It's not really a title though, is it.
It's actually an embarrassment.
DDD pops up after getting beaten by a guy a lot of people have heard of, then utterly demolishes a guy no one has heard of to gain a pleather belt that means nothing in the scheme of things.
Your right, it is baffling.

This may be a daft question but i want to be 100% clear. Will the winner of this fight be the official mandatory to Usyk ? If yes, then surely there will be an increased level of interest in this fight. Even with Bryan’s history and all the shenanigans with the regular belt, the fact the winner will fight for the main belt will surely mean a bid of well over $1M

I don't think so. WBC have a silver belt, won by Joe Joyce from beating DDD. So even if DDD beat Bryan, it would be a tough ask for him to jump over a man who beat him, and took his Silver belt.
That is why this "regular champion" belt is so baffling. It means nothing other than another way for the WBC to collect sanctioning fees, and further confuse the premiere weight class of boxing.
Very poor form by the WBC :shame:

And from the WBC:
No 3 and No 4 heavyweight contenders, Robert Helenius (31-3, 20KOs) and Hughie Fury (26-3, 15KOs), have also been matched in an eliminator with the same July 28 deadline.
So forgive me if I don't understand it either.
Uysk has the championship belt.
Joyce has the silver and beat DDD.
And Bryan has done nothing except beating Stiverne over 11 excruciating rounds of third tier level boxing, and gaining this nothing belt.
:maybe:
Perhaps Lightie or someone else can explain it, but I can't.

Just another example, Washington loses to Lara, but gets a shot for a world title before Lara does.

Oh and Frampton beat Martinez who got a shot at the world title and won one before Frampton did.

Boxing really is bonkers and I’m sure there’s more examples of the above happening.

I have zero clue how big this bid is.. could be 300,000 could be millions I just don't know. . Holy fuk I hope Frank wins it though. I think it could do well in the UK. WBA regular if promoted properly tricks the casuals into thinking it's a real belt. Tank is the best example of doing this. But there have been many others.

This is anotger big ish headline for Frank. He doesn't have many options when it comes to headling a card but this is one of them.

the winner will just have the belt bryan has already done nothing with for years...........the regular belt has been pretty much useless at hw and most other divisions tbh

whatever the wba says about the wba regular champ fighting the top guy, the reality is that it exists mostly so non top talents can hold a belt too. plus the added sanctioning fees for the wba

Just over. Don’t expect it to even reach $2m

Thing is the fight will lose money. It’s not a an easy sell, and like Hearn would say, not much commercial value.

I think Frank will bid. But knowing DK, he’ll bid over the odds, NOT having the full money and then try getting some investors.

Daniel Dubois-Trevor Bryan purse bid process takes place on Monday – Greenwich boxer hoping for home advantage

The WBA have officially ordered purse bids to take place on March 14 for Trevor Bryan’s defence of his world heavyweight title against Daniel Dubois.

Queensberry Promotions will be looking to win the rights to stage the contest and ensure Greenwich’s Dubois has home advantage.

Dubois (17-1, 16 KOs) has had two easy wins over the mismatched Bogdan Dinu and Joe Cusumano since quitting in the 10th round against Joe Joyce in November 2020.

New York’s Bryan (22-0, 15 KOs) earned a split decision victory in the first defence of his belt against Jonathan Guidry (17-2) in January.

Queensberry Promotions promoter Frank W told iFL TV: “Purse bids will be open at 10 o’clock in the morning, Panama time.

“His waiting will be over, Daniel has been very patient. It’s got to have been at least five or six months where he could’ve had a couple of fights in between. We’ll do our best to get the fight on over in the UK.

“It’s been really frustrating for us. We made a massive investment in Daniel, we believe in him and his talent. For him to be inactive for as long as he has been terrible for him and ultra-frustrating for us – because you want to get your guys out there and get them seen. Thankfully we’ve got something to aim for.

“If you win the purse bid you set the date. It’s up to us to win the purse bid and set it for as soon as possible.”

Frank has to be willing to risk losing money here. Got to invest in DDD rather than let his carrer hang in the balance of Don king...

What would purse split be on the purse bids?

I heard it mentioned by frank this week. Bryant is obviously the big side, but i think its only 55-45, might of been 60-40... its a pretty close split. Byrant has held out for a pay day, this should be it.

55-45. Enough of a split for Frank to bid hard and get this on over here.

I think this will go for $2-$3m. It’s also one Frank won’t want to lose given how King does business. If King wins, there may be visa issues as Dubois isn’t allowed in the US at the moment due to not having the covid vaccination. That was the reason he didn’t fight on the Jake Paul show at the end of the year and I don’t think the rules have changed.

If King wins the bid, I can see him announcing the date and then the opponent changing to a random a few weeks before the fight date.

If King wins it’ll be back on the magical merry go round. Frank either wins this or the fight doesn’t happen in my opinion. Dubois has his limitations but he’ll win this easy and DK will be fully aware of that

I’d be aghast if there’s a big bid on this.

Winning bid of $1.1 million or so I reckon. Given the minimum bid is 1 million.

King originally bid $2m for Bryan/Charr. It didn’t happen so they re-did the bids and King won it for just over $1m.

Given Frank will almost certainly be going for it I can see it going for over $2m.

It will be a real mess if King wins so it may be in Frank’s interest to bid more on it and try and get a bit of cash from Showtime for it to be shown on there too.

Bryan is NOt a champion of anything at all, I don't care what doors it opens or how much it may increase the money potential

He is merely a borderline top 50 , just :brick:

While that's all true, it does open doors and in t does increase money. I hate the wba reg because it's a fraud, but even I have to admit it does some good work sometimes.

Wood vs Conlan, tank vs Gamboa, tank vs Barros... Ect. These are fights that become commercially viable due to the wba reg. So I hope DDD wins it and uses it to find some fights.
