Yeah that was great entertainment. Ortiz showed he can take it as well as dish it out. Creditto Kaviliauskas for his contribution too.

Ortiz brilliant, showed a bit of everything, got rocked by an uppercut in the 2nd but survived and dropped Kavaliauskas in the following round with a textbook 1/2/1, after than Ortiz boxed away beautifully behind an excellent jab, took the play away from Kavaliauskas who was still dangerous and couldn't be slept on

Ortiz punch perfect in the 8th put Kavaliauskas down with a jab to the body then again with a left hook, put him down a third time and you knew the writing was on the wall , Kavaliauskas down a fourth and final time by another left, Ortiz surely a cert to become World champ

Woke up at 3:30 am and had to watch it again. Kava deserves another good payday down the line if he sticks around. Quality operator just below top shelf.

VOrtiz v anyone. I don’t think Thurman is going anywhere near this kid at this point. VOrtiz SHOULD get the Pac v Ugas winner. That won’t happen either.

VOrtiz is ready to test TCraw or Spence. Spence (obviously) has more cracks. I am a big fan of both but I would not bet confidently against VOrtiz.

I think so? Lol @ Thurman saying he didn't know who Boots was. Boots may need to work a little on defense, but he looks like the real deal. Maybe PBC is waiting for Spence to move up before they unveil their new 147 champ.

Very good to watch

A good fight. Two highly skilled operators gave it all. Kavaliauskas created some real problems for Ortiz, but Ortiz was able to stay composed and do the job. Kaval was very tough, but Ortiz broke him down, the stoppage was unavoidable.

Tough night for the Baltics with Bolotniks and Kavaliauskas getting stopped. Both gave a good showing though.

I am still wondering if Gutierrez has an injured right shoulder, arm, or wrist the way he kept throwing it up into the air. At first I suspected that he was egging on the crowd but by the end it seemed like something might be tweaked.

He threw nowhere near enough rights in the fight. Boxed a winning but very boring style v a considerably smaller man.

i was feeling bad for Kavaliauskas by the end. Vergil rears like a viper when he's hurt. Disciplined after getting hurt, broke down his man and finished it. love watching this guy

To be fair, Egidijus Kavaliauskas wasn't considered a top-ten welterweight prior to the Vergil Ortiz Jr. bout, probably because the Lithuanian hasn’t beaten anyone noteworthy at 147lbs.

And for the record, I’m not a “hater”, because Kavaliauskas is a very good victory to boast on the resume of any young 23-year-old prospect that’s only fought six times at welterweight. He admittedly looked good this weekend.

That said, Ortiz Jr. might be a very exciting prospect and have enormous potential to claim ownership of one of the main titles at welterweight within the next three years or so, but we need to contain our excitement, because he hasn’t beaten any of the top dogs at 147lbs yet.

The fact that Vergil Ortiz Jr. is signed with Golden Boy Promotions is very problematic.

None of his fellow stablemates are credible 147lb-ers that’ll advance his career.

The only notable welterweight that isn’t a PBC fighter, is Terence Crawford, who has recently expressed his disinterest in fighting Ortiz Jr.

Bud really does have bigger fish to fry, assuming he faces Shawn Porter next and then leaves Top Rank to become a PBC fighter, which people are speculating is a distinct possibility.

A reminder, there have been recent “unofficial” additions to the PBC welterweight stable, with Abdukakhorov signing with Sampson Boxing and Jaron Ennis being a Showtime fighter competing in fight cards predominantly involving Al Haymon’s guys.

And of course, we all know that Oscar De La Hoya is aligned with DAZN and is also reluctant to work with Al Haymon and the Fox/Showtime networks.

So at this point in time, we might have to tolerate seeing Vergil Ortiz Jr. matched against gatekeepers, blown-up decent 140lb-ers or “has-been” welterweights for the foreseeable future, because his options are limited.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. has been with Golden Boy for more than five years and he’ll surely be faced with a tough legacy-defining decision to make in the near future.

Does he prefer to remain the biggest “fish” in the GBP’s tiny “pond” of welterweights, or should he try to “swim” in the massive “ocean” of PBC 147lb-ers?

I think Vergil Ortiz Jr. will eventually be given a huge opportunity in the future, with him being offered a long-term deal that’ll have strings attached (i.e. being forced to leave GBP), but it won’t happen any earlier than the tail end of 2022, due to the changing landscape of boxing:

• There are rumblings about Fox ending their deal with the PBC soon, with Al Haymon’s company potentially jumping ship to CBS. I don't think the PBC would be in a position to offer any new major deals until this situation has been sorted out.

• There are also rumours conveyed by reputable journalists of Golden Boy Promotions potentially jumping ship from DAZN to Triller in the near future. GBP will be able to negotiate a better deal with their new home network, if they can protect the value of their most valuable assets, by refraining from orchestrating high-risk bouts for the biggest names in their stable until the contract with Triller has been signed.

• Errol Spence Jr. will probably face the winner of the Pacquiao-Ugas bout.

• Top Rank will be contractually-obliged to allow the Crawford-Porter bout to proceed, with the fight probably going to purse bids.

• Terence Crawford will probably jump ship to the PBC in November (assuming Bud beats Porter).

• Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford will engage in a historic title unification bout during summer/autumn of 2022.

• Regardless the outcome of the Crawford fight, Errol Spence Jr. makes the jump to 154lbs by 2023.

• I think 2023 will be a year of the changing of the guard, whereby the future welterweight rankings won’t remotely resemble today’s ratings, with them being led by the likes of Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. This will be due to the majority of the current top-dogs at 147lbs being in their mid-thirties and considered well past-their-primes in two years time.

Unfortunately though, until all of the issues detailed in the above bullet points have been resolved, I feel that Vergil Ortiz Jr. (through no fault of his own) will almost certainly continue facing underwhelming opposition for the foreseeable future.

That's the case for more or less 99% of boxers..

Algieri? Bundu? Lo Greco? Van Heerden?

Were any of them top 10 at WW?
