Mickey - has Dave been sparring with anyone decent?

My concern for him is that whilst he’s always had a good chin, it’s 4 years since the Price fight and his opponents since then haven’t landed much of note. Wouldn’t surprise me if the punches he could have taken 5 years ago have a much bigger effect now.

the lead up to the price what was quite humorous and over dramatic on forums looking back. people saying the fight shouldnt go ahead out of concern for price's safety; that price is going to be utterly startched again. how allen had transformed himself and even talk of a wba regular fight for him

it was high times for dave back then. now.......well mick says he's better than ever, but the same guy collapsed after price and said he was sick from the punishment in sparring vs usyk. that sounds worringly unhealthy

I saw from instagram that Dave has been sparring Steven Robinson plus a couple of others in the last few weeks.

He does seem happier and fitter than before.
Mav, i’m not sure who his main sparring is. He gets all over every day sparring everyone from amateurs to pros.

That was a wild time. I remember thinking I was 12 months from seeing Dave Allen vs AJ at Wembley… just spark price and povetkin and there you are…

Thanks.

I’ll stay well clear of the betting if he fights Clarke. Even if Dave’s punch out hasn’t reduced, I could see a ref jumping in a bit early.

Dave is generally known for his elite toughness…. But his KO highlight reel is getting pretty special if you just take his top 3…

-that body shot vs brown headlining the O2, one of the best heavyweight body shots I have seen…

- vs nick web that overhand right. One of the best windmills I have ever seen.

- tonight vs fisher the left hook, left hook, body, body, left hook (plus half landed bonus right) is one of the most clinical fight finishing combonation KO I have seen at heavyweight.

Admittedly it’s all been at a certain level. But it’s also all been on the big stage.

When he retires I hope someone goes though and cheerypicks the ultiment highlight reel so that future generations can be tricked into thinking he was our Muhammad Ali…

I mean… if Sanchez can somehow stay top 10…

Dave Allen probably would have beat everyone Sanchez has in the last 3 and a half years… also probably would have given kabayal as tough a fight as Sanchez did…. Haha.

But look obviously Dave not in the top 15… I just wanted to use my opportunity to point out how stupid Sanchez being in our top 10 is on yet another thread…

I've always liked Allen.

Solid chin, good punchers, always in an entertaining fight. I always think he had the potential to go further than he did. Hope he can capitalise on taking Fisher's 0 to get a nice payday against someone decent.

I certainly think he can beat Joe Joyce. That would be a good fight imo. All Allen has to do is land one.

Dave's always said that Joe Joyce is a bad matchup for him. Joyce, however, is seriously on the slide, so maybe he'd see it differently now.

Adeleye v TKv apparently might not happen despite the purse bid having taken place.

Is the British title a good target for Dave Allen next?

It’s it too less money for either to take.

I don't think there is a serious title projectory for Dave Allen? He was given one and he blew it eight years ago by not training.

He could have beaten Lenroy Thomas out of sight, got the Commonwealth title and built it up from there but he just couldn't be arsed which he admitted to at the time and then he got badly outboxed and stopped by David Price - he has his level which is now British gatekeeper and he was brought in for that against Fisher which he wasn't meant to win. Probably the only reason this rematch happened is because Fisher badly wanted it and thought he could improve and what happened happened.

I suppose we could see Allen fight for the British title, that would be a good fight but from there? He's 33, he is coming to the end of what has been a hard journey.

Does Fisher need boxing? Maybe not, he has a good education and has irons in the fire and made good money. He could quit and go and do something else but he is still young and a heavyweight, heavyweights get knocked out - part of the job description, he could come back and get a few wins going and fight for the British title in the future. :TU:

Dave knows exactly what he can do - he mentions his level in almost every interview.
It would be nice if he could have a little run and a few paydays, but he may well not want it.
Shame for us fans, but great for him I guess.

Doncaster Dome is his local 'arena' I'm sure Stefy Bull does shows there. Given the right opponent that show would sell out, it holds around 3000.

Dave flirts around the subject but he is too heavy and he knows it. I wish he could motivate himself to get down to and then stay within the 110-115kg bracket (I also think a bracket rather than a set figure is better for somebody as big and hungry as him). That's well achievable and once there he could still eat plenty.

He has a British title in him but he's going to have to be that bit lighter to do it. He had a good strategy last night and the finish was class but whether he'll admit it or not he was a bit flat footed. Stalking down, closing the gap and backing up Fisher, who was like a kangaroo last night, is one thing but to do the same thing versus Adelaye (which I think he can) won't happen at 19 stone.

I want to see him lift a British title, it would make me cry and the only other time that has happened I have known the lad personally. Something about Dave, his character and background touches my heart.
