caldo2025 wrote: 22 Sep 2021, 04:09Come on EO, please think about his fights since jumping up to challenge the world champions. Do you remember how deadly Callum Smith was supposed to be? This kid was so outmanned that his goal of winning the fight quickly caonverted to just being able to finish it just after 5 rounds with Canelo. To me, this was worse than a KO. When someone stops throwing punches to win and instead resorts to tying up and not putting out the punches requiring them to win due to fears of being countered, that’s worse than KO or Submission.
Callum Smith explained the following to Boxing Social:

“[My arm] is füçkéd, to be honest with you,

“And it was intentional, because I knew from the first round... [Canelo] was aiming for my arm, every right hook he kept throwing [at it], he was going for my arm...

“And then after round four, I told [my corner] my arm is füçkêd,

“He kind of took away my catch left-hook, which is my best shot, which was probably [their plan]

“When he was hitting my arm, it was making my arm drop, rather than being able to return with it. He took [my best] shot away from me.

“And every credit to him, he knew what he was doing.

“After the twelfth round, he just looked [at it] and laughed at the swelling.

“It was just his experience... because he took away my best shot!”

I hope that explains what happened during the Canelo-Smith bout, since it was clear the Mexican was intentionally trying to punch and damage the Brits arm. :TU:

In the same video, as well as discussing the Mexican's arm punching tactics, Callum Smith also claimed that he wasn't particularly impressed with Canelo's power.
If we’re being honest here, let’s just state what really happened with Callum. #1 his corner should have stopped the fight when their fighter stopped trying to win this fight. He took many unnecessary blows after essentially submitting in the last half of this bout. To me, it’s clear that somewhere within those first six rounds, Callum’s goal became taking this fight to the end and to last longer than his brother did. Someone with his wind span and length could easily use those attributes to stay in fight and last. That’s what he did and I lost all respect for his game. To be in a fight like that and to clearly give up on winning in order to say that he lasted 12 rounds with Canelo is sad. Sorry to say it about a boxer but it’s a sad state of mind and is a weak mentality to me. The greats wouldn’t even consider this tactic for a second much less pursue it for those championship rounds.

To me, Canelo’s defeat of Callum Smith was more thorough than Khan’s KO. At least Khan had some moments early and was attempting to win each second. Mark my words, Callum Smith’s career is most likely over after the damage Canelo did to him and I’m mostly referring to the damage upstairs. Once a boxer gets to those thoughts whilst in the biggest fight of their lives, it’s over. Maybe an extended layoff could change a mindset so utterly destroyed and could possibly revitalize a strong willed boxer. But most of the time, these kinds of losses forever change fighters and very few reclaim that edge or spirit to become great.
Great posting chaps :TU:
I didn't know the aftermath of the fight and Smiths comments. Generally I focus on the lead up, and the fight, and move on to the next one.

So Smith wasn't phased by Canelo's power? that's bullsh1t. He was backing off and wary from the opening bell and long before any arm injury was even possible, he never once went out there trying to impose himself on Canelo.

It's not like we had this fight where for 4 or 5 rounds Smith aggressively took it to the champ trying to really wrench his title from him and then- oh no! the tragedy! injury strikes! - and all of a sudden Smith had to go defensive.

he was a scared little kitten throughout that fight and him coming out saying it was just because his arm was fvcked, that is a bullsh1t excuse.

it was the left arm that was fvcked, yeah?

can anyone remember Smith trying real hard to land his right hand, what with the fact that he wasn't scared of Canelo's power like he says?

no? nobody remember all those big right hands Smith tried throwing, as even though his left was fvcked, remember according to him he didn't respect Canelo's power, so he could throw caution to the wind, right? really hang it out there and try and land that right hand. yeah, there's a reason you don't remember that...

there's also a reason Smith got his arm fvked up, it's because every time Canelo came at him throwing a combination or even feinting like me might do, Smith cowered back into that 'I'm so scared of the dude whose power I'm going to pretend not to respect after the fight' guard, and just fcvking rolled himself into a tiny little 6'3 ball of scaredycat, arms plastered to his head like a comfort blanket with his bicep like a perfect stationary target for Canelo to whale away on.

fighters who don't respect the other dude's power don't spend their time cowering against the ropes with their arms like a shroud around themselves.

fighters who don't respect the other dude's power, they let their hands go here and there, maybe

that's some bullsh1t by Smith. He was intimidated as fck by every single thing Canelo did in the ring, including his power. Joe fkin Gallagher probably dripping bullsh1t in his ear, 'hard lines Callum, you were just getting into the fight when your arm went, he never hurt you mate, later rounds would have been yours'

absolute bullsh1t.

I make no comment on his use of PED's, the morality or otherwise of it, i was simply replying to the point Smith made that Canelo's power didn't impress him.

if you want to see the above as some sort of love letter to Canelo from a fanboy, that says more about you than it does about the post itself.

A clear sign that Plant hasn't just come to grovellingly collect a bigger cheque than usual and then quietly disappear.

It's a great tactic to make the priviliged protected one squirm in public.

Prefight banter is banter but Canelo's drug use is something even his camp isn't bothering to deny.

Canelo's camp is probably guessing that everyone already knows.

And they do.

I say yes because I don't know of anyone in the history of boxing who could start off at 139 pounds in his debut, and goes all the way up to 175 pounds--- and not only knocks out the light heavyweight champion but bullies the light heavyweight champion.

Even the greatest boxer of all time Sam Langford who fought from 130 to 200 pounds, was not completely dominating top world class guys every time out. Even he lost from time to time, got bullied in the ring, and got stopped.

Canelo is literally breaking people's bones, etc. He damn near threw Caleb Plant like a rag doll across the podium. If there ever was a more obvious case of someone being on performance enhancing drugs I have never seen it, unless it was bodybuilding or strongman contests where it's expected anyways.

He's guilty 100%

- What's up with all these 6 digit Soviet bots and their pseudo aliases invading boxrec?

Terrible to see our formerly young ingenue Henry sucked into their web. Jimmy McLarnin went from beating HOF fly champ Pancho Villa to the the welter title, a gain of 30+lbs. Sam Langford whooped HOF lightweight champ Joe Gans, and then years later won a share of the heavyweight title against Joe Jeanette in Paris in an epic fight, a gain of 50 lbs.

Drug cheats you say now absent any concrete proof?

Or is it you lot screaming after a bad flush in a slow circling of the drain of life?

Wasn't Canelo turned pro at 15?

He's 31 now we're only talking 2 and a half stone in the difference hardly astonishing transformation! Pretty normal really. He basically started out in fights of note at welterweight too.

I don't see a 36 lb gain of weight in any sport over 16 years going from 15 years old to 31 years old as significant or exceptional, especially not boxing. There's lots of athletes who have doubled or tripled that weight gain. I wonder how much weight Tyson Fury gained from when he was 15 to 31? I wonder how much the guy that posted this gained from 15 to 31? Probably 3 digits. I understand Canelo is hated by a lot of people and he's fun to troll but this has gotten pathetic..
