I feel for kids who decide to go into the same sports as their famous fathers, it very rarely works out for the best and they will always be compared to their dad.

I agree but also the name gives them the chance to make money they wouldn’t otherwise have made. It must be difficult being any famous man’s son in whatever field. Acting, sports, politics, music etc
But Campbell would have difficulty getting on a local pro show if his surname was not Hatton. Instead he’s boxing for what must be a decent purse in front of huge crowds. And him and his dad are not helping themselves with their comments are at best naive and at worst arrogant and ignorant. Hatton Jnr is basically a boxing laughing stock now. Also Hearn is to blame pushing the kid so much. He should feature him low down on the bill and not give him so much publicity.

The casuals would have rather watched Campbell on Saturday than the Marku fight and potentially even the Callum Smith/Okolie fights. It was the only undercard fight my mates were remotely interested in.
It’s up to the promoter to promote him and get him exposure. If his trainer/manager don’t think he’s ready for it then it’s on them. Ultimately they’re the ones that see him everyday and know whether he’ll cope and whether he’s good enough. He clearly isn’t though.

At the end of the day that's showbiz!
The you tubers are on huge money despite their talent because they put bums on seats.
Conor Benn has earned more money than a typical fighter with his record and opponents because again he puts bums on seats.
With Hatton it might well be a short ride but he will get his cut of the money that he and Hearns have generated.
Obv there will be unheard of domestic champs who will earn much less and while it seems unfair unfortunately that's life!

I get it of course. But Campbell could end up being the most ridiculed and disliked British boxer in recent times….. people will be lining up to watch him fall and he’ll be laughed at in the streets. The money he’s getting can’t be worth that. He’ll get stick every time he’s out and about. £50k isn’t worth that

I think you’d be surprised. I’d be amazed if he didn’t get a fairly big signing bonus.

Yeah - I really like the way Jordi Cruyff just went by Jordi and kept it quiet.
It
does work out sometimes - remember when Frank Lampard used to be Frank Lampard JR ?
No one remembers the dad now !

How good was his dad though, were the shoes that Frank Jr stepped into as big as the ones that the likes of Paul Dalglish, Marvis Frazier or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had to step into for instance?

Yes, that Dutch lad called Cruyff was very inconspicuous.

Not that big obviously.
Hard to think of many real legends where the kid is even better. Paolo Maldini is almost one.
Rafa Nadal is nearly there too, but he was only a nephew.

Rafa’s achievements and worldwide sporting respect massively outweigh those of his uncle. Miguel was an extremely good player but isn’t one of the best ever whilst Rafa’s records on paper put him up there. Tied for most grand slams ever in an era with Federer and Djokovic.

I saw “Richard Hatton” win the NABC’s in 1994 at Leicester
We went down to watch James Rooney from Hartlepool Catholic Club fight
They both won but Hatton was the only one to win by stoppage that night across all of the weight classes
THAT WAS IN JAN 1995, HE BEAT ALBERT COATES ON POINTS, NABC B FINALS, THE PREVIOUS YEAR, HE WON THE CLASS A FINALS IN NEWCASTLE, BEATING BOBBY BECK

Ah cheers Eric, it was a while ago now and my memory has obviously deteriorated

….who did James Rooney beat I can’t recall. I remember there was a ringside brawl during one of the bouts that got quite tasty.
I seem to remember Crawford Ashley trying to calm things down.
