He was limping and looking emotional on his big return (I can’t recall the fight night).
I’m guessing he had some kind of accident but massively inflated his injuries… which is more common than you think.
Maybe a twisted knee, slipped disc but probably didn’t even feel much after his regular 20 jaeger bombs.
Guy has gone from likeable to sick bullshitting fornicator.
So sick and bullshiting even though there’s not much to prove otherwise other than people with minimal medical knowledge thinking he’s come back quicker than you’d think?

Are you David?
I have zero medical experience but it’s pretty much a given it’s suspicious to go from “critically injured” with “multiple broken bones” and significant spinal damage to pretty much back to normal within a couple of months.

Of course I’m not. I’m just not quick to judge someone medically because what appears doesn’t fit the norm.
He had fractures in his spine that we have no clue on their severity. Obviously any kind of fracture is bad news but there is a massive range of recovery times depending where and the size of the fractures. A hairline crack is still considered to be a fracture.
He had broken ribs. Returning to work 10 weeks later is possible.
He had an injured knee. The only thing I saw on this was that it tore the skin down to the bone.
We also have no idea he’s back to normal. He’s back working but we don’t know the amount of meds he’s having to take or the amount of rehab he’s had/still having.

He said he had to learn to walk again. That’s a huge statement and it indicates a long road to recovery.
A few months or so is a fairly short time.
I’ve had bad ankle sprains that take longer than that.
I feel I’m a little qualified on this; I race road bikes… or used to… and I’ve had many impact breaks and have seen many as well.
Not one of my many breaks or fractures have healed anywhere as close to this.
“Critically injured”.
He’s bullshitting in my view. He might well be a medical marvel but I’m entitled to my opinion and my opinion is no one recovers from the injuries he sustained in such a short time.

As I said though we don’t know the detail of the injuries he had - we just know the headlines.
He did say he had to learn to walk again. I would have thought that after any kind of spinal surgery that’d be needed. There will be massive variances in the amount of physical therapy needed and the outcomes.
I don’t remember him saying that he was critically injured. I’m sure some of the reports said at the time though as they would for anyone who was an ICU.
I’m not denying his 10 week turnaround isn’t exceptionally quick. I’m just not going to call someone a bullshiter because it’s not what you’d normally expect and got minimal evidence to show otherwise.

I guess being in an ICU and needing spinal surgery (where there always risk) is being critically injured. He’s very lucky he didn’t end up like Christopher Reeve.

Just looked on his Instagram and during the weigh in for one of the fights in Barcelona he’s holding a fighter back in the face off.
Must be on top dollar to afford a surgeon who fixed him so well.
I broke my collarbone and fractured by scapula in lockdown 1 and I still struggle to use that arm now.
I’m 34.

I guess it boils down to the definition of being critically injured, technically he was if he needed urgent medical care and they were concerned about his spine. Whether or not it transpired not to be as serious or bad as it could have been was just fortunate for him.

To use critical condition to describe your own condition is a big statement.
Critical implies that your life is in danger/or that you are likely to have significant life-altering injuries.
Bare in mind he described his condition after his injuries were well known to him and the hospital staff.
My bet is that he had some kind of accident and that he was injured; no where near how he described and that the rumours about his substance abuse have some truth in them.
1 week hospital, 4 weeks rehab baby!

I think it depends how you view it. Being in a critical condition doesn't always mean you will end up in a bad way, you may just be critical at the time you are taken into hospital and I guess if he did have an accident and damaged his back then they would treat it seriously and urgently. Any damage to the spine is potentially quite serious. I remember watching one of those 24 hours in A&E TV shows and some bloke was rushed into the hospital after a crash, they were saying he was in a bad way, he had broken something in his back and they told him he may never walk again and needed to go into surgery. At the end of the show when they show the patient updates he was walking fine.

Yeah, anything is possible with medicine but I just choose to think in this case David is lying, or at best exaggerating.
Not that it matters in life.
6 weeks is one hell of a turnaround for sure, though.

Maybe, who knows, I give the him benefit of the doubt unless something else comes to light. I'm not sure of turnaround times, it will differ from person to person and from seriousness of injury, maybe just not as bad as they initially thought it could be.

At the hospital, the doctors ran him through a battery of scans. There were three fractures in his spine. Several broken ribs. The flesh from his right knee was torn to the bone. He underwent five hours of surgery. Nine screws were inserted into his back. Multiple rods, too. “My back is basically metal,” says Diamante. Cadaver parts were placed on his spine to, hopefully, facilitate healing. When Diamante woke up, he was told the bone penetrating his spine was less than two millimeters away from leaving him paralyzed.
“The spinal surgeon told me he had never seen this type of injury without paralysis,” says Diamante. His voice begins to quiver. “I’m lucky, man. I’m really f---ing lucky.”
This was in sports Illustrated. 6 weeks and he’s absolutely fine? Miracles do happen.
