That’s the only fight of Whyte’s I can remember him pulling out of though. The normal bit of banter is totally fine and fair game, but I’ve seen Eddie on multiple interviews recently putting it out there that Fury might pull out as well as Whyte. Direct quote from Hearn on Whyte “Dillian will be there on Fight night, or maybe he won’t..”
One minute he is saying he’s not involved, than he saying they need him to have a successful event. Then he is he coming out with rubbish suggesting Dillian might not get paid with “check company’s house” specials and demanding his purse goes in escrow etc.
Hearn knows that is not the procedure for this to be done on a purse bid, and I doubt DAZN have done this for Canelo $50m for Bivol.
I like Eddie in general, but those kind of comments are beyond bitter- so fcuk him off from the fight.
Unfortunately Tyson has pulled out of a few fights in the past (3 in can think of so may be more than that) so people will always use that against him. Whyte is trying to piss all of Team Fury off and creating as much doubt and ambiguity as possible. Leaving it late to sign the contract, not coming to the press conference so I get the impression Eddie is playing around with it too. I’ve said before that I don’t think it’s a bad thing for Whyte to do as he’d get hammered in a verbal battle by Tyson.
Eddie’s said he’s not involved from the get go. He’s saying they need him to make it a success to boost his own ego and wind Frank up. It’s not necessary, not particularly endearing but it seems to wind Frank up.
Re: the companies house stuff I actually get that one. Frank’s had history of not paying fighters. Their accounts show £66k of cash at the end of their last year. DAZN wouldn’t have done it for Canelo or anyone but there’s never been an issue of non-payment from them in the past so the risk of non-payment is tiny. Unfortunately whilst the chances of Frank not paying again are remote, given he’s done it the past creates that doubt - particularly for sizeable purse like this. If Top Rank had won the bid instead then I can’t imagine Whyte/Hearn mentioning anything.
Frank’s already saying that he’s going to look for action to be taken against Whyte for not going to the press conference so it wouldn’t surprise me if he withholds something whilst his case is pushed.
Yes, Fury does have a past history of unreliability, but he has been fine since he came back. Obviously there was a Covid pull out of Wilder 3, but that only delayed it by a few months.
Ironically, it’s Whyte who has the recent history of leaving an opponent at the alter in Wallin
Eddie knows that the purses are underwritten by BT & ESPN - they have the money. Hearn is not concerned about Whyte being paid in the slightest - he is doing what he can to cast doubt on the event and cause friction - that’s my issue with him.
I have never heard anything from Fury/Dubois/Yarde/Frampton etc of money issues involving Queensbury.
There will be nothing in Whyte’s contract saying the purse is underwritten by BT or ESPN. The responsibility for it will be Queensbury who will have a side deal with Bob/ESPN and may be underwritten by BT. Just because Queensbury are under-written (which may not actually be the case - I’d be surprised if they’d guaranteed £xm from BT regardless of how the fight does - same as ESPN and that’s why Bob said he lost money on the Crawford PPV), doesn’t mean that Whyte is guaranteed to get his purse.
Like I said it’s highly unlikely that Whyte’s purse won’t be paid but it’s not impossible and there’s also a chance of Whyte being paid late which FW also has a fairly well documented record of doing.
