If Tszyu moves up, the true claim to champion will be vacant until someone unifies all the belts!

I happen to be a huge Gatti fan and am well aware of his strengths and weaknesses. Gatti has indeed re-invented himself but only in as much as he is relying on his boxing talent to win fights rather than toe-to-toe brawling.

Do not think for a second that if push came to shove he would not revert back to type immidietly if he was put under serious pressure. Knowing this makes me worried for him because against someone like Cotto he may get outboxed after Miguel has taken his best shots.

A fight with Witter is an intirely different proposition. Witter's work rate isn't actually that high and he loads up more than any fighter I've seen. In this case I see Gatti landing 5 or 6 to Witter's 1 bomb. But these bombs will land and register on Gatti cuz as we all know he can be easy to hit.

The question is can Gatti take Witters power...? I will stick my neck out and say yes. In which case Gatti wins by late KO or by decision just by volume of punches.

If you are Talking about Cotto/Witter, forget it. Cotto is technically superb and has a great chin which again would be tested with Witter. Eventually Cotto would work out Witter's awkward style and catch him on the way in and probably stop him middle rounds.

No doubt all three fights would be pretty exiting.

So there you have it:

Cotto KO Witter round 6 (after 5 spell binding rounds)
Gatti TKO Witter round 10 or (UD) after coming off the canvass and being hurt
Cotto TKO Gatti round 9 (fight of the year contendor)... :TU:

Yeah whatever mate, just because you're a bloody editor here don't think you can give it the billy big bollocks. I've forgotten more about boxing than you think you know.

My telling you that you you don't know shit about me has nothing to do with me being a editor, it's just fact...like it, or not. If I wasn't an editor I wouldn't have been as nice with you as I was! And by the way, you couldn't touch what I know about British boxing history, much less the whole spectrum of boxing...again, nothing to do with being an editor...just fact!

I don't want to get involved here, but I had to laugh at the "Billy Big Bollocks" phrase.

Maybe Barry Big Bollocks.

Ok here's a test for ya :D

Which 80's/90's Brit boxers went by these nicknames:

The Gifted One
Boom Boom
The raggamuffin man
The Wapping assassin
The Merthyr Matchstick
Hoko
The Viking.

The Viking, Steve Foster Sr?
Merthyr Matchstick - Johnny Owen

Wasn't Alan Minter known as 'Boom Boom'?

You know, you're right, but I cannot remember anyone at the time ever using his nickname. Strange that I knew all the more obscure ones, but not Minter...

I like that stu

>>>>Me, a pompous tit<<<<

Oh my, you really told me there James...jeez....can't you come up with anything better than that about a Yank. You know the difference of being an editor, I don't just rant my opinion and run my mouth, like some, although I do just that, but I also contribute a lot to the site and have been doing so since it started, but if you like, I'll gladly ask John to make it so that people won't know that I'm an editor...then what's your whine going to be?

Posted: 23 Feb 2005, 11:03
by jamesmcdonnell
My whine will be that you're a pompous tit.

After all, you're the one who told me I know 'nothing about boxing' despite knowing nothing about me whatsoever. The fact I have almost 6000 posts here might have given you an inkling that I take more than a passing interest in the sport.....

Like I said in my very first response to you, learn to read! I never said that you didn't know anything about boxing, I said that you knew nothing about my views...go back and read it again num-nuts!

by jamesmcdonnell
Actually you did, do I have to quote it? I think you'll find you said I knew nothing about you, and nothing about boxing full stop, and how I couldn't hope to touch your incredible knowledge.....

Anyway, enough of this storm in a teacup, let's let bygones be bygones, I did tell you to grow up after all. :TU:

Yes, you do need to quote me! This is exactly what I said...you asked what did I assume that you knew nothing about...my response:

>>>>Just about my views of sanctioning bodies and how rankings are merited! Nothing about boxing in general!<<<<

As you can see, I said nothing about you not knowing anything about boxing!

Posted: 23 Feb 2005, 11:18
by jamesmcdonnell
Ahh right, depending on how you read that, it can look like it means,

1 Nothing about my views...
2 (and) nothing about boxing in general.

My mistake.

I prostrate myself in humblest apology...

That's right, plus James got the other ones. He had the nickname early in his career, when he liked to wade in for a punch up. But he got cut a bit too often though, and switched to the more conservative boxing style that eventualy won him the world title.
Reverted back to the old style when he met Hagler though, and paid the price.

by jamesmcdonnell
I watched that fight again last night, Minter did try to box, but he just wasn't good enough. Hagler was on fire that night.

I watched 'The best of Marvin Hagler last night,' to remind myself what he was like. A more dominant middleweight champion it would be hard to find, he didn't just beat his opponents, he crushed them. Against Duran, he showed a surprising level of respect, but he did what he had to do to win, and in truth the fight wasn't as close as the scorecards suggested. Duran was no way ahead going into that 13th round.

Hagler was a masterful boxer, people forget that, he just chose to bludgeon his opponents because he was wary of getting skanked out of a decision against Antefuermo. Hagler wasn't one of the chosen few for the Don king rigged Middleweight tournament, and was on the outside looking in for most of his career, so he was damned sure nobody was going to get the chance to steal his belt.

He should have refused point blank to fight Leonard over 12, over 15 he would have done him.

Ukrainian jr welter Andreas Kotelnik, signed to Universum, have accepted a nomination as official challenger for EBU champ Junior Witter. Deadline for purse offers or agreement is March 23 at noon.

I have a feeling Witter might relinquish the EBU belt as he's likely to be based in the US now.
