These guys kept healthy and ended up making ridiculous money as well as becoming absolute legends of British boxing.
Sure the pair of them could have taken different fights and paths at different times, but that can be said for most.

Joe’s lawyer said ‘Mr Warren had taken advantage of him for a number of years’ when they went to court and Warren was ordered to pay Joe £1.8m (rather than do that he just folded Sports Network) so Joe must have had some regrets with how he was promoted.garethhop wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 08:55He had no real regrets. I just wish we’d seen him fight the other top fighters around at the time when he was in late 20s. The WBC belt had some average champions in the years Calzaghe was WBO champ so not sure why they didn’t get a unification sorted within 3-4 years rather than 9.
Re: Eddie Hearn is a dangerous individual
Yep, I agree on that point about the financial splits! But Joe himself said his only real regrets were not fighting Eubank, Benn and Collins at their peaks. But he was fine with his career.maverick23 wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 09:59Joe’s lawyer said ‘Mr Warren had taken advantage of him for a number of years’ when they went to court and Warren was ordered to pay Joe £1.8m (rather than do that he just folded Sports Network) so Joe must have had some regrets with how he was promoted.garethhop wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 08:55He had no real regrets. I’m sure he was fine with his career. Retired healthy, with money, undefeated, pretty much undisputed at super middle and ring magazine champ at light heavy, and the last 2 years of his career were great and he was must see.garethhop wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 10:55Yep, I agree on that point about the financial splits! I just think, given his ability, he could have done more and that he had several years where he was fighting poor opponents. I’d have loved to see him fight a younger Hopkins and both Taylor and Pavlik when they were looking to move up would have been great fights. Plus go after the other belts earlier as I said before.

I mean as a fan. Hearn has been far better for the sport in terms of giving us better match ups.garethhop wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 08:37 Can't believe anyone in hindsight would suggest Joe or Ricky were poorly promoted.

It was a lucky accident Calzaghe kept going as long as he did. Eubank was past his peak by 30, and Benn maybe a fraction later around 31. That would have only got Joe to Tucker Pudwill!maverick23 wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 08:50I think Calzaghe may well have been the best British fighter in my lifetime but he had 9 years where he didn’t have many meaningful fights. Drugs are bad, and unsafe. So is weight cutting. But let’s not pretend promoters are in the safety business.
Look At early DDDs resume, Yards, Wilders, AJs ect ect ect… between just them about 100 opponents that go picked and put in the ring with the purpose and expectation of getting knocked the fornicate out, or bare minimum beat the fornicate up… and not for millions, for a few grand and a pat on the back…
Promoters should not have the ability to make any real safety decisions, there jobs to gouge for max cash, It should be someone elses job to stop them… someone in the boards/gov body’s.
It’s still slimey and puts boxing in a bad light. But unless he is directly breaking rules, moral decisions aren’t really eds responsibility.

Good post and correct ,,, Mangers /trainers , should take more responsibility and save the fighter from themselves ,, You probably would of noticed by now my pet hates of fighters being over matched , and quite often its not for the money ,, Give them a tv camera to put there face on along with the ability to hob nob with the main attractions and some trainers would put there mother in with Mike Tysongregregegg wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 21:07 Drugs are bad, and unsafe. Yea I hate it, I think the board shouldent sanction fights once there more than 10-1. And I don’t think any 8 round plus fights should be sanctioned if there more than about 7-1… (not exact numbers but just approximately.coneye wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 23:22Good post and correct ,,, Mangers /trainers , should take more responsibility and save the fighter from themselves ,, You probably would of noticed by now my pet hates of fighters being over matched , and quite often its not for the money ,, Give them a tv camera to put there face on along with the ability to hob nob with the main attractions and some trainers would put there mother in with Mike Tysongregregegg wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 21:07 Drugs are bad, and unsafe. Ahmet Ohner ringing the bell, Don King kicking a man to death, Canelo and Valdez blind eyes, the whole dangerous catchweight nonsense in the first place...
But, generally - point taken. He HAS definitely tarnished the image of Boxing, MatchRoom and himself over this.
Jail though ?
Re: Eddie Hearn is a dangerous individual
He is the best payer due to maximising fighters income by robbing the British public, those who built his fighters, of attending big shows which are sold to the Arabs, and then charging us an ever increasing premium to watch a PPV. The boxes also benefit from the ticket scalping.
I am not particularly knocking Eddie for the good work that he has done, but it is a fact that since he became the main man in the majority, Boxing has become more expensive, and more elitist to watch the best fights live.
Us fans are the only losers here. Every fecker else is loaded, off the back of us!

Most fights can be either found live online somehow " allegedly " or appear very soon on youtube for free .

Dubois being lined up to fight Lerena who I believe popped for the same thing as Benn
C'mon Frank say it isn't so, Eubank Jr has played this all brilliantly, Warren surely won't fumble the ball here, chance to take the moral high ground

Calzaghe was the one who avoided the fights. He had an excuse that he was afriad of flying. That didn't seem to bother him when he flew over to fight Mario Veit. He wanted easy fights and easy money.maverick23 wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 09:59Joe’s lawyer said ‘Mr Warren had taken advantage of him for a number of years’ when they went to court and Warren was ordered to pay Joe £1.8m (rather than do that he just folded Sports Network) so Joe must have had some regrets with how he was promoted.garethhop wrote: ↑11 Oct 2022, 08:55He had no real regrets. He made no effort to stop it. Several big acts have done it successfully. I can't see a businessman with an ego like Peddie's allowing people to make £100's in an instant on his shows. I tried, and did a few times, but it was hard work.maverick23 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2022, 07:42Why do you think he was involved? He's being called a coward on Talksports new YouTube boxing show with Simon Jordan and Spencer "if I'm totally honest" Oliver. Good show by the way.

Because he made no effort to stop doesn’t mean he’s guilty though. He was probably doing 20 shows in the U.K. a year boxing wise so i’d imagine it’s not a big priority for him. Compared to the music labels who’s teams have several hundreds of shows a year across their different artists. I can understand why some of them have actively tried to sort it.mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2022, 08:26He made no effort to stop it. Several big acts have done it successfully. Eddie had a period where the many of his shows sold out so there was consistently a fairly large resale market. FW in comparison was struggling to get close to selling out the bulk of his shows so there wasn’t much going on resale. He does a big Fury fight against Whyte and the resale kicks off. Just like it did with Khan/Brook. Are they doing it too? Almost certainly not.
