Terry is great
Got to agree. Although I'd say he "can be great". He has far too many biases to be great...
I started listening to it recently. It’s good but I’ve no idea who he is. Is he an amateur coach?
Yes, at Fitzroy Lodge. Seems to know a lot of London pros. He's biased towards black fighters.

Deserter wrote: 19 Feb 2024, 12:13 With the demise of Boxing Life Stories (or hopefully just a hiatus), i've started branching out a bit. Was already a fairly regular listener to the Boxing News podcast, but my favourite right now is the George Groves Boxing Club - only started listening in the last few weeks and have to say I think it's brilliant. George and Declan Taylor are great as co-hosts, with a really strong rapport and the right balance of insights and banter. The last episode with John Ryder was a perfect example of that imo.

What is everyone else listening to, any other recommendations?
BTR Boxing podcast has had a bit of a makeover recently. Used to be quite safe in their opinions, but they seem more free-flowing and unafraid to offend now. One's a bit mouthy but it has been entertaining recently.

Fight disciples and BN are also regular listening

BTR are really underrated, like most they have a weekly preview and reaction show but its their series based content that sets them apart they do The Darker Side Of Boxing, their version of Legendary Nights and Career Profiles...worth checking out for sure.

Unfortunatley that seems to be the culture, lots of arse kissing and cosying up to fighters and promoters for access to shows. A lot of the young lads that get involved are all trying to be the next Kugan and dont get me started on the the influx of female "presenters" using their sexuality but with little to no knowledge of the sport.

Bang on. These fighters want a*se sniffers interviewing them rather than getting real questions. Same with the promotors. It's all about propaganda these days.

The demise of genuine media due to the Internet has meant there is little holding to account of anyone, let alone just in boxing.

It's a gift for wrong uns to flourish while we're all doom scrolling absolute dross.

Does anyone know if the George Groves Boxing Club podcast is ever coming back? No new pods for a couple of months. I was expecting them to come back this week with the AJ v Dubois fight at the weekend.

Been asking the same question myself. Weird how it's just disappeared with no comms around it - nothing on his insta about it either way.

Only 4 I listen to/watch now are:

Porky - honest and calls out all the bullshit which is 95% of them
Dave Allen - not a whinger and shares insight he has as well as doing some decent interviews with people like Enzo etc
Maxi Hughes - really interesting
Jazza Dickens - like Maxi's

All the rest are lesser. I like Boxing Now and Boxing King Media but they don't ask the questions as they need the access. I get it.

And then all the others are just inhouse PR masquerading as journalism.

Bunce is being nauseating about the Saudis, its embarrassing. He also prattled on about how AJ has always been the perfect ambassador for British boxing. Zero mention of the hissy fits against usyk and throwing the belts out of the ring. Hes is overdrive with this.

I quite like how Bunce doesn't bother to dress up for the events, he looks like a hobo in his interviews there. I've ordered his new book, he said he makes 37p per copy! Definitely more a labour of love than money making.

Enjoy Alex Steedman in full toys out of the pram mode on his opening bell pod this week :yay: :yay:

Half way through an otherwise normal show he gets on his high horse and after half heartedly trotting out his usual insincere “oh yeah I understand about the high cost of living “ line he proceeds to lambast his audience for not lining his pockets as thanks for him waffling on for barely an hour once a week. In full tantrum mode by now he then threatens us with maybe only one or two more shows unless we stop “taking the piss” by listening to his show for free. :yay: :yay:

Never mind Alex, if the listeners fail to respond to your pleas by signing up to the Patreon version you can always subsidise your no doubt pretty hefty media income by writing a sequel to “How to Win Friends and Influence People”

Steam coming out of his ears by this point he finishes his gigantic hissy fit by declaring “I AM RUNNING OUT OF PATIENCE”

:yay: :yay: :yay:

And then in his very next sentence he talks about hoping to holiday in Sydney next year if he can “possibly get the wonga together”.

You could not make it up

Not our fault Christie binned BN to work for some website, thus ending Steedman's pod income. It appears both sadly over rated their own worth on the open market.
As entertaining and knowledgeable as they are, i'm not going to pay extra to listen to them, or anyone else. Sorry if it's deemed 'taking the piss' to listen to two blokes gassing when they offered it for free!

That trumpet is pathetic, isn't it. Sounds like it's being played by a 5 year old.

The only good boxing podcast was Boxing Life Stories by Tris Dixon. The rest are dirt.

I think the main, though not entirely, the difference is prior to the internet, boxing writers still had a solid journalistic knowledge but also knew how to play the game. There were fewer media outlets so promoters and boxers were grateful for any type of publicity. It was an old school type working arrangement, both sides played the game and tolerated each other. Then the internet came along and any kid with a computer in their bedroom suddenly became a boxing writer and developed their own website in return for ringside accreditation. That was the first nail in the proverbial boxing writer coffin. Then YouTube was born and again untrained wannabe boxing journalists appeared asking all sorts of stupid questions. It was not long before promoters/boxers started their own channels, formed purely for their own PR outlets. And this is where we are today in my opinion. There are still some quality boxing writers around but they are few and far between. As I said, just my opinion

The level of professionalism and knowledge on you tube is poor.

This is compounded by promoters using some of the channels as promotional mouthpieces
