It would be great if your subscription covered everything. Right now there are way too many PPVs. Putting the price up is one thing, and I get that, but making customers pay again for all these minor championship fights sucks. It's the classic double whammy.

I haven’t had an issue with the Saudi shows being PPV. I’ve taken issue with big US fights being PPV in the U.K.. I’m not watching them live and I’m also not paying £20 to watch them when I wake up so end up just trying to find them on YouTube.

I’d imagine they’d sell really poorly over here too.

It goes both ways. I think it’s stupid to put stuff like AJ/Dubois or the 5on5 on PPV in the US.

I also agree with the point that DAZN will struggle to create stars. I can’t see that changing until they’re able to get bigger sports on DAZN so can cross promote.

They’ve been bank rolled by the Saudis but the Saudis will want some of the event price to be covered. The shows have been good enough for PPV so far in the U.K. in my opinion. Given they’re involved with several broadcasters they can’t really have one network have it included as part of their subscription whilst TNT/Sky charge a PPV.

I don’t fully get the Saudi’s MO. Obviously Turki loves boxing and they want to push Saudi as much as possible so I don’t quite get why they go PPV worldwide. They’re never going to sell many PPVs in the US for Saudi shows given the time difference and lack of US stars on the show so, to me, they’d be better off putting it free to air there.

Be interesting to see what direction TNT goes if Warren jumps ship. Maybe Wassermen i cant see channel 5 paying mega money and would get more fight dates, Shame MTK and Hennessy arent promoting anymore. Mayne Boxxer will lose their sky deal and go to TNT who knows

It’s going to be an interesting 12 months. Turki is clearly involved with DAZN now in some form.

ESPN’s deals with UFC and Top Rank are up for renewal. Boxxer’s deal with Sky Sports is and so is Frank’s with TNT.

Meanwhile PBC have had 3 shows in the first 7 months this year so it makes me think Amazon are no longer interested. Netflix are in the market now for live sport with Paul/Tyson and have also done a deal with WWE for their content.

My concern if DAZN does become the home for more promoters is how they build stars and grow the sport.

That's a good comparison! I do feel a bit lost on there sometimes (possibly an age thing) but there's no doubting the traffic compared to forums like this one.

I have a feeling this new bonhomie, driven by Saudi money, is going to damage boxing in the long term.

Things might look great for a while - maybe even 2-3 years - but at some point the Saudi agenda is likely going to change.

In the meantime, our two leading promoters and no doubt our leading fighters, will have (understandably) been focussing their efforts on earning the petrodollars.

Somehow, unthinkably, they are all about to land up with the same broadcaster, who has no track record of building UK talent.

Hopefully some of that money will be diverted to grass roots boxing and Sky or a terrestrial (or more established) broadcaster continues to support lower profile fights, so all won’t be lost if the plug is pulled.

I could be wrong and boxing could be reorganised into a new super sport, but history is a better guide than expectation.
