That’s a bit unfair. The bud fight is irrelevant, Kell was shot by then
ahead on the cards too :OhYes:

ah yes, maybe the guy who pissed through british scene, battered euro level fighters, beat a top 5 fighter for a world title was just 'maybe' above british level. quite the tough one to determine

I disagree. I think his team let him down with the GGG fight. He could have beaten Spence. Frustrated at stupid IBF mandatories and Khan ducking him, they just thought "Fukk it" and threw him in. Ingle as complicit as anyone. I've heard it said loads of times to overmatched kids, just have a go and we will throw the towel in when it gets too much. To be fair, he did have a go.
Naaw , Nope , no way , You don't go from the fights he had to beating Spence , its two different leagues , the GGG fight WELL THAT WAS A NEVER GONNA WIN SITUATION BUT MADE HIM A MILLIONAIRE the way to go now for quite a lot of boxers is simply build up the record put yourself out there and cash out on a couple of lossess , He done it better than most . Its what they played for and its what they got ,

There were other good fights besides Khan he could of chased to grab a legacy , but he did'nt , In hindsight , he was lucky he had a good record and the dodged fighters like GGG were there to pay him good money to grab his scalp ,All in all well managed , he ended up rich , not a lot do that
What fights could he have chased?
With the support of the British fans behind him which he did have , a promoter like Hearn , he could of chased any fight in the world , , he chose to go up a weight and get battered for money , nothing wrong with that i may add , it created life changing money for him , which is what profesional boxing is all about , after all he would be sparring bigger guys than himself ,

Anyway , these topics are silly , How can anyone say Brooks record is pathetic and be serious , , OK his resume could have been better if he fought a few more bigger names , But pathetic thats silly , the guy was world champ , head lined big shows , fought a couple of best in the world fighters , and retired a multi millionaire .

Much the same has Tyson Fury , did he over or under achieve , Christ i'd say anyone who can retire with all the belts Tysons got and 100-150 million in the bank has ACHIEVED

I would have loved to see a pre-GGG Brook fight Spence.

Like some have said, this is just silly now.

His resume lacks depth but he was pure quality.

British level, please watch how he won that title.

Euro level, please see how he pummeled dangerous lads like Rabchenko or senchenko.

Never forget his world class domestic rival avoided him like the plague until he absolutely had to fight him.

Biggest miss was Bradley and Alexander. He beats them both for me and his record would have been hugely enhanced.

Wasn’t this what the OP saying?

He didn’t say Brook wasn’t quality. He said his record/resume was ‘pathetic’

Yeah, the OP did. I commented in kind at the time.

Revisited the topic to find some jokers questioning whether he was much above british level, hence my 2nd comment.

THEBUTCH wrote: 30 Dec 2024, 13:49 Brook was in the fight against Spence for sure, and he gave Errol a good run for his money.

The loss, however, was very conclusive. Brook pushed himself as hard as he could but Spence was superior.

We really don't require guessing games...the fight is there for everyone to see and ultimately Kell couldn't handle the heat. He showed plenty of guts in the fight against someone who went on to become the 2nd best Welterweight in the division.
Pre GGG Brook would beat Spence.
A devastating and painful loss to GGG added with bulking up for the fight certainly cost him the win. The weight cut for the Spence fight was too much added with sickness in training camp Brook was a shell of a man because of GGG fight
That’s just an opinion.

He was obviously waaay above Brit level ffs - and he may well have beaten Spence w/o the GGG debacle.
Then he woulda been clear No.1 in the world for at least a year. He was probably that after Porter anyway.

His resume of wins isn't as good as it should be perhaps, but "pathetic" is just ragebait. :shame:

The Golovkin fight was crazy. Taking the fight was a good move. But the tactics could not have been more wrong. I'll never understand why Kell stood and traded. It was as if the team thought have a go and throw the towel in as soon as things get bad.

He had no choice really. Golovkin was bang in his prime & brilliant at cutting off the ring. He had to try & gain his respect. Also his eye was damaged in the very first round. He had to go for a KO as he knew he couldn’t go for 12 rounds with that injury.

for context Kell Brook wasnt on my radar during his time and the fights I did see vs GGG / Spence and Crawford he was the B side and well beaten.

Apologies Steve. As a conscience poster and part of the BoxRec brethren, I/we need to look out for each other, so when someone misses something, we are duty bound to correct them on certain things. With this in mind, I would like to inform you that Kell Brook beat a prime Shaun Porter, which you must have missed. That win took Kell into the top 2/3 Welterweights in the world at that time. Obviously this is world level and definitely not 'maybe above British level'.

Please don't take offence, we all miss results now and then. :TU:
