This is a good listen, he's right about the WWE. I went to Wrestlemania a few years back, paid £5k to sit 3rd row ringside, 5 nights 5* hotel plus all the other shows and meet and greets with loads of wrestlers included.
Now you're paying £5k for the nose bleeds with everything else on top. Be interesting what they start charging for DAZN etc if they think they've got a monopoly

Turki and the Saudi Sports Commission has invested in DAZN. It's not a controlling share, but there has to he logic in the investment - just like buying The Ring Magazine which seemed an odd thing at first, now it makes good sense because Saudi have a belt and recognized rankings.

They’ve invested but it’s a drop in ocean for the Saudis. I’d be amazed if they went with DAZN as their main broadcaster in the US.

TKO have relationships with ESPN/Disney, Netflix, Peacock/NBC, ABC, A&E and CW and several others in the US. They can also leverage boxing with their other rights too.

DAZN is decent for fight fans and has made a mark in other countries but for the U.K. and US it still isn’t well known as they have been able to add enough other rights packages for it to make its mark.

Turki genuinely seems to want what’s best for boxing. That will be to get the sport in front of as many people as possible so I can’t see it being DAZN in the US. I’d imagine it’ll be ESPN (replacing Top Rank), Netflix and another US linear network. I also think the ESPN and other non Netflix shows will then be on DAZN around the rest of the world.

Let’s see though. Interesting times ahead.

I get the feeling this really hits Top Rank. They’re leaving ESPN and did a poor job with their deal. $90m a year and they haven’t driven ratings or put enough big fights and may struggle to get as much interest from other networks as they thought they might. There’s also a lawsuit ongoing that got some press and there’s talk they’re being investigated by the FBI due to their deals with MTK.

Bob was originally saying he wanted to work with several networks. Many of those may now be blocked off.

They won’t be able to replicate the UFC model in the next 10+ years as the disparity in pay is far too much.

Currently top non PPV boxers in the US are often paid far more than their commercial value I.E, amount of tickets they sell and ad revenue when they’re on tv. That’s partly why so many networks have moved away from boxing because their return isn’t as good as other sports/shows.

There could be a scenario though where Turki pays TKO a fee or % for doing it all (Shapiro mentioned a fixed fee for running it) and then gets the best deals from the networks and can pay the fighters overinflated amounts from the start. TKO are happy as they get a boost to the profits and a growing brand, the networks get a structure that will be better value for money and will hopefully grow an audience, fighters still get decent purses and Turki gets himself more fights and can potentially change the sport long term.

I went to Wrestlemania 32 in 2016 in Dallas, it was great , not just the show but all the other stuff but now it's been priced so stupidly a similar trip now would be unaffordable. For me it was 10/10 and worth every penny

WrestleMania packages are shocking now.

But people will still pay.

Some get the full week, smack down, HOF, raw after WM.

They have small events in during the week too

Taxed, fees etc , they gonna get screwed

Doubt its gonna fail , because i doubt it will even take off , Start with i'm pessemistic that the way to get rid of 4 champions is to bring in belt number 5, , Then what boxer is gonna sign up for a 2 year contract getting say 20 grand a fight , what get 4 fights in 2 years , 80 grand , less manager , less trainer , less gym fees , less expenses , all in the hope that he cracks there top 5 and makes 200 grand for 2 years , having the same fights . .

We all know its only a few who make the big money , but they look like they want to limit that too , so good luck with them getting Canelo , Usyk , Bivol , and others to take that money , and why would any good manager lock there fighter into being world champ for a pittance . Why would any really good up coming star agree to these contracts knowing after a lifetime of hard work the pot is not gonna be at the end of the rainbow ,

And to be succesful ANY NEW BELT needs the names the names want the money , and the new names are not gonna work for less ,

Naaw , its not gonna work You will still have Eddie paying big dollars for a wbc defence , Frank has well , and Tut Tut and Dana paying less , but claiming there new belt is the prestigous one .

I don't know, but my opinion is the women's won't get near this pay scale

Women are paid base on a par with men in UFC. It's fairly corporate, don't see why their boxing set-up would be different. Bonuses and uplifts will work case by case based on popularity and performance.
