It's a comeback fight following his losses and injuries. They can sell it as a gold medallist against a gold medalist. Not a big fight but they're probably angling for a bigger fight off the back of it.
What extra leverage for bigger fights would Joshua get from beating Yoka?
None. He just needs a win for confidence and so he enters the next fight on the back of a win, not a loss. Realistically, he can still pick any opponent not named Usyk (and fury it seems).
I'm pretty sure he doesn't have more money than he could ever spend. That's way above his league. 100 million doesn't come close to that.
We're obviously on different stratospheres.
I hope he retires healthily, with all his faculties intact.
Obviously will need sparring and that can be pretty wearing.
How the hell does anyone spend a hundred million ( or whatever he has)? It's crazy, but indicative of modern times.
Basically, if you can afford a small superyacht, you get resentful that you can't get a bigger one. That's not modern times, it has always been the case.
Not always, there are people out there who are happy with their lot.

Of course, but often high level sportsmen are the opposite

It has always been the case that most people are like that. There are of course always some exceptions.
There are very few who would turn down an opportunity to do their normal job for a lot more money than normal, whether they are happy with their lot or not. Saying no to that is a daft decision unless you have some additional reason like something else you really want to be doing instead.

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul are finalizing a deal for a heavyweight fight on Netflix in December in Miami, sources tell The Ring’s Mike Coppinger.

I'll believe it when I see it.
This must be the 8 rounder Eddie was reluctant to talk about. Whoever sanctions the #76 cruiserweight in the world against a proven heavyweight contender should be sectioned.

Is AJ doesn’t take him out on a round then he’s a sell out.
He had no issue taking out Ngannou early. Didn’t carry him. Made a statement.

If the statement was that he was back then it proved false.
Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul are finalizing a deal that will see the pair compete in a heavyweight fight in December, sources tell The Ring.
Paul was due to fight Gervonta Davis on November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, live on Netflix, but Davis was removed from the bout after domestic violence allegations were made against the lightweight champion.
Paul sought a new opponent and, as revealed by The Ring, Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford were sounded out.
Instead, former two-time unified heavyweight champion Joshua looks to have taken Davis' place, with the fight set to be staged in Miami on Netflix.
Joshua hasn't been in action since a fifth-round knockout loss at the hands of Daniel Dubois in September 2024. His promoter Eddie Hearn hinted the 36-year-old would return before the end of the year, with February 2026 also earmarked for the Olympic gold medalist's comeback.
“Our team has worked closely with all parties to navigate this situation responsibly,” Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, said in a statement earlier this month after the removal of Davis from his exhibition bout with Paul.
“While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025. Details regarding a new date, location, Jake’s opponent, and additional bouts will be shared as soon as they are finalized. We thank Netflix, the Kaseya Center, and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for their partnership.”
In October, Courtney Rossel, Davis’ ex-girlfriend, filed a civil lawsuit in Miami-Dade County accusing Davis of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

There'll be an agreement in place, surely.
If he doesn't destroy him in short order then there IS an agreement.
A lot of boxing insiders talked hinted at an agreement in build up to the Paul-Tyson fight, Teddy Atlas, Paulie and Adam Smith to name three. If it lasts long than the Ngannou fight, it's agreed IMO.

Unless Paul is bleeding profusely at the end of the 1st. I might also buy it under that circumstance as well.
Even if Joshua just jabbed him the entire 1st round he'd bust him up

If Joshua carries him at all he's going to become a laughing stock for the rest of his life. Just watch Ngannou Vs Joshua and imagine if Ngannou was that much smaller and carried that much less power. Joshua could knock out Paul just by swinging looping punches, his guard won't stop them. I can see Paul running and then claiming he lasted X rounds with the former champ.

AJ has got some nastiness in him, even if he let it go a couple of rounds, he would still bust him up in the meantime.
What he did to the MMA fighter was a bit frightening

It's just if Joshua takes it seriously rather than treating it like a game

Even if AJ took it as a joke, I would still fear for JPs health
A right handed from AJ would kill the average bloke

Yes - it is still a shocker how Fury seemed to geniunely struggle with Francis.

I don't mean it like that, I mean if he treats it like a joke it could go rounds before he bothers stepping up the pressure. It wouldn't make him look good though

No power to hurt him was the problem. Ngannou was raw as far as Boxing ability but he was legitimately strong and tough. Fury didn't have the power to dent him, and also didn't appear to have taken it seriously in training.
AJ having seen the struggles Ngannou had given Fury was wise enough to take it seriously, that combined with his superior punching power, and we got what we got.

On a side and I don’t know much about MMA so excuse my ignorance…. Jake Paul has fought some named “past it “ MMA guys and has done a number on then.
Francis is now late thirties himself and has only had 2 fights. Would Paul vs Ngannou be the miss match people would have thought after Ngannou ran Fury so close.
I’ve seen Paul fight enough and he’s useless, but Ngannou looked pretty awful vs Joshua also. Just a thought really, but obviously there is a size difference.
