Old bones Ian wrote: 19 Dec 2025, 04:58 I don't know why but getting this last edition of Boxing News Weekly has made me feel rather sad , I got my first copy when I was about 14/15 now I'm 54 and it's been a part of my life , I even still subscribed when I went travelling for a couple of years in my twenties and had all the copies to read when I got home.

I know time moves on and it's either go monthly or lose it completely, I appreciate all the guys who have written for Boxing News over the years. Cheers
Great post and I agree with you 100%
Yes it’s a sad day. But at least the publication is still going. I really would be gutted if BN disappeared. So much history, so many memories. Like Ian I feel sad and nostalgic. To a true boxing fan BN every week was a gift.

Mine has arrived. I disagree with a few of the awards. Canelo v Crawford top 3 fights of the year?

Bit bold doing a "best of 2025" before the year finishes. What if paul beats aj tonight 🤔

That would be 'most depressing of 2025'

Well definitely one of the biggest fights and best performances, if not a great fight

Like everyone I was sad when Matt left, my subs have gone in and out over the last 25 years. I hope to see the mag in the New Year. I think I'm as sad for what it represents; in tandem with the problems in small halls, the advent of influencers versus champions and the decline in quality match ups in the UK.

All worrying and intertwined. Any road.

Good luck to Oliver. He's got years on the clock and feels like a contemporary which seems surreal too.

I feel a mix of sadness but very interested in the new format.. I used to like the old Boxing Monthly a long time ago but hadn't bought it for years. I used to regularly contribute to Boxing News so I will miss my weekly fix, it was very much a part of keeping up with the Boxing fraternity along with IFLTV and TalkSport etc.. There will be a void.

I am digitally subscribed to The Ring but I find it a little soulless at the moment and its format is expensive in print form. I am hoping for good things does anyone know the first publication date, I think it's around the 16th but can't be sure...?

thanks in advance

Has anyone got this yet? I've seen it in a few newsagents but haven't had a copy delivered yet as a subscriber.

Mine arrived yesterday its brilliant really good quality. The editor’s column is great, lovely story about interviewing Richard Dunn. Hirsch, Buncey and Houston have quality articles in it too. Young lad called Oscar Pick has an article about Franklin in it, he’s a good writer. The wife bought me a subscription for Xmas it’s bloody brilliant. Not that it matters but the paper is quality too. 108 pages. I like the S n C bit at the end too. Plenty of space for Miles and the history stuff too.

It sure is. I just think Oliver and co are clearly working their arses off to make it happen so I’m hugely supportive.

I get the point about being supportive, but I can read a magazine in about an hour. You could buy an actual book (or two, if an offer is on) for the same price, makes it difficult to justify.

Nice look to it, glossy like a GQ magazine, looks like boxing monthly with a boxing news twist: amateur section at the end and the fight reports and previews, nice touch.

Good layout, good cover - Nick Bond design, who I think used to do boxing news and or boxing monthly.

Great to see the venerable Graham Houston on board, but he should be doing the big previews, especially the New York one. No disrespect to Shaun who’s a very decent writer, but no one comes close to GH. Oscar Pick looks a good find based on the Franklin interview.

And I think more interviews are the way to go. especially with 100 pages to fill - Jack hirsch on Teo Lopez was very good. I mean you get to ask questions that we don’t necessarily know the answers to, whereas the general thought pieces in there go over old ground that we all know about already.

Great effort though I’ll be getting issue 2

No sign of mine, as of yet. Four days late now, and still no sign of a postman at all.

Mine too. Naz on the cover, had a flick through and looks quality again.

BN said they would email previews out to subscribers, has anyone had one of them? I haven't.

I think Boxing News has hit an all time low by publishing an article by Ben ‘the Doyen’ Doughty.
To think we had the likes of Donald McRae and Elliott Worsell writing for the magazine not so long ago and now we have to put up with a pathetic fan boy who cosplays being a boxing man. I mean, he even squashed his own nose to try and make himself look like a boxer.
For £11.99 a month, I expect better than to have to read crap from some bloke that wears scruffy shoes.
