I'm not so sure. The establishment is really cracking down on dissent and will, as we are seeing, use the full power of the state - police, courts, schooling, media, the armed forces, etc. - to defend its position. Preferably with words, but by force if necessary.

That sounds like Saudi Arabia. I wouldn't want to go down that route. If you want to show you are better than a backwards barbarian society it's not a good idea to copy their methods. The legal system incarcerates innocent people quite often. Imagine getting a hand chopped off for a crime you didn't commit.
