Benn weighed 146 pounds
Ryan Garcia 145.5.
Both fighters make weight.

I expect and I am backing Ryan Garcia to win 'he should not really drop a single round to Conor Benn'.
Note: This is the first real top level fight, which Conor Benn has been involved in 'where his opponent, has not been disadvantages in some way so the likely-hood of him winning is increased dramatically'.
Nevertheless, I don't think Conor Benn has to win this fight 'to acquire credit. Nobody who knows boxing, is really giving him much of a chance. Therefore, if Benn survives the full-12 rounds and produces a solid effort. I personally think he would deserve big credit for that type of performance. Then he can potentially move up to 154 pounds and above, if he so desired for the remainder of his career' etc.

That weight put back seems extream. But I guess throw a pair of shoes on ect. Could be a bit less than 30 lb…
People have put that kinda weight back on for sure but that’s normally in 30 hours not 12…
Looks good, will be big, ect, but if that’s anywhere close to legit his body has been through hell for the last week or so. Seems like an over the top cut.
Does this commission do a same day weight check? Love to see the official weights for both.

It's definitely doable. You get UFC guys in the 145-170 mark putting on 20+ lbs regularly after weigh in, the guys weighing over that have been seen to put on 30 lbs regularly after weigh in. Some of the biggest weight cutters have put on an insane amount of water weight before the fight takes place. Obviously it's tough and on the extreme end but it's not impossible. Definitely could have an effect on his stamina and durability come fight night though.
Just from a quick Google, and by no means is this a record, but Tagir Ulanbekov weighed in at 125 and put on 22 lbs for the UFC fight in January last year. That's 17% of his bodyweight. Benn's putting on about the same percentage.

In MMA I could see it being advantageous. You could use the extra size to wrestle the guy down to the mat, and all that. In Boxing I can't see it being particularly advantageous at all. I would think your speed would drop significantly. Your stamina has to be depleted in a major way, and 1 day of trying to rehydrate won't quite get you all the way back.
This seems like a case of Conor Benn doing his best to cheat the system, and it's not going to work. He'll be pointed to in the future as an example of why this obviously bad idea is a bad idea.
Re: Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn | Paramount+ - September 12, 2026
Based on how he rehydrated by Friday night, Conor Benn might’ve dragged himself deeper than “the hell” he described while shrinking his body below the welterweight limit.
Benn posted a video on social media that indicated he weighed 178.4 pounds when he stepped on a digital scale in his hotel suite at MGM Grand. He wore a T-shirt and sweatpants when he got on his personal scale.
Still, that’s an astounding 32.4 pounds more than Benn weighed when he stood on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at an official weigh-in Friday morning for his 12-round, 147-pound championship clash with Ryan Garcia on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
The unusual weight gain technically made Benn a cruiserweight, five divisions above where he’ll challenge Garcia for his WBC welterweight title.
England’s Benn weighed 146 pounds for their bout, slightly more than Garcia, who came in at 145½ for his first defense of a WBC belt he won from Mario Barrios on February 21 at T-Mobile Arena. Benn’s weight was his lowest since he came in at 146 for his second-round stoppage of Jussi Koivula in June 2019 in London.
There was no restriction in his contract for how much weight Benn could gain between the official weigh-in and the time he steps into the ring for his fight against Garcia. Their ring walks are tentatively scheduled to start at 7:50 p.m. PT Saturday and 3:50 a.m. BST Sunday in the UK.
Garcia, 28, hasn’t revealed how much weight he gained since their weigh-in. It is highly unlikely that he’ll come close to matching the 5-foot-8 Benn’s weight for a main event Paramount+ will stream to subscribers in the United States and DAZN will offer to subscribers of its Ultimate plan and on pay-per-view in the UK and Ireland.
Gaining so much weight won’t help Benn’s cause when it comes to dealing with the taller Garcia’s superior speed. Benn believes, however, that wearing eight-ounce gloves, standard for bouts contested at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds and lower, will favor him.
DraftKings lists Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs, 1 NC), of Victorville, California, as more than a 3-1 favorite over Benn (25-1, 14 KOs). Even if Benn beats Garcia, he told The Ring he intends to move back up to at least the middleweight division for his following fight.
Benn, 29, is just two fights removed from weighing in at a career-high 159¼ pounds for his 12-round middleweight rematch versus rival Chris Eubank Jr. He beat Eubank by unanimous decision in their second fight and avenged his lone loss in the main event of a Ring card November 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Benn officially weighed 149½ pounds for his last bout – a 10-round, unanimous-decision defeat of Regis Prograis on April 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It's strength overall. The strikers in MMA do it too. I'd say that most of the time it is somewhat advantageous, however, when it is a negative is makes them look awful and poorly prepared. Benn doesn't really have that much power, he generally only stopped old men when he was on juice. I don't see this giving him a more powerful advantage. Garcia will probably catch him with that hook when he dives in.

Only in the sometimes misinformed world of modern combat sports 'can weight draining tactics be seen as advantageous according to certain folk'.
Note: It is not advantageous in the UFC, there are plenty of documentaries out there 'showcasing the acute negative effects and long terms effects of the use of weight draining tactics. Fighters having to pull out of fights, due to the damage they are inflicting upon themselves'.
Ryan Garcia is the more skilled fighter in this match up by miles, and he has to more proven power 'but? One thing which Conor Benn has always had is great conditioning in all of his fights'.
Therefore, if Conor Benn and his team 'have come into this fight, with the aim of being the big man on fight night. Benn might have just ruined his chances of at least being competitive in this fight'.
Ryan Garcia is the more talented fighter 'but his conditioning in the past is an area of his game, which has not been consistent' etc.

It is standard for elite fighters to regain 15 to 25 pounds after stepping off the official scales.
