I doubt very much England can score much more than 200-250 given their first innings performance.

Shocking, they're great when they are on top but when they are up against it they retreat into a horrible defensive shell playing everything on the backfoot when they should be getting forward.

Quite amusing how Pietersen played the Aussie bowlers near perfectly (i.e. stepping across to protect against the inswinger) after taking knocks for his technique in the last couple of weeks saying it wouldnt suit test cricket. The guy has a bright test future I think. Lets not forget Flintoff was pretty raw when he got into the test side and look how he has matured with the bat.

Jones had better make a big score this innings, because he's been fecking useless with the gloves.

Pieterson and the keeper have lost the first test for England with there sloppy catching(if it stops raining).

Have said for a while that the difference between the 2 teams would probably be experience and mental strength and it seems that's the case

I felt the same way Bollox, But there batsmen are intimidated by McGrath warne and Lee. The young Springbok was a good find, imagine the score if he wasn't playing and they had Thorpe instead.

heres a littel synopsis i sent a mate of mine, if you have an x box you cant save EA games they messed up and didnt put a save function in between overs so if you play a test you have to finish it. how mad is that.

no malcom marshall is the best ive ever seen closley followed by Hadlee.
mcgrath is up there though but for excitement hostility and all round skill Malcom gets it for me.

as i said our top order is too brittle.

we fell apart after not taking the initiative in the first innings, Mcgrath won this test on the first afternoon. Wellplayed Austraila and abject surrender from our batsmen.

time to kncuckle down and show what yuou are mad eof England, Id play read instead of Jones, never been a big fan, not only is he droppingt catches he isnt scorign any runs well not enough, so you play your best keeper and Read's glove work is second to none. And that internationally as well, he is an excellent keeper.

Best fast bowler. Has to be Ambrose or Walsh for me.

But Marshall, Donald and McGrath are right up there, alongside Trueman, Lillee etc

McGrath reminds me of the guy who always got Goochy out....the Aussie,

Swung it about 3 inches and did Gooch lbw every time.

Funny you mention Gooch who does have marshall as the best he ever faced

Marshall was the business. He also benefitted from bowling in the same attack as a bunch of other genuinely good pace men. On the flip side, to bowl with that many other greats and still get as many wickets as he did is v impressive.

to quote Gooch, "he was the best as he still got wickets on the sub continent on unhelpful pitches would bowl all day cwith the same hostility and intensity and never give up but off the field he was the nicest man you could ever meet"

I honestley couldn't say who is the best fast bowler ever as there are just to many. Hadlee, McGrath,Lillee,Ambrose,Walsh,Marshal,Holding, you could go on for ever and there all potent on there day.

i dont include lille as i cant remember him at his height.

though obviously every erxpert out there has him in thier top 5-10 quicks.

ont thing is for sure though Warne is the greatest spinner to have walked the earth.

Corft was indeed 'firey'. Kind of the antithesis of Malcolm Marshall personality-wise. He was a huge feller. Him, Marshall, Holding, Garner, Roberts, no wonder opposition batting line-ups shat their pants.

Croft's stock ball was the bouncer at your throat.

Was talking about Courtney Walsh just the other day - he modelled his action on old whispering death himself, Michael Holding. Not as smooth as Holding but effective nonetheless. The late 70's to the mid 80's were an incredible time for WI cricket. Apparently over there these days all the kids are more interested in basketball :x
