I agree with you 100% Bruno was a good fighter. I had so many 'heated' debates with part time 'fight fans' and non Boxing fans who just constantly slated Bruno all the time saying he was a waste of space, had a china chin etc etc etc.

I couldn't care less what he thinks!... I'm replying to his constant silly comments to me. He follows me from thread to thread making stupid comments. If he's taking the time to say silly things to me then I'm polite enougth to respond. Try reading the thread before you accuse me of throwing a wobbly.

I have also noticed that there are some sad simular events that happened in the post Boxing lives of Frank Bruno and Joe Louis. They both never managed to find a focus in life after Boxing, both got divorced, both got into cocaine and both then suffered from mental problems.

very sad.

You're spot on regarding people criticising Bruno. Many people seem to take a childish delight at ridiculing him and a lot of them probably never even saw him fight. Bruno is very underrated today.
Interesting the parallels between Louis and Bruno, unfortunately quite a lot of boxers encounter simular problems after their careers end, I think they find it very hard to replace the 'buzz' that they got out of boxing and even harder to live without this buzz.
I think Joe Louis' mother suffered from mental health problems so it looks like Louis was genetically disposed to falling into the same problems. Ofcourse being hounded by the government for taxes for over 20 years didn't help... :x :x :x

Very true, although Joe was in part to blame for his financial problems due to his constant spending and just giving money away recklessly. But the IRS did screw him in the worst way and the people responsible for that should be ashamed of themselves.

I've read that most of the money that was owed was from exhibitions Louis boxed during the war years where the money all went to soldiers charities... yet the IRS still expected to Louis to pay taxes on these 'earnings'.
Also I'm sure Louis promoter and manager took a lot of the money. Its like Ali, he 'earned' a fortune for his big fights yet his manager was talking 50%!!! and that was before the promoters, trainers and god knows who else taking their cuts too!... :x :x :x

James Braddock as part of the deal to defend his title against Louis was entitled to a percentage of all the following Louis title fights .
An unbelievable deal when you think about it.
I know later on when Louis was in financial differculties Braddock did help him out

Yes it was a good deal, I think it was something like 10% of the promoters (or managers can't remember) cut of all Louis fights for the next ten years.

Yeah, thats a very interesting point. I've heard it claimed that the 10% came out of Mike Jacobs cut of Louis' earnings... but from what I've read of Jacobs I very much doubt that he would have agreed to such a deal, so I am sure that one way or the other that 10% was paid by Louis through the rest of his career.
I've also read that by the 60s Braddock was broke, like Louis. I think one person who helped Louis out financially was Max schmeling.
Funny we never hear about promoters or managers ending up broke or chased to death by the taxman.

Its only bizzare because you know nothing about boxing and nothing about Bruno mate. In both his Biography that came out recently and in the documentry which was done on him this week it was revealed how Bruno injured his eye against Mccall and shouldn't really have been fighting anyone the night he fought Tyson.
He only got through the medical by a whisker. This was all in the documentry and book. Do you really know so little or are you just pretending?...

The only kid here is you. Don't you have anything to say about Brunos eye now???. Or do you still not believe me.

He either passed the medical or he didn't. Explain in more detail how he only just passed. It's like saying someone is a little bit pregnant. Is it a points thing? Come on, if you now so much about it, share it with your #1 fan, Silky. Don't go all coy on me.

Here's a trivia question for you while I'm waiting. We'll start with an easy one. Lawless brought out a former world champ from the USA to have a look at Bruno and offer some advice early on in big Frank's career. Who was it?

Why should I answer any of your questions?... read his biography or watch a recording of the documentry that you seem to have missed. I'm sure Brian will sell you a copy. Its well known that many fighters have fooled the doctors when they've had their eyes examined... Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Seals.... ring any bells do they.
And Bruno met up with lots of ex champs, Floyd Patterson came to England to help him out a bit... but Bruno also met up with Ali and Frazier and Holmes in America. Patterson was the one that came to London...
