Pundit watch Beyer - Colajanni, he sucked eggs.
?? Colojanni sucked; Beyer finally put an oponent who was nothing but running down and out.
Sheika was already whooped by Calzaghe years ago.
And now he was whopped by Beyer.
You hype Kessler like Showtime hyped Lacy.
The difference is: I have no commercial or other interested in hyping up Kessler.
Whats he done other than beat a washed up Lucas and overated Mundine who's best wins are over guys with like 6 wins and more than 10 losses except for Echols. Siaca was beaten by Mitchell twice too.
Not again. We differ sharply in the assessment of Mundine. So be it, but we don't need to chew this through 200 times.

Besides, it's not only the quality of the opposition that makes me think highy of Kessler, it's also HOW Kessler handles his opponents, dominating every second of the fight. He's a complete fighter who seems to be able to adapt to any style, and his defensive abilities are second to none in the higher weight classes. Thus, he's not only very good, he has also a STYLE that ought to be troublesome for Calzaghe. And styles make fights. Again, Calzaghe has not fought any classy evasive counterpunchers EXCEPT for Reid where he almost lost.

The one-line summary: while Beyer-Calzaghe would be more meaninfgul than Lacy-Calzaghe, I really want to see Kessler-Calzaghe.

And I'm almost certain we'll never get that fight. If Calzaghe proves me wrong here, my respect for him will skyrocket. Take my word for it.
Beyer sucked eggs against Colajanni and took him 12 round to finally stop him!

Yeah but Calzaghe actually stopped Sheika unlike Beyer.

Beyer's a snoozefest who Calzaghe would rip apart.

Dude, Calzaghe's fought more classy fighters than just Reid and Reid was in his prime back then so no wonder he troubled him lots.

Wait till Kessler's actually been active enough and we'll see how complete he is.

Kessler's hardly a big name either so he can't go overpricing himself if he wants big fights yet.

Pundit still thinks Lacy was handpicked!

Dude, it was Lacy calling for the fight so they got it made. Plus you can;t call him bad opposition and he held the IBF title and he was more active than Kessler.

I think I remember you thinking highly of Lacy too till I posted the Sheika clip.

Yep. However, I'd be prepared to award the "champ" title to the winner of Calzaghe-Kessler, and I assume so would a large part of the boxing community.

Btw, to all those who disagree with me: I do emphatically NOT say that Calzaghe is bad. I do say that he is protected though, and that the Lacy-fight did not change anything really substantial in this regard. It was a first step in the right direction after a long draught, but there have been several such first steps in Joe's career (e.g., Brewer). A meaningful second step is what is needed now. I doubt though Warren will allow him to do so.

A KO is not better than a lopsieded decision. If you think so nonetheless, you simply need to learn a bit more about boxing.

But Calzaghe makes offers to everyone BUT Kessler.

I don't care who called out who. Calzaghe needed a unifcation fight badly, and unified with a handselected, over-hyped, taylor-made opponent.
I think I remember you thinking highly of Lacy too till I posted the Sheika clip.
Bullocks. As if a 5-second clip could change an assessment.

I had Lacy at #6 at s-m (and Calzaghe #2) - and got lots of stick for this here in the forum, btw.

Did you see the fight? :D
Calzaghe held the WBO-belt and made loads of defenses agasint tomatco-cans and have-beens. Probably the poorest record of all beltholders. He has never been "the champ" at 168 - this is an entriely different thing.

As for Lacy, the uninformed US public hyped him up badly before the bout. But it was always clear to me that the immobile Lacy was taylor-made for Calzaghe, and that team Calzaghe would used this fight to push Joe's reputation - who had become known as a compulsive ducker - with an ultimately cheap win, while continuing to avoid the real challenges.

And everything plays out EXACTLY as predicted.

Cheers, P

PS: btw, yes I saw Calzaghe-vs. the punching bag.
Before the Calzaghe-Lacy fight virtually every US poster was saying that Lacy was the second coming and was going to KO him, now all of a sudden every US poster knew that it would be a stroll in the park for Joe against a limited, immobile, hand-picked, over-hyped....etc. Lacy.

Calzaghe has had some soft defences there's no denying, but the division has hardly been packed full of BIG names. Joe has been widely recognised as the best fighter in the SM division (and the champ) for a long while now. Which SM boxers would you pick to beat Joe? Anybody other than Kessler? (who has only fought anyone of note in his last 3 fights, I hope this fight comes off)

Its well known that Joe hasn't had enough BIG fight, but to call him a 'compulsive ducker' is rubbish. Joe has been the victim of boxing politics and inflated ego's on more than one ocassion (Hopkins and Ottke spring to mind) hes also had injuries at crucial times in his career (Glenn Johnson fight being the main one).

There's still plenty to come from Joe, hopefully the Kessler, Tarver and Johnson fights will come off over the next 12-18 months, then Calzaghes reputation will match his skills. IMO there's nobody between 160 and 175 that beats Joe

A TKO is better than a lopsided decision as he was winning so easy he cut him to pieces and stopped him on cuts.

Nuthugger demeans my opinion so don't use it unless you want to be serious. It's what I think as Beyer is nothing special in my opinion. It could happen if Sauerland doesn't think that they want to stage it.

Dude since when has Kessler fought a classy counterpuncher? You named one for me when you mentioned Robin Reid!

I've got the Lucas fight on disk I havent found his last 4 before that.

No thats only your opinion as he's been getting alot of respect for the Lacy fight so he has got the respect he's craved, just the odd guy like you thinks that.

He's only just come off a big win wait and see to see what Calzaghe's side has offered and you don't hear Kessler wanting it after this do you?

You didn't say it till I posted the Sheika clip he wasn't handpicked as it was Lacy pushing for the fight and was the one who was making noise FIRST so it was made. Read interviews or magazines and you'll know it was Lacy who called for it first not Calzaghe's side handpicking him. So who doesn't get it now.

I don't understand how you bring up Hopkins as having an inflated ego. They guy hammered Trinidad, a man many thought may end his career undefeated, to become the UNDISPUTED champ at 160 (a superchamp as well), and he earned 12 million to fight DLH...so, if anyone desrved big money, it was him...sitting on 20 title defenses, and being the man in one of boxing's most historic divisions.

Calzaghe has never fought anyone, and Lacy squeezed out a narrow decision against a mediocre clubber (Sheika) who in his next fight was schooled and made look like a clown by Markus Beyer.

Lacy is a bully who wins convicingly against fighters who crumble under pressure. But fighters who resist that pressure soon expose Lacy's rather limited arsenal.

All the stupid Yanks think Calzaghe is a fraud. Yes, I agree, he has been overprotected by allegedly allegedly allegedly allegedly. This has been my biggest regret with boxers from the UK including Hatton (pre Tszyu), poor opponents and not willing to travel outside the UK. Calzaghe is not a fraud, he is a sublime boxer, exciting and very powerful for his frame. My only complaint is that he sometimes throws cuffing shots, which is the reason he has had so many hand problems.

His hand speed is 100 times better than Lacys'. Lacy granted is more powerful but we shall see what happen when "Left Hook" is a) driven back for the first time and b) what sort of chin he has.

Calzaghes' chin is good enough and he seems to have the ability to recover after being floored.

Calzaghe has defended his WBO title 17 times. Some great opponents, Mitchell, Reid, Eubank, Brewer and Woodhall. Yes, there has been some crap aswell, but to defend any title 17 times is an amazing achievement.

This fight will not go the distance, I am undecided. A real 50/50 but I am leaning towards Calzaghe TKO 10. Hand Speed will be difference, providing Calzaghe does walk into a huge Lacy shot, when attacking.

Should be a excellent fight and at last, see who reigns supreme now that Sven Ottke (thank god) is gone.

I will be at the MEN and will hope the atmosphere will be as good as when Tszyu graced my presence.

I have a hard time considering Calzsaghe 17 "defenses" against washed-up opponents (Brewer, Mitchell, Woodhall, Eubank all fall into this category) and outright bums as "amazing". Anyway, Lacy is a step up and Calzaghe undoubtedly has strenghts - handspeed, chin, attitude - as well as weaknesses - defense, lateral movement, power; all at best second rate. On the other side, Lacy is a bit untested, and he seems a bit statonary, relying too much on his power - as I wrote elsewhere, kind of a younger, faster version of Brian Mitchell. Unless Lacy can pull something that we haven't seen yet, he seems like an almost ideal opponent for Calzaghe.

In view of this and given that the fight takes place in the UK, I'd also lean towards Calzaghe. IF he comes in motivated. This is a big if.

However, whoever wins this doesn't reign supreme - Mike Kessler is the man to beat at super-middleweight, and supremacy won't be established until this hasn't happened.

get over it mate. over 2 weeks ago most of us were acting like Lacy was the only opponent that mattered for Joe in today's s/m division. so shall we define Joe's whole body of work against Kessler? that's daft

Here my s-m ranking - August 2005. Calzaghe #2, Lacy #6.
And now I'm tired of looking up my own posts.

There are two options for Max:

- come up with something that would confirm that I hyped up Lacy (which would nessarily mean that I suffer from schizophrenia),
- or admit that you were wrong - and apologize.

Before you haven't done either, there is no point in continuing to talk.

My five cents:

1) Kessler - impressive performances against Mundine and Siaca
2) Calzaghe - THE disappointment in today's boxing, but you can't dismiss him
3) Beyer - mentally shaky; when he's good he's really good, when he's poor he's really poor
4) Mundine - very talented but also a bit shaky; lost a couple of key fights (Ottke, Kessler) but demonstrated that he can take anyone into deep waters
5) Green - the Beyer-fight showed his limits against a technically skilled fighter, but he reamins a very dangerous opponent. Can win a title any time
6) Lacy - not proven yet, battered an over-the-hill Reid but struggled against journeyman Sheika. Looks a bit one-dimensional, but his strenght alone makes him a threat

If JC wants to be called world-cass, we should judge him on account of fights against non-hand-selected non-taylor-made opponents. Kessler is the best coming to my mind but not the only one.

let's face it, joe's had his big fight for the year. props to him for that. the bar has been raised too far from the horrid 2004-5, so I would think a good fight will be made next year. there's plenty of good fighters waiting for him. thankfully the idea of the Jones farce seems to have cooled down. if he fights Kessler or Glen Johnson next year tings will be cool

we haven't seen JC in with many top counter punchers, but still he deserves credit for beating Reid who fought superbly on the night. i have to say, Joe is damn good against dangerous punchers, i.e. Brewer, Mitchell and Lacy.

It is well known that Calzaghe excels against punchers who carry the fight to him. A complete top-notch fighter needs to be able to cope with ANY style though, and here we are lacking conclusive evidence.

This is why I would be happy even if Calzaghe fought "only" Beyer or Mundine.

Errrm and I could be busy doing something else Pundit like downloading and posting on 3 other forums!

Go fornicate yourself if your going to talk to me like that then.

Calzaghe is clearly the man, Kessler only won his title in december 2004 and you can put him at no 1 because of Mundine and Siaca. Siaca was beaten twice by Mitchell who Joe stopped in two rounds!

Mundine's record is shite other than Echols, Ottke, Kessler and Siaca and he only beat ONE of them.

Noticed how you missed out Lucas there.

I've proved enough that Lacy wasn't handpicked but because you think Joe does that you keep thinking he was. Read magazines, articles on sites and you'll see it was Lacy's side pushing for it first not Joes side.

Call me nonsense again and your getting ignored I didn't misrepresent what you said.

I didn't see posts by you saying Lacy was handpicked until I posted the Sheika clip and you worried about his defence.

Kessler is still premature to rate No 1 but he can be rated 2 or 3.

Mundine is nothing special although he is top 10 I guess for winning the paper WBA title since Ottke was the proper holder.

Lacking Manliness? I'm lacking an ego unlike you.

Righty.

You say that if he avoids Lacy's power punches he will win. Although this one says Lacy's style will suit him but this is after the Sheika clip.

Btw, this is what Calzaghe himself says about the style matchup (from fightnews):

"I like Lacy's style, he's an exciting fighter but I think that his style plays in to my hands to be honest," exclaimed Calzaghe. "I like fighters who come to me rather than fighters I have to chase."

My saying all along. Lacy suits Calzaghe. What does not suit Calzaghe would be an evasive, slick counterpuncher with good footspeed, and this is why he hasn't faced any of these in his entire career.

If Calzaghe can avoid or withstand Lacy's power-punches he will win. Team Calzaghe has done its homework before taking this fight: they have avoided excess risks during Joe's entire career, they are taking a calculated risk now. I doubt team Lacy has done its homework though. The fight comes too early for Jeff.
Most of the posts I can find are mostly just pro Kessler ones! Which were after my Sheika clip.

Or one says Joe ducked a guy like Mundine!

http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p ... ht=#446522

Oh yeah and I find this which can insinutate that you were a little pro Lacy by maybe joking that you thought he was ducking him too!
From the newsticker: Calzaghe check into Cardiff hospital to get heart-pacemaker. Fight with Lacy rescheduled for April 3, 2106.

Here you rate Kessler past him and past him now! Could of understood a little bit maybe but Joe is past Kessler until they fight.

Awww man! Where is that Knob Mc Dude too saying he hates Calzaghe because of me and wanted to shove my nuthgging shit in my face hmmm?

Oh and looking what I found before it went off topic.

Joke or not you still thought he would of pulled out from Lacy and never made a post worried about Lacy till I posted the Sheika clip

You said he wouldn't of schooled him.

Note: Pundit still looking through posts.
In a nutshell: you can't come up with ONE post where I would have spoken highly of Lacy - while there are plentiful posts where I doubted Lacy's potential, reaching back to ever since I joined this forum last August (see the above).

But still you don't have the guts and decency to retract your false statement - that I would have started to doubt Lacy only after you posted this clip - and admit that you grossly misrepresented my views. Instead of conceding that you were mistaken, you try all kinds of detractions- listing what I wrote about Mundine or Kessler (not the topic here), or what Knob Mc Dude wrote (neither). And, ultimately, you insist on character-assassinating me - even if you have to blatantly ignore all the facts for this.

Why don't you just say: "sorry I was wrong, and I apologize" - is this simply beyond your means?

I just came up with them as they could of insinuated that you did speak highly of him joke or not.

I'm not retracting it because I showed enough posts already.
