PN - I don't think Wright was near getting stopped, even Jermain Taylor said he didn't think he hurt him badly.

I just didn't really see a completely dominant round in the whole contest, Taylor was doing of the rope a dope during his "big" rounds and the constant commentating of Darke was words like "look HOW GOOD Taylor looks responding to Wright's attacks" - but for me the emphasis should have been on "responding to Wright's attacks".

I'm fine with the draw, as I didn't do an official card, but I felt Wright won the first four and the last two and some of the last rounds were even.

I think it was nice to see, three different scorecards but all showing how close the fight was.

Shows the subjective nature of this game, I'm sure the vast majority of the forum members here, with the exception of those who scored it to Wright, would have given rounds 8 and 9 to Taylor, these two rounds were when Darke and Watt were saying he was in control. Yet, these rounds were universally given to Wright. I thought they were level - I liked Wrights aggression and Taylor was only fighting in spurts replying to Wright.

Looking at these cards, I think Wright probably finds himself the unluckier of the two. Wright won four rounds universally (5, 8, 9, 11) to Taylors 3 (1, 6, 7). Also quite how Wright was seen to be losing after four rounds on one of the cards, and also drawing on the other two is beyond me. Wright won 3 of those 4 rounds at least.

Yes in rounds where there is little to seperate two fighters, it comes down to who you feel was controlling things or who landed the cleaner shots, and that is not a precise science, so there should be no surprises that this fight

Wright sounds like he was unfortunate that often the judges (or at least some of them, preferred Taylors volume over Wright's precision, but this was always likely to be the case.

I thought Taylor won it. Didn't score it round by round, but over all, it seemed to me that Taylor had the upper hand most of the time. Defintely landed the harder shots - just look at their faces at the end: Winky was well marked up and his face looked like it had been used to block A LOT more of those thudding jabs than Darke was giving Taylor credit for.
JT had the closed eye, but that was a head clash.

I was much more impressed by Taylor than his previous efforts v Hop.

Can you get a good copy of Minter/Sibson?

It seems to me that a lot of observers in the States had Winky a handy winner (or at least thought he deserved the nod - see Fischer's mailbag on maxboxing.com) whilst in the UK most (myself included) thought Taylor did enough to retain his belts.

Cracking match though I thought and I would welcome a return match.

Taylor looked huge for teh weight, showed an excellent right hand and can only grow at 27 from his last 3 difficult assignments.

Sounds like it was quite a fight by all accounts, sadly Sky doesn't get hooked up until next week which is a pisser.

Thanks Saw a pirate copy of it years ago, but could hardly see much the picture was so poor.
You'd think the BBC would release it after all these years - all over a bit of advertising on the shorts.
