Caqlzaghe is a MASSIVE waste of talent.

Why he did'nt go to America and try to claim a REAL belt years ago I don't know.
He would be retired by now, counting his millions, with his legacy and HOF place guarenteed.

Instead,he is planning a 'homecoming' fight in Cardiif.(was'nt his last fight in Manchester???hardly the other side of the world is it?)

Look for such great names as Green,Manfredo jnr or even Veit(again)to cement his legacy as Britains greatest fighter(HA HA HA HA HA)
smeg America, there contradicting bastards when some say or the experts think a non yank needs to go there. The Opp matters more than where you go.

He's already made millions though.

He has another injury and then most you guys start claiming the bullshit again that he's going to duck again like in the past.

Least Warren wasn't trying to get a joke name before he pulled out so they are showing they want the names.

Whats a real belt?
Notice how America - in general - are so interested in the truly international s/m division that they just about drop everything, including giving Kessler a showcase. Their plans went out the window the minute Lacy got whipped.

If all ppl like Yiddo can talk about is America then he needs to grow up - cos Brewer and Mitchell had no fan base, Lacy was supposed to build one but where can he draw except for Florida? At least JC doesn't fight before 1/2 empty arenas. So it all boils down to he should've fought Lacy, Brewer, Mitchell in America? Why, when they were desperate to come to the UK? Most stupid thing I've heard all day, and it's only 5:45 am! Hmm, maybe he should've fought fellow long reigner OTTKE in America. LMAO

Hey you know what there like, want everything delivered on a plate.

Shit they (HBO) are even making Pacquiao fight at 11:00am in his home town of Manila just to suit their time zone!! They did same with Calzaghe-Lacy, but didn't mind staying up all night to catch that.

HBO made Hatton fight at 4am!

To be fair, it was in their land.

If it's in our land then they should watch to our timezone as they just get it earlier.

Well if they fight on our land then they should have our time.

By going to America,he would have had an easier time trying to land the bigger fighters.
If you can get these top names to fight in your own backyard then thats all good, but it hardly ever happens does it?
I mean for years Joe got fed a bunch of dead meat if we are being honest.
Imagine if he had split with Warren, gone to the states and hooked up with a big time promoter out there?
He would more than likely have fought guys like Roy Jones and B-Hop already.
To cement a true legacy, that will get you talked about for years, means you HAVE to go to America and prove them lot wrong.
Thats where the powerbase of the sport is.
Also, its every fighters dream to top the bill in the garden or out in Vegas. So why has'nt Joe took the jump?

'You have to make it in America' is one of the great fallacies of the sport. It's right up there with 'you have to take the title away from the champion', or 'I beat him, I did! Look at his face, it's marked up!"

The only reason you have to go to America to prove a legacy is because the HOF voters are mostly American writers - not even the best, or most thoughtful/knowledgable American writers if many inductions will have it - who would more likely vote for Barry McGuigan than, say, Brian Mitchell. Populism, sadly, infects the criteria. Hall of 'Fame', indeed.

You need to take a lot of factors into account. Who were the best American super middles of 1997 to the present? Tell me if there was another one that Calzaghe didn't beat. Who was the fellow elite of 168-lbs? Ottke. Your argument is misguided. Fault Calzaghe for not fighting Ottke - that would have been a massive fight AND would have decided legacies at 168.

And half of the crap that's said about Ottke is total myth. Hometown decision against Glen Johnson, lucky to beat Brewer, only fought retreads my shith_ole. I read this nonsense on the only pay site, maxboxing.

Anyhow, what's the point bitching about Calzaghe? He's 34, coming off a superb win and proving many wrong, with 2 yrs left, not 36 or 37 or 38 and calling it a career. There's no way he can ignore Kessler, when Kessler unifies the WBA and WBC titles. That's a huge fight. But I don't expect you to be interested in it.

Boxing is global, remember that.

By going to America, he'd have a slave contract like Mayweather said. :TU:

These top names should make an example then that they don't do the same but they do.

Of course Joe had some easy fights, all champs do it.

If he left Warren then he'd be an unknown like Hatton will start to be in his own country. Fine and dandy going to the states but having your own as fans should matter more. Plus Warren has shown he can do it with a fighter when they deserve it. He had B-hop until Hopkins pulled out wanting more money. As for Jones well he'd rather steal fighters belts and nearly cripple the WBC.

Monzon cemented most of his Legacy fighting in Europe not America so I'd hardly call them a powerbase and they seem to be losing it as most are coming to europe for bigger pay. There trying to keep it going with past their best guys for Vargas, Mosley and even Roy Jones is still on PPV there! Only one worth thinking of is FLoyd Mayweather.

If Kessler-Beyer happens, it'll be huge. Like I say, Boxing is a global phenomenon. The best of UK fought the best of America (Calzaghe-Lacy) in one unification. The best of Denmark Kessler is fighting the best of Germany, in another unification. Showtime definitely helped by staying with Calzaghe-Lacy, but what have they done since? - Kessler's showcase never happened. Top Europeans Karmazin, Mormeck and Adamek got major wins in America, but are festering on the shelf. So, how much can we balance on making it in America? There's good & bad; it's not the be all and end all.

Besides, if Calzaghe can get a fight with Winky or Kessler, in the UK, what is there to moan about? (Would Winky have travelled all those years if he had any fan base?)

I was overjoyed when Calzaghe beat Lacy, an apparently dangerous fight. But it was clear befoe that fight that Kessler was a much better fighter than Lacy. But the Ring award Calzaghe their championship belt. That's hypocrisy, as Ottke didn't get it when he unified the WBA and IBF against Mitchell.

No, because Beyer is a quite competent counterpuncher.

Still, I see Kessler winning this handseomely. If he can dominate Mundine in Australia, he can dominate Beyer - who fights a similar style - in Denmark.

How many people in Manila are going to watch that fight compared to other markets in the US.

to win the super middleweight title i think u have to come thru calzaghe. that's why ottke didn't get the title from the ring cos he only fought mitchell who was ranked lower than calzaghe.

calzaghe was ranked at no1 and he took on a titleholder in lacy and therefore got the title.

i think the ring were right in making calzaghe the champ. :TU:

I don't think you can question right now that Calzaghe is #1. I had Lacy 2 or 3 depending on how I felt in the morning, and Calzaghe battered him. Hindsight lets me know he was overrated, but with Jeff's body of work, you could venture to see how he got so high.

Now, his fight is the Kessler/Beyer winner. Kessler winning I feel is better for boxing, better for Calzaghe's resume, better for the division.

I don't think many people want to see a declining Beyer vs Calzaghe, two guys who are apparently looking to call it a career within 5 fights, go at it to unify a division, only to leave and have it get fragmented again. At least with Kessler/Calzaghe, it gives Mikkel the chance to rule 168 for a few years.

Call that what you wish, but "consistent" it is certainly not.

I believe it was right not to give Ottke the ring championship at the time, and it was incorrect to give it now to Calzaghe.

What you mean apart from a good proportion of the 90+million population of Philippines? Pacquiao is a national hero there, he will have millions tuning in, more than US will pull in thats for sure. Not to mention millions from around the world.

to win the ring title at super middle u have to come thru calzaghe. :box: calzaghe has been at or near the top of that division since 1997.

I agree with you - you should beat the number 2 to get the ring championship.
Which means, Calzaghe should not have gotten it for beating Calzaghe (who was the Ring's #3, and in my book #5 behind Calzaghe, Kessler, Beyer, Mundine).

Think Pundit was right he was 3 for a bit.

Can;t remember though but Calzaghe won their title under the rules as 1 and 3 can fight for it.

Anyway the fans wanted the fight and we got it. :TU:

In case of #1 vs. #3 the Ring Magazine puts up the belt in "exceptional circumstances". They never specified though what these circumstances were.
