Ali
Ali's perforamances post-Foreman should not be held against him because he was past his prime. Young was not the only one to make a declining Ali look bad. Ali was beaten by Spinks and some feel Norton beat him in their third fight.

(1) only picks out fights at the end of his career to highlight any serious defects or
(2) make up ridiculous stories that his greatest wins were somehow manufactured or bought

Re: Ali
Look at it the other way, Ali didnt exactly make Young look good... Young was too negative, thats why he lost... for a fading fighter Ali's record post Foreman is hardly bad... he beat Lyle, Bugner, Frazier, Norton, Young and Shavers and lastly Spinks...Cojimar 1945 wrote:Ali's perforamances post-Foreman should not be held against him because he was past his prime. Probably a better resume in that period than just about any other HW in history. And he was well past his prime!!silkov wrote:for a fading fighter Ali's record post Foreman is hardly bad... he beat Lyle, Bugner, Frazier, Norton, Young and Shavers and lastly Spinks...![]()

Yeah, but don't forget, according to Granberry, Young and Shavers were "under instruction" to lose. The Great John L wrote:Probably a better resume in that period than just about any other HW in history. Tell us about Ali's last two permances pre-Liston.Cojimar 1945 wrote:Ali's perforamances post-Foreman should not be held against him because he was past his prime. He was staggered by Doug Jones ' right hand 15 seconds into their fight. He showed no punching power against Jones, who was a head shorter and 25 pounds lighter than Ali. He needed the officials to give him his gift "decision" in a fight that he lost badly---to an overweight lightheavyweight.
Then Ali had his nose bloodied by 185 1/2 lb Henry Cooper 15 seconds into their fight. Cooper knocked Ali into Queer Street with his left hook at the end of round four. And our hewro got extra time between rounds immediately after he was knocked down.
Ali showed in these last two fights before fighting Liston that he
had no defense
was very hittable by Doug Jones and Henry Cooper
was very hurtable (staggered by Jones and knocked down by 185 1/2 lb Cooper)
and had no punching power against two fighters both 25 pounds lighter than he was.
And then in his next fight he beats Liston?
No thank you.
