Get used to the thought: Kessler has real one-punch knockout power. Yet another quality that he does not share with Calzaghe.
So confused he got up right on 'out'... hmmmmmmm.
His legs looked fine when he did get up.
Kessler has one punch KD power... but Beyer isn't exactly known for his iron chin.
Calzaghe would box rings around Kessler and his 'jab'. :TU:
I can see Calzaghe outworking Kessler at a pace no fighter has given Kessler yet. Outworking Kessler will get him through that high or low guard he has.
That's how I see it too. If Calzaghe can beat Kessler this will be how.
Kessler leaves his chin open when he jabs due to his right arm moving as he does, wide open for a Calzaghe straight left.
And Calzaghe is wide open for Kessler's right, with is pretty sweet (as Beyer experienced)
Hasn't shown any or barely inside work at all and Calzaghe has great work rate on the inside.
True true. But getting inside is damn difficult -- see what hapened to Beyer.
Kessler didn't show he can cover against body shots too in the Beyer fight and just jumped in and out of range.
True again.
Kessler's style only works because of his footwork and Calzaghe's just as good if not better on the feet.
In-out they are both pretty good, lateral Kessler is better.

Would be an interesting fight, wouldn't it?

PS: you're improving, mate. :TU:

You Monkey, Calzaghe does get hit by rights, but he isn't chinny like Beyer and does not get hit with too many of them regardless.

Kessler cannot outwork Calzaghe at a fast pace, his style ain't built for it.

Omg Calzaghe's leagues above Beyer, he will get on the inside after a quick combination or will find a way.

He's comparing Calzaghe to Beyer. :o :o :o :o :o

No doubting he was hurt, but it did look a little like he thought to himself 'eff this' - Kessler got him at a perfect time, and I reckon the Beyer of 6-7 years ago would have given Kessler all he could handle.

As for Kessler, he has a nice jab, hard straight right hand. But he is ya typical upright European fighter - There are no angles and he doesn't seem to offer much on the inside - He's also very flat footed, and that to me is the key.

Calzaghe would beat him on points.
Top quality post. :TU:

Taylor would take Kessler at 168 (with room to spare) and he'd run Calzaghe pretty close.
Taylor isn't a class apart from anything, he simply had 3 stalemates with Hopkins and Winky.

Big fuckin g deal, his speed kept him in it. If he was such a ring general why make such a meal out of Ouma?

Let's see if he's a 'class apart' from Pavlik, Miranda, Abraham, Sturm, Carrera - I'll bet we don't get to find out.

Taylor's RECORD looks great, but his performances are not - yet. He has an image problem, in that he has yet to beat anyone good convincingly.

There has been a gross imbalance in Taylor's opposition. And his fighting style shows it. He's uneven.

I'm very pleased with Kessler. He fights like a fully rounded veteran and is going into a fight with someone who has the capability of knocking him out. Mundine, Beyer, Siaca and Lucas are solid names to have.

As to your has been remark, Mundine looks anything but that following his masterful win over Green (almost as good as Calzaghe's over Lacy) and upcoming fight with Soliman. And Librado Andrade is a promising young puncher.

Is there anything comparable on the schedules of Calzaghe or Taylor? Didn't think so, aren't they both fighting Contender boys??

Wait til Taylor a) beats someone who doesn't need 7 rounds to warm up, or b) can punch [no, I do not mean Kassim 'Meaty Punch' Ouma]...then I may join your bandwagon!

Ok, let me get this straight, because after reading this thread I'm confused. Here's what I'm getting;

Taylor is a much better fighter than Kessler. Joe C could simply outbox Kessler, beat him on the inside, and take his belts if Joe were so inclined. So, Joe C wants to fight Taylor, the tougher guy. And not fight Kessler who has the titles at Joes weight class and is an easier mark. Huh?

Drawing with Wright is better than any win on Kessler's record. Mundine couldn't knock my mum out, Beyer even less so, and Siaca and Lucas were waaaaaay past their best (not that eithers best was ever that good anyway) when Kessler had a crack at them.
If you want to hype up Kessler, Taylor really isn't the man to try and draw comparisons against, simply because in every sense that counts he's in a different class.

Mundines win over Green was easy to predict. Danny has had his moments at supermiddle, but he was never anything more than a brawler and was found out second time around by the most beatable of 168lb champions, Marcus Beyer. Mundine is hugely overrated, on the back of his various losses-- which says it all really.

Drawing with Wright is better than any win on Kessler's record.
It's also better than any win on Calzaghe's record, which, in turn, is far worse than Kessler's record.
Mundine couldn't knock my mum out,

27-3 (21 KOs). among them Rick Thronberry, for example, who went 12 rounds with Calzaghe.
Beyer even less so, and Siaca and Lucas were waaaaaay past their best (not that eithers best was ever that good anyway) when Kessler had a crack at them.
Mundine and Beyer alone is much better than Calzaghe's entire record, assembled over 10 disappointing years.

Plus: Kessler went to Australia and fought Mudine infront of this homecrowd.
If you want to hype up Kessler,
Kessler doesn't need hyping up. It's obvious that he's by far the biggest threat at 168, and it's as obvious that Calzghe is ducking him.
Taylor really isn't the man to try and draw comparisons against, simply because in every sense that counts he's in a different class.
Exactly. His cl ass is 160, while Kessler and Calzaghe are at 168. Buyt Calzaghe is so scared of Kessler that he needs to turn to the little men.
Mundines win over Green was easy to predict.
I remeber the forum was split down the middlwe before the fight.

But you're right -- Green is good but a bit one-sided, while Mundine is top notch world class. Another guy Calzaghe will never fight.
Danny has had his moments at supermiddle, but he was never anything more than a brawler and was found out second time around by the most beatable of 168lb champions, Marcus Beyer. Mundine is hugely overrated, on the back of his various losses-- which says it all really.

Rubbish Taki.

Mundine was a ruby league player who turned pro in 2000. No wonder he's had some losses, but don't forget the wins - Green, Echols, Soliman (not a robbery)

God forbid, he lost some fights. But he has a future, combine that with his speed and skills & he's a live opponent.

Beyer is vulnerable, but has been a quality boxer over the years. And he was holding a title @ the time.

Andrade hits fornicating hard - ppl interested in Kessler at least have something to look forward to.

Things look pretty 'Taki' in Calzaghe and Taylor ville.

Who next - Grady Fvcking Brewer - in order to get a spot in the Hall of Fame...who gets him first is the question - Calzaghe or Taylor (rematch), LOL

This is an honorable but useless attempt to get a fanatic in touch with basic reasoning.
God forbid, he lost some fights.
To:
-- Sven Ottke, the best super-middleweight at the time, when Mundine had only 10 pro fights
-- Manny Siaca, when Mundine entered the fight injured, but still won on most peoples' scorecards
-- Mikkel Kessler, the best super-middlweight of hour days, a guy Joe Calzaghe doesn't dare to fight
But he has a future, combine that with his speed and skills & he's a live opponent.
He is a top 3 super middlweight beyond any doubt.
Beyer is vulnerable, but has been a quality boxer over the years. And he was holding a title @ the time.
The best title, while Kessler was holding the secdon best title. Now Kessler holds the two best titles.
Andrade hits effing hard - ppl interested in Kessler at least have something to look forward to.
Kessler goes where it hurts. How long have we been waiting for such a champ at 168.
Things look pretty 'Taki' in Calzaghe and Taylor ville.

Taylor will always be more accomplished than Kessler and will bring more prestige. You know it's funny when people say Taylor's wins aren't that great as his best wins are against older folks, but in truth Taylor's single draw with Winky is better than anything on Kessler's record, nevermind his wins over ATG, P4P king Hopkins. Mundine is, has, and always will be overrated.

Kessler's record is not better than Calzaghe's. Shit, Joe's win over Eubank is better than every win on Kessler's record, regardless of Eubank's age.

Andrade will be a good challenge to Kessler, but "deceptively skilled" says alot. Kessler's defence against Andrade is no better than Calzaghe's defence against Veit.

Problem is, a lot of people have been excited about Calzaghe. But he and his dad manager and promoter Warren care nothing about what anyone thinks.

I was thrilled before, during and after the Lacy fight. But what's next to look forward to? Again, he is acting like a man who doesn't want to be champion.

It's kind of sad that the top wins on Calzaghe's title reign are EQUAL to the top wins on Kessler's record. It is fvcking sad because Kessler has only been champ for 3 years.

Taylor has fast hands, a nice repertoire etc etc, but he's getting used to giving away the initiative vs elite fighters and that's a dangerous habit, especially if he wants to fight some of these young hungry middles or particularly a top 2 super middle.

had to laugh at what Doug Fischer wrote. Something like 'Taylor didn't remind me of Hagler or Monzon, or even Nunn or Tate.' Sad but true - for the moment.

Your crazy if you think Beyer's as good as Calzaghe, Calzaghe would of done a Lacy on him. :TU:

You'll never see Kessler pull out such a performance like that, even I thought he wouldn't win that easy although I thought he was in for a beating!

I still think he might still fight Kessler eventually and I have no doubts about the outcome.

They are not equal though, on the whole Calzaghe's record is superior and so are his standout wins.

Before Kessler won a title, his opposition was mostly garbage, that's almost 30 fights. Whereas Calzaghe was beating Eubank in his 23rd.

You know, those that said Eubank was old (31) when he fought Calzaghe should take alook at Kessler's opposition since winning a title.

Beyer 35
Lucas 35
Mundine 30
Siaca 30
Thysse 34
Green 36
Porras 32
Cummings 36
Thobela 36

Andrade will be the first young, hungry, threatening and undefeated fighter Kessler has faced to date.

Calzaghe is in year nine as champ and 35, and yet the play has been taken away by a 26 year old with a handful of title defences.

I've always stood up for Calzaghe's top wins, so I'm not getting into that.

But as for the guy who said Kessler has fought nothing but has beens and never wases, well that's what critics of Calzaghe say.

Erm...Beyer and Siaca were title holders...what was Calzaghe doing, waiting till Beyer was 37??

In fact, what on earth was Warren doing turning down an Oct date with Beyer, insisting that it be in September, and then fighting Bika in October?

Keep your eye on the ball, Joe. Calzaghe could've won TWO unifications this year, even if he was blatantly ducking Kessler he could've still got fighter of the yearaward.

Damn shame that Calzaghe is taking the piss, he won't be fighting a young puncher any time...ever.

Wonder if Lucian Bute will ever get a shot, when he's ready?

The thing I hate about calzaghe's career is that they seem to love taking these Bika and Salem type fights, and these are the fights that he looks horrible in.
