Dave - Remember, he said if he ever caught you at a show that he was going to sort you out or gove you a piece of his mind? I forget which but Buncey ends his first email to Dave 'if I ever see you at a show...' I emailed Dave back saying 'I'll come to a show with you and we'll have it out wih Bunce' because Buncey annoyed me with a piece in boxing monthly that Calazghe vs Mario Veit I on sky was better than the commonwealth title fights from Australia terrestial TV used to show in the old days and that woun me up because I thought Buncey was taking us boxing fans for mugs, but thankfully wiser heads (Daves) prevailed and it was all sorted out but I saw Buncey in a new light and I feel he writes because he does truly love the sport. He writes it for us (Boxing fans) and proabaly gets hurt when his peers criticise him and his writing.

Oliver - As for yuo winning money on the back of the Rahman shock I'll quote Chopper Read on that one 'and not a drink in it or me' Were we the only website to predict the result? I was proud of predicitng the result but when I saw the finished article, even with your editing I knew I had a lot of work to do if I wanted to make a success of writing. You know it probably coincided with reading Bunceys email and what sacrifices he had to make to become a boxing writer.

Goz - On a hot sunny beach with the girls in bikinis walking past and you have a cold pint in your hand. The mind wanders sometimes when you think what you can and can't do. You read Buncey for example or Tony Connolly and think 'I can do better than them' and write to publications
like boxing news (ahem! ) like a latter day Yozzer Hughes 'Gizza job! I'm better than Tony Connonlly/Jim Brady' then you actually do it and the resalts are suprising, That writing isn't that easy and the subjects I would have to write about (boxing journalism hell would be wriitng about PBF or Alex Arthur) would not inspire me. I think most of us are honest about what are limitations are and in my case I didn't want it enough and it also put my personal interest of boxing under the microscope and it was a suprise that I didn't like it that much where I would want it to take over my life. It was a definite eye opener and one I'm grateful for.

I think Claude has dubious views on internet boxing sites and the people who write on them. I also think he supports a rigid hierachial structure of us (the fans, the great unwashed, barrack room lawyers, smart arses, know it alls and know nothings) to his goodself and his journalistic peers who he sees as professional writers and experts of the sport.

I don't think for one moment Claude Abrahams would deign himself to write on here. I don't know why, we are the customers of his magazine. and thus I might start to buy BN again. At this moment in time it is he biggest rip off in British publishing.

Spud Woollatt - handsome, intelligent, charismatic. A fekkin legend. What happened to his old mate (Hippo was it?) after they fell out and ended the double act? Hippo (?) was the Andrew Ridgely of the duo so he's probably gone back to being a nobody.

Can Spud survive a Hatton move back to Warren. I saw more of Spud in the build up to the Castillo fight than I did of Castillo.

As it happens, they are in the process of revamping their website. Knowledge of web publishing was one of the criteria in the job ad. I understand why they want to keep the magazine print-exclusive, but certainly they can ignore the internet no longer and there are certain things which would complement the magazine, rather than compete with it.

He's always been rubbish: I remember him writing for the Telegraph, in the days when he was hanging onto Hamed's coat tails for grim life ( "I knew Naz when he was was unknown amateur - trust me!" ) before Naz dumped him.
He penned an article with the headline "Naz shows the way to beat Barrera" and this was because Jr Jones had just KO'd MAB. Yet good ol Buncey spent the whole article singing the praises of Naz, telling us how it was Hamed's visit to Jones in the dressing room before the fight that had paved the way for Junior's victory. "Hit him with the right hand Junior!"

I thought be must be slightly unbalanced back then, now I'm sure of it.

I do enjoy reading Bunce's column, but only in the same sort of way I enjoy hearing Larry Merchant's final thought in the last few years on HBO. It wouldn't be the same without them - but cannot see much point of them either. If reading BM is a form of escapism from everyday life and work, then Bunce's column is escapism from the escapism.

I enjoy it when he writes about something nobody else would even think about. Even when he writes about something obvious, he gives it an angle nobody else does, or captures a feeling or an atmosphere.

I'd say Merchant borders on the brilliant. He was certainly a brilliant writer, and he's one of the few to be able to translate that into live on the fly commentary.

VERY difficult, and as a result he'll stumble a few times, but over all Larry is a different class - as I think HBO have just realised as they backtrack and keep him on board ( I hope ).

He is an ex army NCO of lengthy service who saw action in such hotspots
with the RAOC in Bordon an decided to put all he learnt in the army into the world of professional boxing.

I don't know what that is yet. But he seems to have his mug everywhere nowadays. he has been banned, kicked off and departed from various internet sites as he toyed with a new career in worldwide sports media. he wasn't bad too.. he would press flesh and use his slimy charm to get well known boxing figures to post on DHB such as David Haye, Frank Maloney, Chris Aston etc. Usually warrnted/unwarranted abuse would fall on the ears of said boxing celebrities from the patrons of DHB. but fair play to Spud, he would lick the rectums of the boxng world enough to get them to come in and speak to us.

We repaid Spud by being naughty with his guests! And now Spud hates us! and Ben Carey!
