Probably because he had the shit strap commonly known as the WBU title where mandatories and even fights are dirty words.

He unfied the IBF & WBA in his next fight after beating Tszyu, then moved up to Welterweight, beating Collazo for the WBA title. He then moved back down to Lightwelter, winning the IBF from Urango, before being stripped shortly after for refusing to fight N'dou.

As I said, he never held any of these titles long enough to fight a mandatory

Why bother fighting Urango for his old belt back though If he gave It up though?

He wasn't told until after the fight that he would be stripped if he didn't accomodate the winner of N'dou-Rabbah. He chose to fight Castillo, and was duly stripped.

No he wasn't ,he was just another handpicked opponent for Calzaghe,it was the same Mkrtchian,whom has lost by ko to Denis Inkin,the same Inkin whom was not good enogh to meet Calzaghe,thats why Calzaghe was stripped from his IBF-belt

I just think Joe is a bit of a Sven Ottke character in many other countries eye's.

Yes, he is undefeated, but is widely regarded as 'stay at home Joe'

I just don't buy the 'Hopkins avoided me' - Joe wasnt a name and only become kind of one after defeating American poster-boy lacy.

I just cant buy the fact that all these fighters like Hopkins, Taylor, Winky, Roy Jones, Tarver etc have all managed to fight one another - and yet Joe didnt get a single slice of one of them ?

Apart from Glen Johnson - whom he was slated after withdrawing from something like 3 proposed fights with him.... especially after he KO'd Jones

If Joe wins in style and has a big fight stateside he'll redeem his entire career - i just hope that's the case because if he don't he will have not taken full advantage of his natural talent, which is without question and we'll never know how far he could have gone.

Here's hoping that whomever wins, they go on to knock out Hopkins next.

As for the fight - i shall be in the best seat in the house... my setee

I'm not trying to turn this into a Calzaghe slanging match but the one defence that always grated with me was Kabary Salem. Salem was coming off a loss to Mario Veit...and we all know the story with him.

Before the Salem fight Calzaghe said and i quote "He's a good fighter and deserves his chance..." but he won't win etc. Nonsense.

Because a belt = more money, and a bargaining chip.

But that's not the issue. The issue was Calzaghe defending against only two mandatories in TEN years! To compare him to Hatton in this respect is laughable. I'm not commending Hatton's belt chasing, but I bet if he held a title (that enforced mandatories) for ten years, he'd have defended it against more than two mandatories.
