You're right, Harry, a talent like Jimi's would definitely have been recognised with or without Chas. He'd already created a bit of a stir as guitarist with the Isley Brothers. He'd started creating his innovative guitar sounds even then. That was when the Isleys were a 3-man (3 brothers) vocal group. They were later joined by 2 more brothers and a brother-in-law who were non-singing musicians. The guitarist, Ernie Isley, was heavily influenced by Hendrix. Listen to tracks like "Summer Breeze".

Coincidentally, did you know that The Animals' arrangement of House Of The Rising Son (although credited to Alan Price - a fact disputed by the other band members who feel they should have shared the credit) was based on a previous version by a folk/blues artist called JOSH White!

Bobby Womack was a good guitarist. And a tremendous vocalist too.

I didn't I know its better than the Bob Dylan version though, much like hendrix's version of all allong the watchtower.

It was my understanding that House of the rising sun was origonaly writon from the perspective of a woman though.

gipsies tramps and thieves is a brilliant song. albert collins is a great player. ernie isley plays his butt off on summer breeze (long version). bobby womack is immensely talented. all these comments are proof that the majority of the posters on this forum come close to having the vast musical knowledge that i have accrued over 75 years of listening experience.
