No matter what you think of Hatton, the majority reasons for him avoiding Witter are money.
If you think he really fancied beating Mayweather but dodges Witter just because he conceives that he may lose is mad. There's a balance of risk against reward, same as anything in life. Granted, Hatton runs a risk of losing against Witter, but for little reward. Lose that fight and it's effectively a career ender - he may not fear losing but sensibly the better decision is to chase bigger paydays before taking the Witter fight. He certainly had a much greater chance of losing the Mayweather fight, but the reward dictated he took it anyway. Keep the two in mind, why would Hatton then dodge Witter 'cause he's scared of losing'!!!???
Junior hasn't excited me in the main, has shown skills and flashes of brilliance but it's only the Harris win that has got people calling for Hatton to take the fight. Many other performances of Witter's have been poor entertainment, it's as simple as that. We all know he has some serious talent, but he's a long way off having the complete package and has underperformed a lot more than people conveniently forget. Maybe time to start appreciating why Hatton is where he is and able to dictate who he fights, and why Witter has to call Hatton out. That's not by chance - Hatton wasn't in the same category as Mayweather and had to do the same.
I understand that people will retort 'but Mayweather took the Hatton fight when Ricky dodges Witter' - but surely this is where the money vs risk balance kicks in. Mayweather had less chance of defeat against Hatton but was always guaranteed a massive payday because of Hatton's following.
I don't think the top boxers dodge fights because they think they'll lose, I think they just want to earn as much money as possible for the least risk, but bet your bottom dollar which criteria comes highest.

Further to that, when we're talking money we have to understand the PPV market in the US guarantees that Hatton gets a bigger purse for big fights over there.
Witter is now a bigger fight cause of the title and also Hatton coming off a defeat, but he'll want a bigger slice of the pie too, and taken out of a UK market only fight. That's how I see it.
If I was planning Hatton's career close, I'd take Rees (low risk, moderate reward with WBA title), Malignaggi (medium risk and medium-high reward based on US tv finance) and finally, with the pie-proportion back in Hatton's favour, thus increasing his share of the cake, Witter (high risk, medium reward). Then retire, cause you're far too fat between fights.

AFTER £/$£20M IN HIS LAST FIGHT I THINK HATTON CAN GIVE THE FIGHT THE PUBLIC WANTS TO THE PUBLIC.
I DO NOT CARE FOR THIS TALK OF THE AMERICAN MARKET.
THE MANS RICH BEYOND HIS WILDEST DREAMS AND HE WILL STILL EARN £MILLIONS AGAINST WITTER.
WITTER STOOPS HIM AND SO WHAT IF WITTER GETS A CAREER BEST PURSE? - WHY DOE S HATTON CARE SO MUCH?
THE GUYS AN ARSE.

Ricky Hatton has made a fortune - Billy Graham has said He doesnt need any more money never mind Ricky - OK, I will be the first to admit Ricky was right to ignore Witter and take the big money fights, any fighter would have - Now he is loaded he either needs to quit because of his health or give his loyal fans who have spent thousands over the years to see him live, the fight they most want to see - The risk factor definately did matter once, he was pursuing a career and trying to make a lot of money - He has done that now and word has it he may retire at 30, thats apparently what his family want - I believe I am right in saying he is 30 this year so time is running out - Dont make excuses for him, he makes enough for himself - If Ricky wants to leave boxing as a hero of the working classes, fighting Witter is the way to do it - Claiming you are one of the lads, just an ordinary guy (with millions in the bank) isnt easy for him - He should do this for the fans who have to save to see him fight, ordinary working class people who Ricky claims to be - Sod the rewards he doesnt need them and if he goes for even more money rather than fight Witter, he is a greedy bastard and the "one of the lads" image is just total nonsense - If he is top let him prove it and win and he will definately get his legacy.

I agree totally, the 'prove he's one of the lads' thing is rubbish.
No matter how much money someone's got, they'll always want more, that's just a fact of life. If you have £50m in the bank, and two fight options in front of you, one worth £10m and one worth £4m, you'll still take the higher payer every day of the week.
I think if you couple that mindset with the fact that everyone seems to be overrating Witter in terms of the 'biggest fight out there' - it's obvious why the fight may not happen.
If Hatton wants to prove he's the best and make a legacy, why wouldn't he be looking to get Mayweather (again) or Cotto in the ring before looing at the Witter fight?
I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to see Hatton v Witter, I'd love it and think it is a big fight in UK terms, but it must gall Hatton that he felt like he was breaking the top league of PBF, DLH, Mosley etc and now he's back to a UK fight vs Witter, who is getting hyped because he beat Harris??? Half of you on here knock Hatton's victories over Castillo and Tszyu and then praise Witter to the hilt for one quality performance. I try hard not to be biased, the fight would be a good one and I do rate Witter, but clearly not as much as a lot of people here who are demanding this fight happens.

Watching Witter's counter punching and KO's Is much better than watching Hatton's reckless pressure rough housing style which Is cheating.
People thought Hatton lost because Floyd's the p4p best but If Hatton was really that good, he would of put up a better fight his style Is only suited to lightweights and limited fighters his own size.
Boxing fans should appreciate skill as well.

Hatton DID lose because Floy'd the best P-4-P, although Hatton cameup short against him it was only Mayweather's skill that took advantage of Hatton's style deficiencies. That Hatton's style is pretty one dimensional doesn't take away the fact the PBF is a top drawer fighter. How do you think Witter vs Mayweather would pan out??
Please don't try telling me that Tszyu (even a dwindling one) was more limited and smaller than Witter - my point being that Hatton's style, limited to smaller and limited fighters, would do for Witter. If Junior was a welter who was trying to come down you'd have a point, but he isn't, he's natural lt.welter and Hatton is much the bigger man in terms of on the night weight. On your estimate then Hatton would beat Witter.
And earlier when I referred to Hatton feeling like he was on the fringes of the big league, one defeat to Floyd wouldn't send me back to the drawing board with domestic fights. Like it or not, Hatton got his shot at the next step up by fighting a name in Las Vegas in Castillo (who's now considered over the hill because he took a comprehensive defeat). What can we say for Witter? He beat (albeit impressivley) Harris at the Doncaster Dome. Are we so naive to think that these lads go to work for a different reason than the rest of us? ££££££.
If boxing fans want to see Witter so much, why isn't he fighting bigger names at bigger venues? The fights are out there and there's nothing to stop them being made. And please please don't tell me he can't get the big match ups because he's too good, that's absolutely ludicrous - Mayweather seems to get enough big names to fight.

And also "watching Witter's counter punching and KO's is better than watching Hatton's 'cheating'" - OK Witter does have some classic boxing skill I admit. But he's got 58% KO's compared to Hatton's 75%. Don't start thinking that Witter's been banging people out all his career - he's done it in flashes, and been involved in a LOT of turkeys along the way. Hatton's roughhousing isn't classical but it's exciting and that's why he's a bigger draw...consistency.

He is the bigger draw BECAUSE FWANK PROMOTED him well and he has the Football fan and casual no nothing about boxing brigade behind him.
Hatton is a good fighter but OBVIOUSLY effectove against smaller older men.
ANYTIME HE FOUGHT SOMEONE HIS OWN SIZE HE STRUGGLED regardless of their skill level!
Collazo - Urango etc etc.

Hatton was outclassed because he had no game plan and was shown how good he really Is. If he simply just lost a close one, then It could of been said because Floyd Is p4p no 1.
I think Witter would lose a decision to Floyd, just simply out boxed due to Floyd being faster. He wouldn't go like Hatton did.
Tszyu was picked at the right time and was an Inactive champion, fighting once a year even when healthy. How Is Tszyu made out to be a legend?
What estimate are you talking about? Witter Is as big as Hatton and I said fighters who can fight back as well and I said anyone his own size he struggles with. Witter woud counter punch Hatton's head off.
Hatton can be a natural welter too, he goes Into the ring weighing a light middle. He's not at any size disadvantage like he makes out and Floyd used to be a super feather. They made out the weight wasn't a problem and then he lost, there liars.
Most proper fans knew Castillo was over the hill and picked at the right time, he struggled with Ngoujo and some thought Herman nicked It. The pro Hatton huggers favoured Harris to win that fight, proper fans were neutral or went for Witter.
Just because someones a smaller name or doesn't draw money doesn't mean they should avoid him, Hatton doesn't need the money, he's a multi millionare already and hasn't worked as hard as Witter.
Witter's avoided because he can make a fighter look awful and Is too good , difference with Floyd Is he's American and draws big money and Is p4p no 1 so they'll fight him. Thats why Floyd gets the fights while Junior doesn't.

Turkeys? Isn't that how Ricky got his shot against Tszyu by fighting them at the Men.
Witter got to world level the hard way winning the Brit, Comm and Euro titles and wasn't tempted to easier routes because of money. Thats something to admire more than what Hatton's done.

Hatton outweighed PBF by at least 7lbs on the night!
What HATTON meant to say was
'I just lost bwecause he is better than me and I could nt bully him the way I do ALL THE OTHER Smaller men I have fought.
REMEMBER THIS - HATTON HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE HEAVIER MAN ON FIGHT NIGHT - HE EVEN OUTWEIGHED COLLAZO.

hatton is massively overrated, i mean look at his record before he beat tszyu, the best fighters he went in with were a 38 year old freddie pendleton, a 39 year old vince phillips and the tough but massively overrated ben tackie.
he beat an old inactive kostya tszyu who even in his prime wasn't as good as people make him out to be. then he beat an old castillo who again was inactive and best known for his losses to mayweather and corrales rather than great victories.
