being a journalist, maelstrom, i sometimes write journalese. the opening paragraph about Martin Fry, a sheffield lad, calling himself a one trick pony, linked in with the whole tenet of the piece; that of ingle being another one trick pony. it also helped me to end the piece nicely by using the ABC tie in.
i can spot a good argument when i see one and the deserter post among others - against my position - was a corker. i dont mind admitting when i have overstated my dislike for the ING dynasty style or even when i am wrong. i cannot prove that brendan didnt actually sit down at a desk with his proteges to teach them how to write but my feeling is that his influence was more of a motivator to the youngsters than a pen pusher.
its just a pity his skills in motivation didnt stretch to the later rounds of witter v bradley the other night.

i have no vendetta. this is an opinion based forum. a place where personal opinions are the lifeblood of the website.
you are welcome to post threads declaiming the greatness of the ING dynasty. this one happens to posit an opposing view.

Are you a boxing journalist, Harry or a journalist "in general".

i have had very little boxing stuff published, sorry to say.
gardening magazines and architectural journals are my mainstay here and in europe. though i do receive income from dramatic works written in the distant past.
thank you for asking.

Ingles are basically getting kids in their gym from the age of 8-17 and are all being brain washed that they will become world champions and should turn pro at 18. Thats not pen pushing. They are helping people for their own benefit because they will gain more in the long run.

Harrygreb, I was trying to be polite, but then you go on to partronise people who just don't happen to agree with you.

You start with some post written in a style that I can only assume you think was clever, including the tenous link in the first line. It wasn't clever, it just smacked of someone trying to impress.

Then you denigrate everyone who brings up a valid point against you. I am ABSURD am I for stating that the Ingles have helped people learn to read? You need to find out the FACTS before you start slinging mud.

Then when people start pulling your argument apart you claim victory by saying what a great thread you started.

You continue to get more exposed and then slate someone at the possibility you should change your position, when in fact that should be the honourable thing to do now you are in the possession of more facts.

Get over yourself and get over this hatred of this Ingles.

Ironically, I am actually not their greatest fans, but I can see beyond my personal opinions. If you contribute even 10% to society that either John, Dominic or Brendan has then I will AMAZED.

They have taken hundreds, yes hundreds, of kids from nothing and given then discipline, self-respect and targets. They have helped a hell a lot of fighters completely over achieve.

As I said earlier. That has to be what training is about.
Exellent post. Ludicrous to try undermine everything they have achieved both from a social and a boxing point of view. I enjoy the unorthodox they bring to the sport, love the way they promote confidence in their fighters, which sometimes sees the emergence of super entertainement like Naseem.

xiene,
I very rarely reduce myself to the level of gutter posting, but let me go on record as saying you are are complete and utter knob.
You clearly feed off rumour and inuendo.
Now let me see - a mass of 7 posts in total, then you suddenly surface.
What exactly is your agenda against the Ingles ?

i foresee the end - not of the ING dynasty this time - of the spacing students are asked to do when writing their essays. the amount of extra paper used (and wasted) in applying the practice will eventually attract the attention of the environmental fascists and that will be that.

This thread is getting a little bizarre.

I posted several pages ago on this subject but agree the Ingles have done a lot for the sport.

But Brendan's corner work is ridiculous. I have to agree with that.

Witter v N'Dou is a great example, and Naz v pretty much everyone he fought while with Ingle after the Badillo fight.

Was it v Johnson that he told him to use the jab like he had in the Badillo fight at the end of every round!

He seems a decent fella though, as does Dominic. They don't deserve some of the harsh criticism they've had on here.

I for one enjoy watching the Ingle style. Although of course it isn't perfect and there are more safer and indeed cavalier approaches to the sweet science.

Success breeds success and the Ingle's have drawn their talented fighters from all over the place. Pickering - Newark, Witter and Siddique - Bradford, Graham and Amar - Nottingham etc all arrived wanting to learn the Ingle style, their choice. Also though the amount of Sheffield kids who have been helped by the stable is incredible.

Also, if you think of the lineage of Sheffield boxing Brendan sits at the top of the family tree with stables such as Glyn Rhodes and Dave Coldwell now successfully doing well on their own after starting out at Wincobank. Therefore their influence is far reaching and will be long lasting.

Anyone thinking the end is nigh for the Ingles - they're 'gonna shot that poison arrow through your heart' when the next generation come through.

well, the songs of ABC do not yield many opportunities for decent tags for boxing threads, so i hold my hand up and say "good effort, that man"
good points about the dynasty, too. brendan is well liked for his devotion to helping kids through boxing and although my crit was tough, even i give him credit for all he has done. i wont regurgitate any of the pops i have had at him, theyre getting a bit "thread"bare.

And as for their corner work, I just see 'the look of love' (that's what you get when you encourage me  )
