I'd like to know who these clueless presenters are now... I'm not sure if Glyn is referring to the guy who did the preview show for the Lockett specifically or just general the setanta presenters. Surely though, Dempsey now has some idea about the sport.

With regards to naming names on who I think could do a could job.... well, I don't know what he looks like and whether he'd have the "X factor" on screen - but I could listen to Bob Mee talking boxing all day.

Dempo's OK but he doesn't do the bog standard shows, he's a 'big gun' they roll out for the big events and only very occasionally

Did I say being the British Bert was good? You present it like it's something positive. I was referring to a delivery style and persona choice, I passed no opinion on whether it was good or bad, just that it works for both of them. And I didn't say Bunce is fantastic, either. Just that he makes a better job of that show than anyone I can think of — the two things aren't the same.

Definitely, you seem to be getting off on the attention from one so great as I — the tonnes of reflected glory might go to your head.

Glad that we've got some insight into Setanta's cheap and cheerful presentation. I actually think the Sky shows from the 90s were better produced with the leering, ginger haired cockney and Gary Mason's "Where's my effing tie" episode.

Sky are so much slicker and more professional these days, but they don't provide the fights we want - certainly not ones that are both live, and international. Setanta seem to cut the corners, but by heck they bring the good fights, and the deals with Warren, Arum AND Haye are welcome.

If Bunce keeps this up any longer, getting all these close ups and monologues, he'll be in Hollywood next LOL.

Re the timing issue - I can't believe when the feed "went" during Barrera-Pac II that they cut back to the studio just as Buncey yelled out! Though I thought they caught a beautiful, unaware close up of Enzo Mac's face after Haye's post Mormeck KO interview. That was the best "unaware close up" since Burt Lancaster's dinner table scene in THE GYPSY MOTHS (a great, small town skydiving drama from the '70s, the widescreen camera catching the side of BL's face while he thought he wasn't being filmed)...You could just see Mac sulking as he muttered something that probably wasn't very nice.

It is often funny when you get hold of an old studio tape of this or that fight. When you can hear what the big name presenters are really like when they think no one - apart from their producer etc - can hear them.

Gary someone, wasn't it? And he was mockney, not cockney. Went on to do golf and fishing on Sky. What was his bloody name though?

I liked Gary Norman too. He used to produce the Ringside show on sky as well as present it.
He wasn't the slickest but he clearly loved the sport.
I guess when sky invested ££££ on bringing in Warren/Naz they figured they better up the quality of production/presentation.

That Ringside show was good. It had a certain charm to it. When I was at school, a mate of mine used to tape me the boxing around the mid 90s. I wish Sky showed as much boxing now as they did then.

You could probably draw parallels between Sky then and Setanta now, down to Norman and Bunce. Norman definitely earned his corn even if he could be a little over the top with his style, similar to Bunce now. Setanta definitely runs on tight budget at the moment and will continue to do so until it bags the amount of subscribers it needs, which was probably the case with Sky at first and the reason why Norman was a bit of a one man band.

I must admit I don't understand why some people have got a downer on Steve Bunce. He's a passionate advocate of the sport we love and while he can undoubtedly rattle on a bit I love the fact he so clearly cares about boxing and champions its cause at every given opportunity. OK, he's a 'character', so I can understand that he may rub some people up the wrong way, but give me that over some bland presenter who clearly doesn't have any genuine interest in boxing any day of the week.
