Overrated. One of the most exciting light heavies if not the most exciting, but far from one of the best.

Despite getting deserved recognition at Middleweight, Mickey Walker is still somewhat underrated. This is a guy who was not only a World Class MW, but also a World Class Welterweight, Light Heavyweight, and easily a Top 10 Heavyweight for a couple years (Ring had him at 5 in 1931) That's pretty impressive when you consider that Walker was only 5-7 and beat HW's who sometimes had 20. 30 and 40 lb weight advantages.

I'll say "overrated". One great performance against Simon Brown should not have instantly propelled him into the top of the P4P rankings. In his previous fight against an elite-level fighter, he looked totally overwhelmed against Meldrick Taylor.

Next up: Henry Armstrong as a welterweight.

Good one!

Over-rated. Had he beaten Zivic in the trilogy I would probably sway to under-rated, it's that close for me, but I think he was past his prime by a few years by then.

Benny Lynch.

I think overrated. He was like a flyweight Tyson. His reputation is based mainly on the ferocity of his performances rather than who he beat, and the fact that he was the first fighter to unify the titles in his division in some time. Even if you judge him only from his brief "prime", I think it's still questionable if he did enough to prove he deserves to be rated alongside the best flyweights ever. As far as his style goes, he showed obvious talent, but also seemed a bit wild and reckless in his attacks.

Next up: Jeff Fenech.

On the one hand Fenech did win multiple title belts, though not against particularly impressive competition. And he fought a great fight the first time against Azumah Nelson. However, if you balance that with the 2nd Nelson fight, the losses to Calvin Grove and Philip Holiday, it doesn't seem that he had that great of a career.

Slightly Overrated.
Next choice: Marvin Johnson.

Fenech was shot when he fought Grove and Holliday.Surely anyone following boxing at the time knew that.

Yes I was follwoing boxing at the time and no I don't remember anyone saying Fenech was shot before the Grove fight. You can make a case for the Holiday fight.

If he was shot at that young of an age and that few of a number of fights, he probably shouldn't be rated that highly. Grove himself was older and had many more fights than Fenech when they fought.

I like Johnson and think he was a very good exciting fighter, but I have to rate him a little overrated on the basis of his name occasionally being mentioned as being HOF worthy. Johnson had one really big win vs Galindez, and a few others that were pretty good i,e Eddie Davis, Parlov, Stewart, but he noticeably came up short against his highest level competition.

Definitely overrated IMO.

He was supposed to be one of the best P4P fighters in the world, when Richie Sandoval completely outclassed him. I understand that Sandoval was an underrated fighter (he never got his shot to prove himself in the Olympics, when the US boycotted it), but Chandler spent almost the whole fight just standing there perplexed, and complaining to the referee about fouls. Chandler's defense and power were overhyped IMO.

NEXT UP: Carlos Zarate.

Underrated. Zarate began his career by knocking out about 30 stiffs and bums, yet when he began facing quality opponents, those guys didn't last much longer. Of Zarate's 4 losses, 3 came against Hall of Famers, and another guy who might be borderline, and that fight could have gone either way. Two of those losses also came when he was well past his best.

Davis was vastly overrated up until his loss to Joe Manley. He was a good slick boxer with fast hands, but he was seriously lacking in punching power and had a poor chin. After the Manley fight it was pretty much accepted that he wasen't going to come anywhere near the lofty expectations predicted for him.

Underrated. He held Marvin Hagler to a draw, after all. Hagler moaned and groaned about the verdict but Hagler moaned and groaned even when he won. It was a tough, close fight, and Vito fought out of his skin. OK, Minter then beat the Italian-American (twice) but Minter is underrated himself. Vito was tough and clever. He was good.

Dennis Andries is slightly underrated IMO, especially by us Brits.

The way how he got his career back on track after the shellacking that Hearns gave him must be worthy of praise.

He was a tough guy with a big heart.

Lindell Holmes?

Re: New Game-Overrated or Underrated

by Seamus
This is a tough one to answer. Lindell Holmes was a MW prospect expected to have some degree of success, but he hardly set the division on fire. After 4 losses, 3 of which were by KO, he was pretty much written off as a contender. But then he moved to SMW and surprisingly redeemed himself a bit by beating several credible opponents and taking one of the alphabet belts. So my best answer would be Overrated at MW due to his inability to meet expectations, and Underrated at SMW for surprising a few people.

Eder Jofre is probably the most underrated fighter ever!!!

I believe that he is a top 5 ATG for sure, yet he rarely gets mentioned high up in fight fans ATG lists.

A fantastic fighter for a long time & even managed to return to action well past his best & dominate again.

Only Fighting Harada had his number throughout his career.

He probably doesn't get rated so highly because he suffered from Roy Jones Jr Syndrome - (an inability to find his passprt, an inability to locate an airport & an inability to recognise an aeroplane :TU: )!

Under-Rated IMO.

He never recovered from his loss to Berbick, and losses to Guys like Tyson and Holyfield were expected.

Still, i believe he had the tools, especially his Jab and a very very under-rated Chin to go far, and had be fought today, he'd clean up the Division quite easily, especially the 79-85 Version.
