No idea on that front.
Did you see his wife and kid crying? why people bring their kids to fights is beyond me.
What kid wants to see daddy get mashed down?
Oh well, his wife was cheering and so happy in the first few rounds, all changed.
Cotto marks up and swell badly - especially his mouth.
You were blessed to be there!

Tough to call. Margarito only seems to be beaten by southpaws who can box. Cotto just couldn't do it for 12 rounds.
If you're a betting man, have a look at the odds for Clottey. Judah was at the fight and partying, so not sure he's taking his training that seriously.

5/1 in Vegas. 66/1 for the KO in that round.

My mate won 660 quid on the night, got ridiculous odds for Margarito rounds 9-12. When you consider Margarito's style, that's insane, he is always going to be coming from behind against a lot of top class fighters.

That's sick, does anyone know what the round odds were for those rounds with english bookies? just so I can curse the missed opportunity a bit more.
For whoever mentioned judah/clottey, when the fight was signed I just assumed Judah would be favourite and I was going to lump on Clottey but Clottey is actually 2/5 fave or something... the bookies obviously think Judah is in trial horse mode.
I still think Clottey will win and maybe by late stoppage.

Margarito would not be denied, he just kept coming forward for every second of the rounds, his mental as well as physical pressure caught up on Cotto. I think Margarito's bodyshots took a lot out of Cotto as well. It wasn't as good as we expected it to be but still a damn fine fight.
I expected Cotto (after a mid-fight lull) to take over again and finish strongly, but Margarito's pressure just forced him to effectively say "no mas".

Cotto could definitely win a rematch. I thought his tactics were spot on apart from not using body shots. There is no way Margarito is getting hurt to the head and Cotto headhunted the whole fight. Big mistake I think.
But mix in a few body shots, take away the broken nose and Cotto has every chance in a rematch I think.
Great fight.

Cotto should wait til Margarito loses and then beat the man who beat Tony. Best way to get back on top. Can Tony keep walking through massive shots as he has in the last 2 fights? He's had a bleeding long, hard career.
If Margo keeps winning, I think Cotto will convince himself that he can win. And we'll see another epic that will probably finish both men's careers.
Cotto's admitted he couldn't use body shots because he couldn't see any openings. Tony must have been just guarding his body, not his head.
Cotto's cornerman said the nose made it hard for him to breath, but that a fifth rd left uppercut did the damage and that the body shots wore Cotto down.

I think that perhaps we are all underestimating the effects of the clash of heads which broke Cotto's nose and caused blood to flow into the mouth continuously.
Cotto appeared rattled by this, and this could well account for the fading of stamina after the 5th round.
Even though bashed up and hurt, Cotto put in a good 10th round, I rewatched it, and I actually gave him the 10th, though it was very close.
I think that a rematch could be different, though it's always going to be a hard fight, but I think perhaps we are all writing off Cottos chances too much.

How do you know a head clash broke Cotto's nose? Cotto's nose was bloodied from punches in round 2 and - I think - 5.
As I keep saying, Cotto's cornerman admitted that a Margarito uppercut caused the nose damage and that the body shots helped weaken Cotto.

Right, well if that's what his cornerman said, then fair do's. I was just recalling the moment in the 5th when Cotto seemed to get butted right on the nose, and blood started flowing excessively.

Nickd you're right about Cotto neglecting the body. I noticed that after he rattled Margarito with a head combination in the mid-rounds (which had virtually no effect) and wondered why he wasn't hurting the body and investing for the later rounds. James, yes, the broken nose too was a big factor i forgot to mention.

You could probably take a bat to Margarito's head and he'd shake it off. Body shots would probably have slowed him down in the later rounds when Cotto needed a respite.

Can't believe this - best I could find was 2-1 online at 30 or so bookies. Or do you mean just KO?

I think that Cotto couldn't really mount a body attack, as going to the body means planting the feet, which in turn would have given Margarito the chance to throw shots of his own.
One of Cotto's weaknesses was that on the inside, he was relying on movement to avoid Margarito's shots, rather than a water-tight defence. As the fight Wore it meant he didn't have the energy to avoid those shots.
Cotto moved well, but he's not naturally fleet-footed, and thus he tires.
Cotto has said he will fight again this year. A good sign, let's see if he wants a rematch.

Margarito is a funny boxer really, his style looks easy to beat, but he's just so damn tough. His defence looks open, he throws wide punches , loops his uppercuts. Should be easy to get a boxer to just keep tight defense and outbox him. But it's not easy.
saying that though, I love the left uppercut that Margarito throws, you don't see many boxers try that one, he really gets alot of power into it.
Plus he seems a genuine guy, doesn't go in for the bad mouthing to much, i prefer those type of boxers.

Awesome fight. It had everything you could hope to see.
There are not enough words to praise Margarito for his super human effort. I thought he'd lost the fight in the 5th when Cotto seemed to have it all worked out, but his tremendous 7th round was something else. This is what top champions do...they find a way to win no matter what. I think for a tall guy Antonio stuns his opponents not only with his all out agression, but with his long body and arms, he also shocks them with his ability to work up close so effectively. It's so hard to find an escape route for 12 rounds.
I can only marvel at the pair of them. When Margarito finally battered Cotto to defeat i was just stunned into silence for a minute or so. Just a breathtaking spectacle.
How many times will we watch this fight again I wonder? If you're looking for a bit of boxing inspiration this will be the first DVD I will reach for

Was far from easy for Williams. His legs looked shaky and the famed 100 punches a round southpaw looked exhausted over the 2nd haf.
A rematch will be hard for both men. However, what if therematch carries on exactly where the 1st fight left off, with the Mexican piling on the pressure?
Pac v Morales 1 and 2 could be an interesting comparison. Pac left it too late in fight one, and may have been losing belief...until Morales messed about, left himself open to get stunned. Pac started the rematch pretty much where the 1st fight ended, and he broke Morales down.
Margarito knows he can last the pace better than Williams now. He started the last 3 fights - Johnson, Cintron rematch, Cotto - very quickly.

I hope Williams goes up to 160 for Wright. If he wins, he'll come back down to unify with Margarito. He'll maybe be weakend Tarver (v Hopkins) style. (Williams even fights, looks a bit like Tarver...). If he's weakened coming down in weight, could be bad news for him in a drag out fight.
