Cant say i liked it much, there was the odd bit that looked ok but he was generally making himself look a bit of a tool in my opinion. When he had his hands on his hips doing some wierd little dance and jones caught him and he did it again and looked a bit shook i was thinking he was going to get sparked out whilst showboating.
Not really my cup of tea, i just feel like he overdid it.

I can understand why some people didn't like it - I would've hated it if he had done it against someone like Kessler and Lacy (because they seem like pro's even when beating their opponents) to the same level he had done it with Jones. I didn't mind it at all because Jones did it against inferior boxers - that to me showed disrespect. I am just glad that Jones now knows what it feels to be the receiving end - he probably feels humiliated like the vast majority of the guys/legends he has fought and hammered.
I am not a fan of showboating - I just liked Calzaghe's on Saturday, more so because of the opponent. If that makes sense?

So therefore you also dislike Calzaghe for doing it against Bika and others?

Just because I'm not a fan of it doesn't mean I dislike it - it's irrelevant to me as long as the result and the intentions are honorable. Bika is a horrible man and a dirty fighter - after Joe was cut it was probably a physiological thing to show he was still in-charge of proceedings. I actually can't seem to remember too much showboating in that fight but I will take your word for it. One thing I do know though is that it wasn't on the same level as the Jones fight - that is without doubt the most showboating Joe has ever done in a fight, arguably against the king of showboating. I had no probably with Joe doing it against Jones - like I have said, I loved it.

I found it immensely frustrating as it was wasting time when he could have been wearing Jones down. Roy was there for the taking from the seventh onwards but Joe spent so much time fannying around instead of punching that he let him off the hook.

I think the showboating helped put Jones in his shell, but even without it, Joe was unlikely to stop Jones. Joe just doesn't punch with enough authority anymore, and his honey punch, the left hook from the southpaw stance, is virtually non-existent.

Naz was a superstar due to showboating. I have no problem when it's incorporated into an active fight; i.e. not used to waste time. It can be an artform, too, as clips of Galaxy, Hamed, Jones and Mayweather confirm.
The annoyance is impotent showboating, done when no real risk is incurred.

Joe made the showboating look awkward. He had that look in his eye that sort of said "I'm privileged to be in a position to poke fun at you, so I'm gonna do it with some caution in a trite attempt at looking good!".
Joe, even when way on top against B-Hop and RJJ, looked slightly nervous and apprehensive. Not like the Lacy fight, where he just found a rhythm and went to work. What I'm trying to say is that his attitude, performance and body language don't always give the same (matching) story.

i didn't see any show boating against Hopkins. Mainly since he always got a right hand to the face when he tried dancing or whatever it was he tried doing.

Sorry, I wasn't particularly concise with my points. My mentioning of the B-Hop fight was more to do with the apparent 'nervousness'. I mean anyone with a brain should always be cautious of a dangerous opponent. But at times I just got the impression Joe was a little too nervy. Just going by body language and facial expressions during the fight. An observation on my part - it's certainly not solid facts.

Again I aint seen it, but heard about the showboating but won't comment, all I can say is that Roy did it against Trinidad in an attempt to steal some close rounds.....I found it disrespectful Roy's antics, but feel he did it to buy time.

Read that it did less than 230,000 PPVs. Sounds like Joe's got paid more than he's worth. Doubt there's any more of those senior bore fights for big $$.

The fight was a joke and it looks like the Americans agreed!
Joe should just retire now, he has his 0, all he wanted..leave it to the guys like Kessler and Dawson who dont seem afraid to lose(yes, he beat Kessler, just, but would Joe have gone to Denmark if their ages were reversed???)
And as for the showboating, Joe just looked a twonk...
Saying that, I think Joe should now dig up Archie Moore and Billy Conn, they are REAL legends!

loved the showboat at the end of rd 3.
avoided the 3 punches and did the hip swiggle.
he did go overboard at times though.

To be fair he went to Denmark and beat McIntyre (Who? Yes, I know), beat Veit in Germany, then he went to America and beat Hopkins and Jones.
So for him to be getting so much stick and Kessler to be lauded, when he beat Kessler quite comfortably, is a little unfair.

I think the point is being missed...if Joe had done that to RJJ a few years ago then he would be eating canvas from a lightning combo...Joe has aged well but he knew(as we all did) that RJJ was old and shot..so he showboats, classy Joe!!
We all remember his autobiography, saying Roy was shot...the man is taking you all for a ride..enjoy the trip!

You half admit it yourself, going to Denmark and beating McIntyre and beating Veit in Germany is hardly eart shattering....he went and fought the two americans when they were over the hill(sorry, RJJ is over the hill, Hopkins past his best)
He should have made the trips to America, FORCED these fights years ago, instead he says he's scared of flying, just like B.A Baracus..
If he went and lost, a la Hatton I would have so much respect for him..now he goes over when their time has passed and tells us he is a 'legend killer'
It annoys me

My thoughts exactly, I bet you Kessler has a cracking resume in a few years...

The showboating was all about trying to draw Jones off the ropes, anyone could see that. I think Calzaghe eased up on him in the last few rounds instead of batter up a legend.

You do realise Kessler just turned Dawson down don't you? He also turned down Miranda.

Yes, I read about Dawson, how Dawsons just so big at Light Heavy and the money is crap, I have to agree with his logic, theres being brave and then there is stupid..its a slightly differant scenario to Joe!
Hadnt heard the Miranda one, will look that up!

Kessler turned down Miranda because he wanted the WBA title. Abraham's moving up to super middle soon, so why not, say, wait for guy that beat the hell out of Miranda instead? Fighters turn down fights all the time, especially the wrong ones.
Turning down Dawson isn't anything to be ashamed of. Fight a southpaw faster, younger and more agile than Calzaghe, for his American debut, at a new weight... What does Kessler want with a light heavy belt when his stock is already going up at 168 (won his WBA title back; old victim Andrade robbed vs IBF champ Bute) and has loads of good challengers at his own weight, middleweight champs on the verge of moving up, plus 3 rival champs to gun for??
Besides, Dawson dumped his WBC belt in a move that kept him away from Daconu (small $$, away from home) AND a very tough Glen Johnson rematch. Now holding the IBF belt, he is going to avoid a fight with dangerous mandatory Tavoris Cloud, according to promoter Gary Shaw.
As ppl say on here, boxing isn't a schoolyard where ppl just call each other out and fight regardless. It's a business and has to make sense with gambles that are calculated.
Duck count: Dawson 3, Kessler 2, Joe Calzaghe...
