I didn't see the fight but sad to see that Lynes lost; always struck me as being a decent bloke and a hard working pro. I can't help but feel that it's a long way back for him now. :(

In this murky business, ex champions who are considered shot get a lot of title opportunities

Oh yeah, its not the end of Lynes' opportunities if he wants to continue. Maybe he could fight Barnes in a non title fight.... or even Olusugen for the Commonwealth or Hayward for the English title if he wants a straight forward comeback fight for a title.

I think he can beat a lot of come-forward fighters, he tee'd off on Young Mutley, for example, a big man.

I reckon he might need to look carefully for his next opponent though.

Getting onto the fight I was impressed with McCloskey. I only gave Lynes the first and the rest to Paul - I couldn't give Colin the 2nd even though he hurt McCloskey badly because Paul dominated the round before and after that punch had landed. Lynes did look old in there and very slow - he also didn't look patient. I thought he would took his time against a smooth counter-punching south-paw and make him come to him, instead of giving McCloskey chances to counter. I don't like how Colin's corner pulled him out too - that's twice he's been retired in the 9th by his corner now. I just feel that Colin could've hurt Paul again because he did have his hands very low and can be caught it patient enough. Perhaps they could've give it two or three more rounds.

I guess it's Barnes next for McCloskey now. I would favour Paul over David, especially with the latter's struggles to make weight - he's not once made it easily since moving down. It's just a shame Paul doesn't carry more power, but he's a talent.

It was technically a corner retirement again but like the Daws fight Lynes told them he couldn't go on.
They were trying to lift him up when he got back to the corner but Lynes had convinced himself he couldn't win and wanted a way out.
I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, Lynes is a commited professional who's fought to a very high level.........but he wanted out.

I didn't hear that, I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I just didn't hear it. I don't like fighters pulling themselves out of a fight when a major belt is on the line. I like Lynes but for him to do that twice now can only raise questions about his heart.

I saw McCloskey's fights against Bazan and another half decent Mexican earlier this year and he tends to make his opponents look ponderous.. I still believe Lynes has something left, I just think McCloskey's style frustrated the life out of him and broke his heart. Let's face it with his hands down defence someone is going to catch McCloskey and lay him out but he's fun to watch and there are some good fights at British and European level out there for him.

lol Mccloskey is in the xfactor crowd. One of the contestants Ooghan just said well done to my cousin for winning fight last night and camera panned round to him.

The impression I got was Mcloskey was blindingly quick with the counters. He could probably shift a few pounds too and he'd be even better at the lower weight.
I always rated Lynes and its hard to tell if he had an off night or PM was just far too good.

Just read that Lynes had two failed attempts to make the weight. Do you think this may explain why he looked out of sorts and tired?

Irish, I have no problems with the Irish at all - it's where you live now that justifies your swearing and insulting. At the end of the day, I got a few fight predictions wrong - it hardly makes me the second coming of Joseph Stalin, does it.
