Bookies are working on it.

They have the odds for an Enzo win and the draw, they just need to price up the odds of Enzo having a congenital heart defect moments before he enters the ring

He's 15th at Light-Heavy, which is probably how they'll justify it :(

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry watching the Sky sports countdown programme. They discussed the Enzo fight for about 10 minutes without actually spelling out the fact that they had no clue who the oponent was going to be.

Dave Clarke and Nicky Piper actually commented on how tough the fight would be!

I decided to cry.

Herbie Hide was offered the fight, he received the contracts which he agreed to as did his Promoter, although hadn't signed them. He called the Board and accepted the fight and told all that would listen what he was going to do to Enzo Maccarinelli. he even contacted and assured Robert Smith, Dean Powell and Andy Ayling that he wanted this fight and was happy to get the chance. He was told to go and get a weight check and had an appointment made for him in London to have this done - Job done, or so it was thought.

However, since then no one has seen or heard from Herbie Hide...He's disappeared and his phones constantly off - Hide has well and truely hidden.

So there you have it, check every Cruiserweight in the top 15 and see if they were contacted and they will all confirm they were.

Nextt hing you'll be blaming Warren for Bank's Ankle, Cooks Flu, Fosters Car Crash and Bendalls virus....it's all down to him isn't it!

You lot need to get a grip and learn a little of what you discuss. Billy Bessey should know better too, he's supposed to be a fighter and should appreciate injuries. His comments were stupid and
prhaps if he didn't come on here and slag of Promoters he might find he would earn a decent living instead of being selected as a fall guy in prizefighter.

Hennessy has had pull out as has every promter in the Country and proably every sport in the country it's/they are a fact of life so get over it. I wonder if Manchester United get all this shot when fans turn up and Rooney or Ronaldo aren't playing after sustaining an injury. I doubt it.
Boxingchat, I've got one genuine question in the wake of your response (which does have some valid points):
There's an old cliche that failing to plan is planning for failure. And given you/allegedly allegedly allegedly have prior experience of situations where shows can be badly damaged by a range of 'pull-outs', why do you not have a more efficient structure in place to deal with this scenario?
Those of us in business know there are occasions you simply can't legislate for, but equally, if there is a recurring situation that causes you problems you implement measures to ensure damage limitation at the very least.
For example, in the case of Enzo, why didn't you have a substitute lined up weeks in advance and with a fully signed contract so that if in the event that Banks dropped out, there was no need for a last-minute scrabble round as you'd planned for this potential eventuality and could just smoothly roll out the sub?
I'm sorry, but all the excuses start to sound a bit tired and lame given we've all been here so many times before. It's not a new situation so not having mechanisms in place to deal with it borders on the unacceptable... unless you can convince me otherwise.
You are absolutely right, but its probably all to do with money. Decent names will want decent money to be on call to fight if needed.
Does a PPV show not warrant paying decent money. If the punters are expected to shell out why can't the promoter?

Enzo will be 1/33 at best and probably 1/50, he can't lose to this guy and we all know it, forget the chin issue, its not going to be checked in this one.

Regarding some of the comments made by people on here, whilst I fully understand the problems of pull outs and how it affects everything, the thing that sticks in my craw is the lack of thought for the paying customer and I am not talking about the ppv people, I am talking about the 02 bound brethren.

Everyone and his wife knew Banks was out at the weekend, or Sunday to be exact but it was a couple of days before any announcement from anyone close to the fight about it.

Meanwhile the lesser spotted boxing fan who perhaps has a life and does not sit on here like us and aware of such things is happily booking tickets and hotels for a possible decent show or at least a reasonably competitive looking main event.

Still up even yesterday on FW Website was Banks as the opponent, whats that all about!

Add to that the Bendall/Smith thing, thats been off for quite a while as well.

Small has supposedly been going to box in a 12 round for a spurious WBA title and now he is in an eight rounder.

Now I am not on a total downer here, I know for a fact SN pushed for Hide and also another decent top 10 cruiserweight and almost got them but for christ sake start talking to your public guys and let them know the efforts you are making, not mentioning it when you finally announce a poor opponent, its just looks like excuses.

If you treat people like they don't matter then you have to be prepared to take the flak and thats something you are clearly not prepared to do.

Public relations wise its been a disaster for ages.

Its not rocket science we all know these things happen and if you kept everyone abreast of developments you would get a much better press, as it is you don't like us and we sure as hell have no respect for you.

Anyways thats my take, not going to make one shred of difference but its off my chest and now for what its worth, Maccarinelli KO2

SKY deserve everything they get. The greedy bunch saw the megabucks of Khan and pulled the promoter back on board despite a split a few years back mainly due to mismatches and lacklustre bouts. This is another Mohammed Azzaoui. Okay so it's short notice but still piss poor.

I'm sure Hide would have taken the job on?

I've been an editor for Boxrec for about seven years now and I must say this is the most ridiculous "title" fight I can remember ... at least since the WBC allowed Erick Morales to defend his belt against Eddie Croft. Not only is this guy 11-1, not only was he given the token random #15 rating, but he's a LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT. Good lord.

The Puerto Rican "Diablo" Francisco "Hellfire" Alvaez steps up against Welsh Master Enzo "Big Macc" Maccarinelli for the WBO World title. The stylish and popular central American will be bringing an impressive 11 win record to the ring, a staggering 9 of which have been by knockout. Maccarinelli is no stranger to knockout wins too, of course, so this should make an explosive contest. Not at ringside this evening will be Herbie "The Dancing Destroyer" Hide, who instead chooses to watch his friend battle out the first defence of his English title up the road in Nottingham. Boxing fans around the world will be keen to see how this shapes up. Hide, approaching 40, will be looking to make history by becoming a World Crusierweight champion after a double spell as Heavyweight World Champion during the 80s.

I am only going to order box office after the london card is over. I know it will not change anything but will make me feel better not supporting the piece of crap put together by Warren. I do feel sorry for everyone who has bought a ticket for this.

I used to go to a lot of shows but since Calzaghe's two cardiff bills i vowed never to go back to a warren show again. I love Joe but i convinced 8 of my friends to go on a weekend away to cardiff for the manfredo bill and we all bought near ringside tickets. They were not impressed and meant i took the girlfriend to Kessler, but after that undercard no more!!

Enzo's opponent for this bill looks no more challenging than Gunn or Azzouri (or whatever his name was).

Shame on everyone involved in putting this bill together.

Technically, you're still supporting it, though, aren't you? You might as well watch it and then write to Sky complaining about the quality of the opponents.

Does anyone know if Bunce commented on this today on the Boxing Hour. I saw the build up on Wednesday and Piper and the rest of them looked ridiculous discussing Macca's fight and not even mentioning that there is no opponent. Only Sky and the alleged one would treat the boxing public with such contempt. I hope Buncey put them bang to rights the bunch of amateurs and hype job merchants that they are.

Couple off good points raised here ,

1--- Banks had too pull out on short notice fair enough but the question still remains , WHY WAS'NT HE IN THE COUNTRY, do the bbbc have a ruling oversea's fighters should be here at least so many days before a fight . or was he going to fly in on the day.

2---Hide has a replacement ----boxing chat is quick too point out he is not returning calls bla bla bla , well its not his job TO STEP IN AND SAVE YOUR SHOW.iTS YOUR JOB TO HAVE INSURANCE AGAINST THIS ALA A REPLACEMENT ON HOLD

3--Alvarez jump in ratings ----Can that be done overnight or does it need time ,you know like time too discuss it , time to get it done , time for him to get here.

Definetly sounds like the usual , round and round the roses game people have come to expect.

Who's to blame One might say the promoter , personaly i don't, he's a buisnessman first and foremost and like ALL buisness men he's there too make himself has much money has possible.

The ones too blame are

1--- The bbbc for allowing this shite too go on

2--- Sky for charging monthly and then charging for shite like this ,, because ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT'S HAPPENNED, REGULAR.

3---THE MUGS WHO BUY IT.

Simple really don't go , don't buy it

But has i said in a previous post most boxing fans don't know shit from sugar they are OCCASION FANS so the ONLY ONES IN A REAL POSITION TO STOP IT ARE THE ....BBBC, Its up to them to get off there arses and do something about it.
