When I heard Ian Darke - who I have the greatest respect for, as I do Graham, obviously - compare the spectacle to Ali losing to Holmes I have to wonder. The difference for me is that Ali matched himself hard, against the best fighter in his OWN DIVISION, and it went wrong, whereas Oscar did the exact opposite, he gave himself every possible advantage and karma called hard.

100% correct.

The DLH hype is over and I am not sad one damn bit!

Sums up Oscar 'Chicken Tikka Anna Kournikova Hoya' in 1!

Cheesy fake arsed power hyped media creation.

Mosley is a REAL FIGHTER ( apart from the drug issue!)- does anyone think Anna Kournikova (DLH) would fight Margarito - a peak Forrest and Cotto?

No no no!

Good riddance Oscar - you fake bitch.

The picture claims that the likes of Hernandez, Leija, and Molina were not just outweighed but faded when DLH fought them. I disagree that they were faded, but were outsized.

My primary criticism of the article is the nothing that DLH didn't care, didn't really try just accepted defeat. There was no real proof of that. He didn't have it in him, doesn't mean he was happy with that.

Surely not Glyn, I cannot see people buying into Hatton v DLH right now, after a crushing defeat.

I agree that it probably isn't over - Oscar is an egomaniac, he will want to go out with a win - he'll probably have some sort of farewell fight - though considering he looked poor against Forbes and terrible against Pacman, hard to see who they could wheel out - Trinidad? Vargas, both are old and shot - and both need a payday no doubt.

Taking away media credentials - would never happen here of course - oh, wait a minute.......
Doesn't matter where taking away media credentials happens, it's wrong - but more so when some cheesy grinned fake nice guy does it. At least a real promoter will c*** you off to your face and you can have a row with them.

Re Oscar-Hatton, it's not about people James, it's about HBO and an event. Oscar's apologists are out in force already - 'he was drained, he made the weight wrong'. And maybe that's the truth! And let's face it, if people paid in their droves to watch Manfredo and Lazcano, even the ghost of De La Hoya could be considered marketable. Bit of spin, nice 24/7, yeah, that could work.

Fact is even before the fight Oscar was talking about Hatton at Wembley, win or lose. My take on PBF announcing his comeback on the very same day Arum was hinting at Hatton-Pac is that Floyd wants Pacman (and the P4P title again). Neither is hooked up to Golden Boy, it is a mega, mega fight from which they would take all the money, no grafter for Shafter and the boys.

Ricky, meanwhile, is already in bed with Golden Boy, under contract, making Hatton vs the 'rejuvenated' Oscar a natural. Oscar wants to fight in a big outdoor event and there isn't one on offer in the US. Same can be said for his buddy Hopkins, that's why Calzaghe will fight him in Cardiff, despite the first fight being as boring as hell.

It's not about people, it's all about GBP and HBO - what they want goes. They have already proved they believe bums on seats to be old school. If GBP can get the backing of HBO for a fight, it's a done deal.

And don't forget the way the ignorant national press in this country talked up Calzaghe's win over Shaun of the Dead Jones! Name recognition is worth far more than talent in this climate, sadly, and that is what GBP trades upon with it's roster of veterans.

Christ Glyn, you might be right, I really hope not, but I am probably discounting the overwhelming ignorance of the general public when it comes to boxing.

I recently had a conversation with a welsh bloke in the local boozer, going on about how much of a legend Cazlaghe was, and how his victory over Jones was 'amazing like' I soon set him straight on the reality of Calzaghe's 'legendary' career, and said in no uncertain terms, that his victory over Jones as a meaningless and cynical mismatch agaist the ghost of Jones Jr Past, and that Calzaghe was a massive twat for making the fight. His incredulity was palpable, and he was actually someone who considered himself a boxing fan.

I think Hatton himself wants Pacman - and that's the best hope we have for this fight not happening. I cannot see Oscar making 147 again though, or even wanting to try, and therefore what weight could they fight at, 154? Too much for Ricky, surely he's not going to go into a fight at that weight considering his poor showings at 147? Then again - its all about the money, so who knows?

Oh, and by the way, my take on Floyd is that he never intended to retire at all, but just couldn't be fooked to engage in anything other than megafights - which is compounded by the fact that he is a profligate spender, and is probably worrying about his bank balance, and is therefore thinking it's time to make 10 million dollars plus for a night and a training camp's work.

Graham is the Don - one of the best callers of fights I've ever seen. My mate is a professional gambler, and he always checks out Graham's piece before he lays his bet. Met him once also in the press section, and he was a lovely bloke who clearly was into the sport.

I used to hate it when you would see hacks in the press section who clearly didn't really give a shit about boxing - when you think how many other people out there who would love to be doing that for a living, it really grates.

James,

I think you are lucky - if you have met a Welsh boxing fan who you can actually convince about the meaning of victory Jones Jnr version 2008. I have there "its only 3 years between them", "he's younger than hopkins", "he's one dimensional", "weight is a ready made excuse" - they actually say I know jack about the sport.

On Floyd, I am not sure - I mean DLH vs Mayweather 2 was set apparently - why did Floyd retire, it was the biggest fight out there for him.

Maybe he couldn't get up for beating Oscar again? Not one for rematches, is he, Floyd. That's why I think the 'Hatton rematch' talk is a ruse, it'll be Pacman and then Margarito he's after - it's all about testing himself for Floyd and God love him for that. Mind you, hard to say how the credit crunch might have impacted on him, maybe even he has to think about rematches these days. Read today that even Lennox is concerned by it, and he's no spender in the PBF league (earned more than PBF too). Interesting times. So often you hear that this sport is dead only for it to shock us all.

Good to see you on here Glyn, but I disagree on Hatton.

Think Pacquaio will have too much for him and possibly even stop him late. The only guy I can se beating him between lightweight and welter is Floyd, if he ever comes back.
How do Hookie, hope life's good mate.

My doubt re Pacman is I need to see him hit regularly by a bigger guy. I thought he looked uncomfortable a couple of times in the last Marquez fight, a bit more so on the extremely rare occasions that Diaz connected, and Oscar connected even less than Diaz, and at a point when his tank was totally empty. I get the feeling that against Hatton we would see Pacman hit for the first time with any regularity by a bigger, stronger man, that's why I'd back Ricky in that one - it'll be a different ballgame to recent Pacman fights. He's gonna have to fight hurt, let's see what's like then. Diaz and Oscar were made for him, Hatton won't be.

To be fair though, he did rematch the only the fight deemed controvesial "Castillo" - the has been no need to rematch anyone else, and I for one (and I think alot agree) think the DLH fight was alot closer than the Castillo first fight.

I agree on the former, disagree on the later. I scored the rematch with Castillo very similar to the first fight - I was actually a tad surprised that US commentators didn't see that one controvesial, it was very similar.

Obviously Floyd rematched Castillo but that was in another lifetime, he's a far stronger market entity now - he's No. 1, does what he wants. Plus, regarding the Oscar rematch, he was never happy with his share of the moneys, considering he won the first fight. I think he was telling Oscar to go screw himself by 'retiring' when he did, telling him that while the rest of the boxing might dance to Oscar's tune, Floyd never would. A lot of politics at play here and now, with Pacman the winner over Oscar, we have a situation where the two No 1 contenders for P4P champ, Pacman and PBF, are not attached to GBP and can make a mega fight without GBP involvement - that's got to appeal to Floyd and to Pacman's promoter, Arum, who did all the hard work getting Oscar to the position he's in today.
