You just know, to get the almost superhumanly tough Mexican to that point, some serious damage to the head has to be inflicted.
I was just hoping the corner or ref would save him from a career ending beating in there, which they didn't. Fighters like Marg have to be saved from themselves sometimes.
Yeah, those shots Mosley hit him with were absolutely huge, some of the hardest punches I've seen from a welter for many years. Last guy I remember hitting that hard really was Hearns. Mosley was so fired up and ready to go to war, that he seemed to find more power in his ageing body than I've ever seen from him before.

He was just phenominal, I never would have believed it. This and the Oscar result were two of the most surprising outcomes in a long time.
I don't think Marg took him too seriously beforehand, but even if he had I doubt it would have mattered much. Mosley looked untouchable in there.

This was simply a fantastic performance by sugar shane. Marg was so easy to hit but the fast hands from shane would have caused anyone problems. I could not see ANY welter knocking out Mar never mind an ex lightweight! Some of these shots that Marg took were phenomenal - that right hand of mosley hit every time he threw it.

Its a shame about the BALCO scandal and IMO the whole "Mosley didn't know what he was taking" argument is just stupid. As good as Shane was his name is tarnished and maybe it is about time the boxing authorities starting investing more money into testing etc. and try and make it as difficult as possible for cheats to thrive in this sport.

Shane will earn loads of money and is a certain hall of famer but whenever his name is mentioned, drugs will be brought up - thats how his legacy will forever be.

Thought the ref was doing his best to get Marg killed in there, no way he needed to take all those final full blooded shots, it was obvious the man was done some time before..
Yes, the ref could have stepped in before than final salvo left Margarito sprawled helplessly on the floor.

To be honest, I think Tony's team might as well have pulled him at the end of the 8th - he was clearly walking out there to get stopped.
Call me sick but I do like to see a fighter go out on his shield, well ok I admit I like to see a proper break down KO. Marg wasn't completely in lala land though imo, he was taking a pasting but seemed as overwhelmed as anything. Plus you never know if a fighter can turn it round in the last few rounds

It wasn't like Whitaker-Hurtado, now thats some sick unnessary punnishment if you haven't seen it

Well all I will say is, whatever drugs Shane took, he is not alone, and drugs didn't make him a great fighter. I cannot think of anyone else around now who did what he did to Margarito.

That's how I feel or maybe Mayorga wasn't a shot fighter as many people claimed.

Think it's more a case of Mosley being able to raise his game to that level for a shot at his old 147 title, against a guy he knew he had more skills than.

I doubt Mosley will ever match that level of performance again.

Ironically most ppl thought he lost the DLH rematch anyway, even though he was "enhanced".

Even more ironic, Mosley has produced some of his better performances AFTER the drugs scandal, close rematch with Winky, 2 wins over Vargas, clinic over Collazo, close loss to Cotto, and the stoppage of Margarito.

James - the elite names on Margarito's resume are very limited. I think Trinidad, DLH (when both healthy at 147) and a fair few others would have bashed him. I think Forrest would have outboxed him. Spinks would have given him a good fight, maybe even Judah.

The onle "elite" name on Margarito's resume is Cotto.... I wouldn't say Cintron, Clottey (yet) can be considered elite. Very good yes, but not the multi weight, multi time champions of those above.

As for Mosley's drugs, well all Mosley has apparently testified that he took EPO in the DLH rematch, that doesn't mean he hasn't taken it before or since.

Lets not go down the route that EPO was a hinderance not an enhancer - okay I'll get accused of my DLH bias now, but EPO is proven to boost stamina and also strength (mainly stamina) - without actually building muscle mass, causing this "stiffness", that some posters say alledged abusers of steriod have - thats why middle distance runners, who need to be light, use EPO.

Stamina can affect punch resistance, the more tired the fighter, the more likely they are to get stopped - so I have no doubt that someone on EPO will be able to hold a shot better in the late rounds, and also be able to dig harder in the later rounds.

I think the main reason why Mosley has looked good in fights since the drugs scandal - is because he has mainly been fighting at 147.

He was crap against Mayorga = at Lightmiddle,

Crap in the first match against a shot Vargas (before his eye went) - at Light Middle.
Great in the rematch, granted

And for my money, he wasn't good in the rematch with Winky... Winky ALLOWED him back into the fight.
