the funniest part was me and frank were going clubbing the night before te tyson fight, spud wanted to come along, so we got him to drive to a club we were invited to, we got there , frank jumped out, i followed , told spud to park up and come into the club, he then infortmed me he was not very good at parking!! so said ok, get out and I will park up, he got out, leaving the automatic in DRIVE..nearly smashed the car, we went into the club, and spud stayed on his own while me and frank partied, I told him to join us, but he was so nervous, he thought it was nice that we invited him out, he was even buying his own drinks!!!! so thats how spud got nvolved in the pro game, he ended up doing a bit of driving for panix promotions, till he crashed a mini bus taking fighters to the airport, thats was the end of that, he then latched on to hennessy, that ended, now he ended up with fight academy, end of......

Give us a bit of background so we can put some of your comments in context.
I presume he's friendly with Steve Wood and some of the VIP Boxing crowd in Manchester (maybe I'm presuming too much). That's what I assumed due to the flavour of some of Spud's comments.

I feel for Tony as he's a fantastic prospect and deserved more time and 1 to 1 than he was getting!!! He'll come good..Jaffa has all the tools to become a legend in Sunderland he really does..He can be to them what Hatton is to City!!

Not really just an honest opinion..If he feels things aren't going right then what do you want him to do?? Stay there and rot?? He's better than that..Also I thought the comparing the boxers in the boxing monthly article was a bit out of line!! "Joe Murray is the pick of the Olympians"?? He's entitled to think that BUT shouldn't have stated that in a magazine!!
I don't believe in comparing your fighters like that!! When your all in the gym you shouldn't be saying well your better than him and he's better than you!! It's wrong..Farnell done an article the month before and was asked thew same questions by the same author Steve Illis and he didn't reply with comments like that! It wouldn't have been right to say well Crolla is better than Bellew and Belly can go further than Crolla!! All he had to say was that there at different stages of there career or something like that!!
Im not saying he's a bad coach cos I don't know the guys coaching ability BUT I just didn't think it was fair making that statement that's all..I also know just for the record that Jaffa spent more time on cardio machines than he did on one to one with his coach..This is the real reason for him leaving..
You'll find a happy boxer is a better boxer!!
Good Luck Jaffa..You'll come good mate I know ya will!!

Forgive me from being a bit behind on things. And a bit slow. And thick, etc etc.
But aren't Tony Jeffries and Joe Murray fighting on the same night, in different countries? I just realized from looking on the schedule.
The scheduling must have created problems for trainer Joe Gallagher. It would have been hard work being in both places.
I can't help asking, is this what the problem was, or summert competely different?

well Joe G did say that he didn't want anyone to judge Jeffries for a couple of years as he hadn't had as much pro training. I think I read that on BBN.

Wasn't it reported in Boxing News that Gllagher had decided togo to vegs with Murray and agreed that Kayes would be in Jeffries corner. But now Tony is with Bobby Rimmer thats sorted (although I guess Kerry will probably be there).

yeah I'm just asking, is that what is meant by "1 on 1", 1 on 1 on the night? or 1 on 1 in the gym, or both
i'm just wondering aloud if scheduling created problems. i..e if joe's fighters are fighting at the same day, on shows by different promoters, how to divide time between the fighters for important fights...in the gym, on the night.
i don't know owt about training, not been to a gym in years, i just watch the fights. so i'm not claiming to know anything. but if a trainer has a number of guys that are fighting all at once. in this case, what does the promoter do? does the promoter go ahead, with the risk that fighting on a said date might keep apart fighter and trainer. does he go ahead, knowing the show will make good money?
anyway, probably none of 95% of posters' business on this thread, incl me.

Well I beg to differ!! After actually hearing it from the horses mouth!! He wasn't getting enough 1 to 1 coaching it's as simple as that..
My point about the comments made in the boxing monthly magazine was nothing to do with Jaffa that was just my personal observation of the article and I satnd by it in saying I don't think a trainer should say 1 fighter is better than another when they train together!! It's unfair and a bit degrading if you ask me personally..
These are my views on the matter and not everyone is gonna agree with me but hey this is boxing.

Terry D wrote:It is crazy, a mutually agreed split has become this big daft soap. Jaffa is his own man, and in control of his own destiny, I am sure he still rates Joe G as a coach.
As for one-on-one time, Gallagher gave his fighters time. Since the turn of '09 BBN saw him take John Murray into a title fight, and John was given time, plus Joe told everyone that John was the best British champ on the circuit.
Then they took Jaffa into his fight. Jaffa had told BBN that he had always trained in an amateur gym, so Joe G said that Jaffa had the most changes to make, but would make them with ease and would be the best Olympian so far to turn over, and there was evidence to support that on the night.
Then Joe took Macklin into his title fight, Matt was given time and Joe told BBN that Matt was the best British boxer around at the moment and his time was coming, sound familiar? He said the same about John prior to his fight.
Joe Murray was next up, he got some time with Joe and Joe told everyone that Joe M was the best Olympic hopeful due to the fact he had trained in a pro gym for so long. Then Joe got six-rounds of solid boxing, and Joe G said that was the best performance so far, all things considered (the fact he went 6 x 3, took a few shots and came on strong), from the lads who went to the Games.
Then it would have been Jaffa and Joe out next, on the same night, and I fully imagine that Gallagher would have been telling us that both lads were the best of the amateur bunch turning over, and that both were the best prospects in the UK, it is Gallagher's MO.
So the talk about Joe Murray was not a slap in the face for Jaffa, just as the talk about Macklin was not a slap in the face for John Murray, it is how things are done down there. The British champions were preparing fro 12-round contests and both came through them, and both men gave credit to the training they had done, so it is not as if something is being done wrong, and Jeffries has said the move is not a reflection on the man as a trainer.
Since BBN has worked with him, Gallagher has been the type of guy to make his lads feel that they have just as much in their locker as any other fighter, and his results this year are speaking for themselves, two British title fights, two wins, making him 2-0 overall in British title fights, with both Olympians posting good notices.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, some take 5 or 6 and run with them, but the results overall speak for themselves. If you asked Joe G who the best Olympians are he would say his two lads, who did look the best, along with Frankie Gavin and Darren Sutherland, of course he is going to talk Joe M up, as his fight was off-air. That is not a slur, it is what the guy does to gee his men up. It is about motivation.
People may say that Macklin was a cert to win his fight, that is fine, if you felt that before the fight then voice that opinion, if you did not think Macklin would win then you cannot come out and say, "I knew it all along".
The whole thing should have a line drawn under it. The whole 'cult' personality nonsense should also, the guy is dedicated, and at the moment his work is speaking for itself, two British titles with minimal support prior to Kayes stepping in and offering him a gym, that is not bad going.
On the other hand Joe G was talking about Jesus of Nazareth the other day, he has probably nicked a few motivational slogans from the guy.
joe gallagher .

I simply cannot understand Jeffries thinking on this one - he is one fight into his professional career and already "it seems" he is demanding this that and the other - yes demand things once you have proved yourself as a professional but to do so after only one fight against a journeyman ?? - for f*ck sake - Gallachers gym is not exactly that big and the excuses given for leaving in my opinion are not adding up with regards to one on one training - because I honestly thought he gave this as one of the biggest reasons for going there in the first place.
When I met Jaffa - I honestly thought he was a nice person and extremely pleasant to talk to - he is however in my opinion setting himself up for an almighty fall!!!
Having considered the content of your post, it appears to our legal department that you speak with experience from matters within your own life. "demand things once you have proved yourself". We take it that you will never therefore be in a position to demand anything as you have never proved yourself in any area of your life. "he is setting himself up for an almighty fall". No-one has fallen like you my son, job to job, promoter to promoter since failing in HM Services.
