Fair play, Usyk won that clean. Some refs would have stopped that fight when Fury was gone

Right man got the decision

Is he fighting better guys than eg Bruno or Mike Tyson at the same stage?
moses has been pro for a year and a half

a year and a half into tyson's career he'd beaten the likes of james tillis, mitch green, jesse ferguson, jose ribalta, alonzo ratliff, marvis frazier, and was a couple months away from destroying berbick. yes, that is far better than beating illya menzies, dan garber, etc

bruno had beaten former fringe contenders jumbo cummings and scott ledoux, as well as a host of guys like mike jamieson , stewart lithgo, and eddie nielson, who would be up there with anyone moses has fought

I wasn't able to watch tonight as I was at work, but I was popping in, and reading through the RBR comments so thanks for keeping me posted gents. Will comment further on the fight itself if I get the chance to see it somewhere.

I did see the clip of the moment when Usyk had Fury out on his feet. The fight easily could've been stopped there.

Shades of Foster.

Fury used the rope and turnbuckle to hold himself up and didn't touch down with glove nor knee, so any intervention at that point should've been a stoppage. If you're afraid to let it run with someone on their feet you stop it.

ref can rule the ropes held a guy up and count it as a kd, i'd say that clearly fury wouldve gone down without the ropes there so i understand the call

It'll serve as a reference guide in future, won't it.

I personally feel it's too open to abuse re: this application, and that if a fighter either refuses or is removed of the senses to take a knee they should be stopped.

Yeah as I understand it the referee is allowed to rule a knockdown under those circumstances as well, and yes that last time Fury fell into the ropes there's no doubt he was going down if those ropes weren't there.

I don't think it's an outrageous or unfair call. The referee arguably could've made that call a few times before that as Fury was kinda falling into the ropes several times there, but that last time he was absolutely on his way down without the ropes to save him.

I like that Usyk showed us in this fight. He may not be a huge puncher by Heavyweight standards, but he's no Chris Byrd in there either. You gotta respect his punches.

Should’ve been about 4 knockdowns ruled in that round then 😄

How many seconds were left?

Midround and it wouldn't be as big a talking point, but it's highlighted to me the possibility of home refs trying to avert fight-ending KOs. I'm really struggling to think of examples where a fighter wasn't stopped for being that defenceless and not going down?

when ropes are ruled to hold guys up, it doesnt always happen in cases where the fighters is badly hurt. ive seen several instances where a kd was called, where the ropes held a guy up in much more flash kd like cases. in a case like that where the fighter was off balance but not in dire straits, ruling it a kd defo isnt doing them a favour

so its not intrinsically something that is unfairly helping the guy who is ruled down, but ya it's defo true that being the ref's call there is potential for it being abused

personally i thought the call was okay in this instance though. and if it wasnt called a kd and fury somehow got through it, it's possible the 114-113 usyk card wouldve been 114-114 instead (some ppl dont like scoring 10-8 on no kd rounds)

Good fight. Thought Fury was in control and then Usyk caught him with a big left that busted his nose at the end of the 8th and that was when the fight turned. Massive round 9 for Usyk, fury was fortunate to see it out but he recovered well the next round but Usyk just bossed it from there. Suprised Fury was happy to let Usyk push the pace in the 11th and 12th as it was still anyone’s fight at that point

I couldn't believe somebody as experienced as Fury didn't just take a knee. When the ref stepped in to issue a count, I thought he was stopping it.

I'm glad he didn't, as it was a huge fight for all the marbles, and throughly enjoyable too! I'm glad we got the full 12.

What a brilliant fighter Usyk is! Fury had plenty of success in the middle rounds. I thought they both fought well, but Usyk is just that good.

Fury's corner told him he was winning! They told him to bag the last round and that was it. Mental advice. They should have told him he needed a stoppage and to get out there and put it on him.

"Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian professional boxer, suffered a suspected broken jaw during his fight against Tyson Fury on May 19, 2024. According to reports, Usyk was rushed to the hospital after the fight, where he received medical attention for the injury. Fury and his promoter, allegedly, claimed that Usyk had a broken jaw, although the official diagnosis has not been confirmed."
