I’d say it’s the worst quit by a British fighter in a big fight for a long, long time.

The only one that comes close is Khan against Crawford but I feel like you can forgive that a bit more as Khan was done anyway & we knew it was a last payday.

This was Saunders big shot at glory & as soon as the going got tough he quit. Mark Tibbs has said in interviews he didn’t get the response he wanted off Saunders. Brook, Dubois & others told their corners they could see when they couldn’t before their fights ended.

I thought Saunders was executing reasonably well the only game plan that had a chance. I still thought he would end up losing a decision by a couple of rounds as Canelo picked up the pace.

However, as soon as that upper cut connected you could see the fight was over. The eye closed almost instantly. Maybe the fighter goes out if there is one round left to try and survive but with a third of the fight left it was finished. Corner did the right thing pulling him out. BJS looks stupid though with all the die for a win talk.

Seeing him leaving, crying into the towel was equally as satisfying as watching Broner after Maidana tore him a new one

Agree 100%

Although I did think a late stoppage looked as likely as points.

No way Khan's quit was better. You gotta be kidding. There's no shame, when a fighter quits like Dubois or Saunders, after a suffered damage, which is obviously dangerous for health. Khan's quit was far worse.

Khan got hit in the balls and could have taken 5 mins, Saunders had his eye socket broke.
And quit about 45 seconds later.

Khan had shown plenty of guts prior to that fight. BS was asked grave questions of his fighting spirit for the 1st time and failed miserably.

BS's own words "get carried out brother".

I’m no fan of Khan but all I mean is Khan had his hard fights years earlier where he got off the floor & fought through adversity. Everyone knew the Crawford fight was just a pay day towards the end of his career.

With Saunders he’s been supposedly calling for a super fight with Canelo or Golovkin for years. He gets his big fight & as soon as Canelo puts the foot down he looks for a way out. There was no trying to fight through the pain & knock his opponent out like Brook & Dubois he did. He just got on his bike & quit at the end of the round.

Khan had way gutsier performances than Saunders, but the Crawford quit isn't among them in any case. To go for a payday and quit like that is bad, regardless of previous achievements.

Duran had a great performance in the 1st Leonard bout, but he had a bad quit in the 2nd one.

Khan won't be remembered for the Crawford ending.

BS is going to be defined by this loss.

The reaction on this board alone is unprecedented.

Well that was very much as predicted; Saunders had had some good early rounds - Canelo started his usual slow measured style.
Canelo turns it up 2nd half ... BJS starts to feel pressured ... and quit!

The bully got bullied and quit at the very first opportunity. He shut up shop soon as the shot landed and did nothing in the corner to demonstrate he wanted to continue.

So much for all his pre-fight going out on his shield.

Froch initially called it a quit - but then changed his narrative to a more polite narrative.

Everyone could see he quit soon as things got tough.

I know people who want to cave Saunders’ fornicating head in if they ever see him in the street. He should just disappear. Filth.

He’ll be in the ‘who needs em club’..

Now that he’s lost his ‘0’.. he may finally get in the ring with others.. get a few wins and challenge Andrade? Or have Andrade move to 168 maybe.

Or can fight Cal Smith after they both pick up a few wins.

The Callum fight sounds like a good domestic matchup.

Andrade gotta fight any living body to prove he deserves a shot. Saunders, as an ex-titlist and challenger for Canelo, sounds fine in this case.
