Sucks for Pettis. He went from on top of the world to 3 losses in a row. I don't really think it's because he's slipping. It's just that RDA, Alvarez, and Barboza have all really improved in the past couple years. Barboza looked extremely impressive last night.

Jones looked a little rusty in there. Looked like he had a bit of trouble pulling the trigger.

Mighty Mouse moved himself into the #1 spot for me last night. Incredible performance from him.

Why is it that that boxers in the 120 - 130 range can be superstars, but MMAthletes the same size aren't?

Who are the 120lbs superstars? Hamed was big but that's due to his KO power...Manny only became a superstar when he moved up...same with Floyd and Duran.

This weekends card is pretty solid, even without Anderson. I'm a big fan of Werdum, but I think stipe might be worth a bet, he was paying about 3.50 I think

As long as Stipe can keep this on the feet, I believe he will win.

Rumor is UFC is on the verge of selling the company for right around $4 billion. If this happens, I expect the sport to end up falling into a boxing type situation.

I'm not so sure, Werdum is a beast on the feet these days as well. I don't think too highly of his cardio though so if Stipe is still in the fight by the championship rounds he'll get opportunities.

Yeah, Werdum's striking has improved. However, I think Stipe's is still better. He gave two of the best pure Heavyweight striker's a rough and tumble in JDS and Arlovski. He lost to JDS, but not without hurting him a few times and opening him up. What makes this fight interesting, for me, is the threat of the take down from Werdum. That may make Stipe hesitant in the stand up and make a difference in the fight. If it goes to the ground, Werdum has a massive advantage. Great match-up!

I suspect they'll be selling a minority share and nothing about the company's management will change. I think some Emirati group already owns like 10% of the company.

Jacare vs the Weidman/Rockhold winner should be ace.

I enjoyed the Miocic fight. To knock another heavyweight silly with a shot like that is pretty impressive in my book. I am not that high on Werdum as an all round MMA fighter. I fully believe Cain would beat him in a rematch. And while Miocic looked a bit off last night leading up to the KO, his quality has been on display in prior bouts against top comp. The reason he did not look all that good last night was because of his tentativeness for fear of the take down. Who really wants to tangle with Werdum on the ground?

I agree with you. It just seemed a bit poor for a title bout.

I would love to see Romero get a shot. But, it looks like he's out until later in the year sometime. Guess it could work out, but I believe he has something like 5 months left on his suspension.

Werdum's flurry which led to the KO was a bit embarrassing. Well timed punch by Stipe though.

Jacare looked good but can't help thinking was that just an old, less drugged up Vitor he beat?

I missed the prelims but saw that Maia subbed Brown in the 3rd which sounds impressive. How was the fight going before that? 5 in a row for Maia.

Maia did exactly what he's been doing for his last several fights. Very little striking, just takedown to total ground dominance within the first minute of every round. The guy is 38 years old and an absolute marvel. I don't think I have ever seen a superior application of BJJ in MMA.

Sadly, I think Maia is still unlikely to get a title shot. If Lawler and Thompson both win their next fights (which they are both favorites to do) they'll almost certainly get matched up next.

You know what fight I'd like to see? Maia vs. Palhares.

I'll have to catch up with the Maia Brown fight.

As good as Maia is, if he got a shot at Lawler, I think Robbie would stuff the takedowns and KO him. A credible opponent though.

Annoyed me a bit that the commentators were trying to tell us Maia is the best grapper in MMA history given the Shields fight really wasn't that long ago. He's got beautiful BJJ to be sure, but his takedowns aren't the best and that's massive in MMA.

His takedowns are pretty damn good. He's landed a lot of takedowns on a lot of elite fighters. I thought the Shields fight was more or less a draw.
