Audley Harrison out of British top 10

I noticed Audley Harrison is not in the Boxing Monthly British rankings and I think this is unfair.
For sure he's fallen way short of expectations, but he's still unquestionably domestic top 10. He comprehensively defeated Danny Williams in their rematch, and while that was more than 2 years ago, it's still a better result than anything on the records of McDermott, Gammer, Chisora and Sexton, who all have a spot.

he is better than them skill wise but you have to judge off recent performances other wise roy jones should still be p4p number 1 and recently they have done better than him

Agreed his recent form is poor, but let's look at the four I mentioned:
McDermott - competitive vs Williams but DID lose. Best recent win was over Pele Reid, hardly a contender anymore.
Gammer - semi-retired, coming off two losses, his best wins being over Krence (who Audley has also beaten) and a novice Steeds.
**Gammer and McDermott have both LOST to Williams but are ranked above a man who beat him**
Chisora - worthy of a top 10 spot for beating Sexton, but that remains his best win so far and that's not enough to put him over Harrison IMO.
Sexton - Similar to Chisora, worthy of a lower-top 10 spot, but best win is over Burton and again that's not enough to put him over Harrison.

i see where your coming from with gammer
williams has been more active and won more recently that harrison thats why he's ranked abouve him its also the same reason holyfield isnnt in anyones top 10 he may have beat tyson and ruiz but hes not won lately and has lost
harrison should be above them but needs to get his work ethic back and score some solid wins
ps where is sosnowski in the british ranking as i know hes british registered

I would back any top 10 British heavyweight to beat him over 10 rounds.

Sosnowski is fourth, I think, without having the mag to hand, after Haye, Rogan and Skelton, and above Williams.

Maybe, but rankings should be about what you
have done, rather than what people
think you will do. As it stands, I don't believe those ranked above him by BM
have done more than him.

sounds fair
boxrec dont have sosnowski as a UK fighter
Akinwande 9
harrison is 10
fury 11
gammer 12
does that sound a fairer assumption to you oliver? i dont think akinwande should be in 10 though hes not had a top 10 win recently

I wouldn't class Sosnowski as British on the basis of him holding a UK licence, unless he has citizenship here. I know BM ranks all British licence-holders, but personally I'd only rank who is eligible for the British title. As for Akinwande, I believe he is now a Nigerian citizen.
So my rankings would be as follows:
1. Haye 2. Rogan 3. Skelton 4. Williams 5. Sprott 6. McDermott 7. Harrison 8. Gammer 9. Chisora 10. Sexton
(NB Just realised I credited McDermott's best recent win as being over Reid when of course he also beat Gammer. Accordingly I'll rank him over Harrison. That also means Gammer's ranking over Harrison in BM is even less appropriate, if we're talking about recent form)

ill agree with you on gammer and if you dont include sosnowski (i personally do) harrsion would be my number 9 but i still think everone else mantioned should be above him. isnt pele ried offically retired now? so why is he still ranked by boxrec

Personally I would rank them somewhere like this.
Haye
Rogan
Skelton
Snowsnowski
Sprott
Harrison
Williams
McDermott
Chisora
Gammer

Didn't Danny Williams only have 2 weeks notice for this fight?

Whats Danny Williams done to warrant such a high ranking in recent times.... Sprott, Skelton and Harrison have all beaten him (more recently than he beat them), he's also lost to Snowsoski and had a controvesial win over McDemott, he should be one place above McDermott no more.

Stu.
Take it from me. The victory over McDermott was not controversial. Just some believe one huge round is more important than 10 tight rounds for the other guy.
Williams beat McDermott over 12 rounds handily.

One huge round, and 2 point deductions.
I agree, I still had Danny winning, but it seemed like I was in the minority.... even if he blew out McDermott in a round, he still should be ranked below Harrison, Skelton, Sprott and Snowsoski (if you count him)... they all beat him more recently than he has managed to beat them.

Harrison cannot rank above him. I think Williams victory over McDermott is more valuable than Harrison's versus Arias. Since then both have lost again.
Personally, I'd rather fathom what is keeping Harrison from a ring?

I disagree on the fact that Harrison beat Williams - and beat him in the rematch. The only way Williams should leap frog above Harrison is by beating someone higher than Harrison (e.g. Sprott) or by beating a succession of fighters close to Harrison - and for me he hasn't done that also.

We'll have to disagree then Stu.

we all know ratings are subjective (just ask the WBA) but who really gives a shit about Audley's ranking, a few years go ago i posted a thread on a different forum saying people should leave him alone and be happy for him with his WBF title; but the man has shown little respect for other fighters or his own fan's (does not even get own website updated!). His last public outcry was against David Haye who apparently has shown him no respect and Haye should fight him blah, blah, blah. The ratings may be wrong but the guy is inactive, full of excuses and has failed to fulfill obvious potential. This thread should be more concerned about where British boxing stands in the H/W division if Haye loses in June.

I don't rate Burton at all and I think he is the British version of Valuev.

why start a thead defending Fraudley's right to be in the top ten? Why do that? He's a big boy, bigger than ALL of them bar the novice, Fury, wasn't his job over the last 7 years to establish his credentials by himself?
Oh yeah, he was busy wasn't he...talking big.

Great times. We also had Sprott on his best run of form, Herbie Hide stirring things up, the novice Audley generating hype, and even rumours of a Bruno comeback - and most of this was unfolding on the BBC too .
