Can Froch Take Taylors Power!

I just watched froch vs pascal again, froch is better than i thought but he is open to get hit with clean shots, he said sparring pascal has made him better, he said he has corrected mistakes but i don't think he can have greatly improved in such a short time, we know taylor has world class power, he dropped pavlik, something hopkins couldn't do, robin reid is old and is not a great puncher and he landed a shot that looked like it stunned froch a bit and jean pascal, who has he ko'd, if taylor lands shots as clean as pascal did how do you'll see froch standing up to them!!!!
I think froch might have the power to ko him too, one of his sparring partners who also sparred kessler said froch hits harder, but taylor has a great chin so if he knocks him out it probably won't be until later in the fight.

Ive watched the Pavlik Hopkins fight a few times and im pretty sure Hop could have ko'ed Pavlik if he wanted too.. Looked like he was holding back a bit out of respect. Froch seems to have a pretty decent beard even though he has been hit clean a few times and is very open. When i have a tickle on this fight saturday it deffo wont be on Taylor KO.

Carl Froch has laughed off Jermain Taylor's prediction that he will be "put to sleep" by the American in their WBC super-middleweight title fight.

But Froch countered: "The only time he has put me to sleep was when I watched a couple of his middleweight defences." "If he thinks he's knocking me out then he's should change his name to 'Bad Predictions'."

COME ON FROCHY!!!

Pascal was able to lauch surprising counter attacks that caught Froch. Pascal coiled up in a ball, ducking very low (so low, he disappeared off the bottom of my tv screen) before throwing powerful, fast hooks. Taylor, though fast, is more orthodox and predictable. I don't expect him to catch Froch in the way that Pascal was able to - at least not as often.

Despite assertions to the contrary, it should be quickly apparent in round one that Froch is bigger than Taylor. Look again at the Tale of the Tape: Taylor has a super middleweight's body perched on a middleweight's spindly legs.

Spinks & Ouma seemed to cope with it ok so on past evidence I can't see it bothering Froch.

FROCH ADMITTED POST FIGHT THAT HE GOT A BIT EXCITED BY HIS HOME CROWD AND THE ATMOSPHERE ETC SO GOT CARRIED AWAY IN TRYING TO KNOCK OUT PASCAL WHICH LEFT HIMSELF A LITTLE OPEN . HE IS KNOWN THOUGH FOR HAVING A LOW GUARD . WHAT THE FROCH VS PASCAL FIGT SHOWED IS THAT THEY BOTH HAVE EXCELLENT CHINS . I PERSONALLY DO NOT BELEIVE TAYLOR CAN KO FROCH , IF TAYLOR WINS IT WILL BE THROUGH EXPOSING THAT LOW GUARD CONTINOUSLY AND WINNING ON POINTS , BUT PERSONALLY CANT SEE PAST A FROCH WIN VIA MID TO LATE STOPPAGE.

Yeah, because Froch has never been open before that, has he?

I see a big problem with Froch’s defence. It has nothing to do with having his hands low, because most of that greatest defensive fighters held their hands (or one hand low). It has more to do with the face he has a crappy defence.

Taylor probably hits harder than anyone he’s faced, and that big, straight right hand will be a danger.

Froch is brilliant value – full of heart and with a giant pair of wrought iron balls – but I do think that when he steps up to the top level, that defence will let him down.

Hope he does it, though.

I think Froch can take it & grind out the win.

However, if he keeps on taking flush shots from good fighters like Taylor, Pascal, he won't be around for too long. Froch's attitudes in defence - leaving himself open - and in taking fights - i.e. gunning for tough opponents - isn't one that encourages long term success.

It's possible that he is maturing and refining his style. He did some good disciplined boxing v Pascal, mixed in with some totally reckless slugging. I like to see Froch boxing behind that heavy jab, setting up rights to the body, pushing the opponent back and then throwing bombs when they are stuck on the ropes.

HIS GUARD BEING SO LOW IS THE BAD POINT NOT HIS DEFENSE OVERALL . YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST CHIN IN THE WORLD BUT IF YOUR DEFENSE AINT THERE YOUVE GOT NO HOPE . DEFENSE IS MORE THAN JUST GUARD ITS HEAD MOVEMENT , FOOTWORK EVEN ATTACKING IN SOME INSTANCES IS PART OF THE DEFENSE SO TO SAY CARLS DEFENSE IS BAD IS TOTALLY INACURATE , THATS WHY HES NOT BEEN BEATEN REGARDLESS OF OPPONENTS , ITS HIS GUARD BEING LOW THATS HIS PROB , SOMEONE WITH A STYLE LIKE CALZAGHE WOULD BEAT FROCH IF THEY HAD A GOOD DEFENSE OF THEIR OWN , TAYLOR HAS THE REQUIRED TOOLS TO BEAT FROCH BUT FROCH HAS THAT DESIRE THAT I BELEIVE TAYLOR NO LONGER POSSESSES AND THAT IS WHAT WILL WIN THIS FIGHT

Froch will soon go the same way as Morales, Margarito and all those other fighters who defend with their face. Once the chin cracks- and it will crack - it's a slippery slope.

However, I don't think Taylor will be the one to crack it. I see no evidence at all of his power, and vertainly nothing to say that he cracks like pascal who ddnt really have froch in any trouble

Agree that Froch can't afford to keep taking punches the way he did against Pascal. But while he has appeared open before, I have never seen him take anything like that kind of abuse. This is because Froch committed himself to attack far too early against a dangerous, inspired opponent, just as Lewis did against McCall in their first fight. In other words, I don't see it so much as a technical flaw but as a tactical mistake in that particular fight. Had he spent the early rounds behind the jab he could have then been able to take these risks later on with less chance of being punished for them.

Also - no one's talking about Taylor's defensive weaknesses. He's not exactly Pernell Whitaker is he?

Nobby I think you will be suprised at the face off at the weigh in. I expect Taylor to look the bigger man. Froch wont be cutting much weight whereas Taylor I expect will get into the ring at least half a stone heavier than when he weighs in. American fans always seem to think this is a great thing to do but I disagree, I think Pascal did the same and down the stretch he was (in my opinion) more tired because of it.

If Froch is in touch with 5 rounds to go I expect Taylor to struggle with the pressure.

The other thing to note is when Froch got whacked by Pascal's shots he immediately hit back at Pascal. If Froch is able to do this to Taylor I expect Taylor's heart will break.

It's a tough fight and Ill be delighted if Froch can do it.

That sounds about right James. But I was really struck by how big Taylor's upper body is compared to his legs. I certainly agree that Taylor will struggle to cope when Froch ups the tempo.

I think alot more depends on Froch's tempremant in the ring than his ability to take a shot or his defense. He clearly has a good chin but that isn't going to save him if he leaves it out there to be hit. He'll get worn down and stopepd if he doesn't settle down early against Taylor. He's wide open to the right hand over the top, but only when he stands there looking for a 'war'. It's that mentality that needs to change rather than his defense, in my opinion. There were times in the Pascal fight where he looked clumsy and easy to hit and it was usually when the fight and crowd were boiling up. When he settled down he opened Pascal up at will. Froch can beat Taylor and beat him well, in my opinion. I just don't think he will. The occasion will get the better of him and he'll keep walking onto right hands enroute to a close but clear loss. I really hope he proves me wrong though.

I wouldn't say Pascal is going nowhere.

He might go on and beat Diaconu for the WBC light heavy title in a big all Canadian fight. Or he might not. He has speed and talent, though he needs to fight at his own pace and is hittable. A good specimen and at the very least, made for a good world title challenger.

The thing about Taylor, great record but the performances aren't so hot. With those names on his record, why isn't he a future Hall of Famer? If Taylor was British he wouldn't have got the decisions he got!

You're comparing fighters at totally different stages of their careers. Froch is essentially still a prospect despite his belt and relatively advanced years.

The same can be said for Taylor in both Hopkins and the Wright fights.
I'm sure Taylor picked up valuable experience in those fights, but he wasn't very convincing. In fact it's those fights that made me doubt he was quite the fighter many were making him out to be. This has nothing to do with his nationality.

I don't buy your line that some people on here are backing Froch just because he's British. If so, the same people would have been hyping Jennings before the Cotto fight. Froch doesn't have many fanboys at the moment. The people who rate him, as I do, rate him because they like what he does in the ring. He may not be text book but he's effective.

If Froch insists on boxing with his hands by his waist he loses this fight.

Spinks and Oumna did and they were a Welter and a Lt Middle who have both been knocked out before.

If Zab Judah can do it - why couldn't Taylor?

Who is Pascal really? He was just a prospect going for a vacant title just like Froch was, only Froch has a better resume compared to Pascal who's record has more padding than a nuthouse. Pascal has done nothing before or since Froch to prove to me that he's world class yet people are going on as if Carl has gone back to 1974 and beaten George Foreman.

Taylor is the first world class opponent of Frochs career, he has skills and a lot of experience and I predict a tough night for Froch and it wouldn't surprise me if Taylor won, if Froch wins in convincing fashion then I'll start rating him as one of the main men at 168 but until then he's just Carl Froch.

As for "can he take Taylors power?" yes I think he can, Taylor isn't really a puncher.

Froch takes punches, granted, but his chin is like Iron. For the amount of shots he's taken, I don't once remember seeing him wobbled. Taylor though...

If Froch can connect properly, and that's a big if, then he will win. But can't see anything but a points win for Taylor.
