Paulie Malignaggi leaves Budy.

Imagine if you will a bright red shiny Ferrari. On the outside, the Exotic sports Car Ferrari looks absolutely amazing. But what if that beautiful Ferrari didn't have a super fast V-12 motor that it is famous for, but instead had an engine from Kia?! Well, not such a beautiful Ferrari anymore... that is for sure! That's exactly how Paulie Malignaggi felt about himself recently. He was a Ferrari running with a Kia engine.

In a rather interesting interview conducted by Thomas Gerbasi of MaxBoxing, Malignaggi spoke on his recent
split from trainer Buddy McGirt. McGirt's style of training did not work well for Malignaggi, and that left Malignaggi fighting in a way that made him look less than stellar.

In regards to how Malignaggi felt of his transition under the guidance of McGirt, Malignaggi told Gerbasi: “It’s like you have a Ferrari and you took out the Ferrari engine and you put a Kia engine inside it. You’re not driving a Ferrari anymore; it just looks like it."

Saturday on SHOWTIME, Malignaggi (25-2) takes on Chris Fernandez (16-6-1). Malignaggi who still likes McGirt isn't using him as a trainer anymore. Malignaggi is using Brooklyn trainer Sherif Younan for this weekend's battle.


I do not rate Mcgirt at all.

Just my opinion.

i like McGirt but recently it seems his more famous charges have been getting beat. i think he needs to find a fighter that would benifi from his style of training instead of ones looking to enhance their reputation by linking up with a famous trainner.

Malinaggi was never a ferrari he was more like a vespa scooter - made to look good, fast but when it come up against a range rover head on it crashes and burns

he reputation is based on lsoing to cotto and (now)nearly going the distance with hatton

Malignaggi is overrated - that's what you get when you have skills and no power.

He lost to Ngoudjo and N'Dou.

It's no surprise that Hatton found him easy to hit.

But to do a better job on Paulie than Cotto did is impressive.

Its a hard one is Buddy not getting the best from his fighters, or do they just not have what it takes to be the elite, I know Pauly is up there but i mean that next step , I remember Buddy years ago , and i took a video off him in to the gym sat every one down and said watch this .

It was so long ago , I cannot remember who it was against or the excact number off punches ,. but anyway i sat them all down and said this guy tore his rotar cuff , in the shoulder , ( hope thats the correct spelling ).

He then with ONE arm went on to throw , around 150 -200 punches a round . I then played videos' off them fighting , one guy who was pro , and had lost his last 2 said whats the point I told him he threw more in 2 facking rnds than you did in 8 THATS WHY YOU FACKING LOST. .

pOINT I'M MAKING HIS pAULY TRAINS WITH HIM AND THROWS fACK ALL , is it the trainer or the fighter .
