Whether he is as good as he thinks or not he is in line for a major payday, it is ridiculous to suggest he should retire now

I am disappointed that Rhodes' fight with Small didn't happen, and his performance was mundane against that opponent last night.
Looking back at his recent fights- he was better than Vuma, so picked up that title (but then Vuma looked pretty average) Outclassed Jamie Coyne (but couldn't stop him- and again, was Coyne really British level?)
Good luck to him if he does get a world title crack, you can't begrudge a fighter a payday, as coco says. But nothing in his last three fights suggested him being close to genuine world class. Now, had he comfortably knocked out the mouthy but talented Small....

rhodes lost to gary lockett only a couple of yrs ago.
puts the world title talk into a bit of perspective.
and one of the reasons he should be proving it against the lkes of small.
nevermind.

Since then he knocked out three inexperienced opponents , and had that very fine win over Woolcombe, but since then three competent, but by no means spectacular, victories. He showed last night that he can stop people , for sure, but I just think he needs one more proper, well matched fight before stepping up.

Maybe as the expression goes you dont get paid overtime. I felt after the round where rhodes had him down with the body shot he should have finished him in the next rd

I find him boring to watch but I wouldn't begrudge him a title shot. I don't think he'll be around for much longer (at the current level he is considered to be at).

Be interesting to see where he goes, really. Sergiy Dzinziruk is WBO champ, Jamie Moore European champion, Vernon Forrest WBC champ, Cory Spinks for the IBF title perhaps?
Daniel Santos is a possibility- WBA "ordinary" champion.
Unless he makes some nominal defences of that International belt, instead.

I too was was bored by his performance last night.
But as he and others have said he is positioning himself to achieve a nice payday and fulfilling an ambition. Not going to knock him for that.
But I don't care for it all honesty. Last night was a filler - I would have more respect if the Small fight had have taken place and if he was a bit more genuine about his ambitions. If he had confidence in beating Small then the fight would have remade - there should be little pretense about slip ups - title tilts should be earned.
Shoddy in the least.

Small was right about Ryan all along.
In my opinion, he bottled it.
