In the early days of satellite television, Eurosport used to show seriously
down market fights from very obscure French venues. The budgets appeared to be so small
that it was touch and go whether the commentator (Steve Holdsworth) rocked up in time.

The fight that still stays in my memory was where Steve mentioned that a particular fighter was
a very religious person.

The boy was getting a bad beating and when he got back to his stool, his trainer said:

"I've just spoken to god and he said " go forward throwing left hooks"""

The guy was totally profuse in his declarations of Walker's greatness. Flattered, Walker bought him a beer. The guy went on gushing about Mickey-this and Mickey-that. Eventually, Mickey got the nerve up to ask: "How do you feel I would have done against Ketchel?

my all time favourite boxing quote occurs when benn and eubank are signing the contract for their first fight. the presenter asks eubank a question and benn interrupts. eubank replies "youve had your say, lets have some parliamentary procedure." absolutely priceless. check it on youtube

John Cowboy McCormack was on a panel or discussion type show and the MC asked McCormack "what was your favourite sporting memory..." or something to that effect about his boxing career. The Cowboy cunningly replied;

the night Celtic gubbed Rangers 7-1, big cup final victory for Celtic....

not so well recieved in the mostly Scottish protestant media, including the MC of course. Someone else here might know the exact phrasing of the question and of the incident.

Everyone knows this one but it's worth a quick mention. Jerry Quarry was asked by an unthinking journalist if he found Jack Bodell awkward after blowing him away in 64 seconds at Wembley in 1971 (Bodell did have a reputation for an unorthodox southpaw style).

How about Chuck Wepner challenging Ali for the title. Chuck and his wife were staying in the same hotel as Ali, albeit on a lower floor, Ali of course having the penthouse while Chuck had some middle of the hotel double room.
On the afternoon of fight day he gave his wife $200 and told her to buy some special sexy lingerie because that night she was going to bed with the heavyweight champ.
Wepner dropped Ali but as known went on to get a pretty good hiding. Later that night he was lying in bed, lumped and bumped when his wife appeared from the bathroom, wearing some stunning lingerie. She leant seductively on the doorframe and said in her sweetest voice, "Chuck honey, is Muhammad coming down here or shall I go up to his room?"

I was trying to remember a quote from Teddy Atlas, but so far my research has only come up with a Mike Tyson quote.
