Carl Froch and big fights

Hope this doesn't get merged. I'd like this thread to be about how easy/hard it will be for Froch to get good fights from now on.

We know about how hard it has been to get an opponent for the vacant title fight - Inkin pulls out twice (got his comeuppance later), so Pascal comes in.

We know how hard it was to get Taylor. Taylor turned down the vacant title fight, and only after what must be strained negotiations was Froch-Taylor made as title defence #1.

So, in a nutshell, with a WBC title and a dramatic KO of Taylor, how has this changed things for Froch? Will he be able to get unification fights (forget Calzaghe, it'll never happen, as most of the UK probably missed Froch-Taylor). Froch made a massive gamble, did it with high drama, and surely he has got things moving for the good...

In Britain, how will things be for him now also? No offence, but he is in a higher echelon now to WBO regulars who belong to a different promoter.

A homecoming fight would be nice but the contenders willing to travel - Green, Andrade and Bika are all tough fights.

Showtime have stated interest in Carls next fight, so that should help him out if stays stateside.

I really like Froch.... but he needs to just forget about Calzaghe now, and get on with his own career. It kind of annoyed me that straight after the biggest win of his career.... the first thing he did in the ring was call out JC. (And I really dislike JC in any case)... Carl Just needs to move on.

I think the only SM (discounting Pavlik and Abraham for now) i'd have starting as a favorite against Carl is Kessler... and I think thats the fight he should go after. He's on a roll... he's been hit enough that Kessler would probably fancy it too. That'd be a great measure of exactly how good Carl is... and despite Kessler being the favorite, i'd give Carl a great chance.

If he beat Kessler in his next fight... the really big fights will be there for him...

I think the biggest fights are Bute and Kessler. The ones that need building up to. Obviously Calzaghe is much bigger than those, would be as close as is poss in this day to attracting the kind of coverage that Benn and Eubank used to attract. No wonder Froch wants it. I think he sees Joe as being genuinely knockoutable.

Apart from Joe, the 2 big fights:

Kessler, to be the top man at 168.

Bute, exciting unification, would draw a massive crowd in Notts or Canada.

He could draw Kessler and Bute. Personally I'd like to see Kessler. They both punch, and it would be an excellent bout. Froch can really take the same route JC did after beating Lacy - take on some good fighters (Bika) and then go on to fight Kess or Bute to clean the division up, then demand whoever he wants (Pavlik), if he does all that, he's set, providing he can get his head through the stadium door.

Is the money there for a Kessler fight?

Didn't it take a couple of million to get him over to Cardiff?

Jeff Lacy.

Beatable, predictable and Froch can stop him, something Taylor and Calzaghe couldn't do and he's had a squeeky win since Taylor beat him.

Nice steady voluntary to an American audience.

That was with HBO backing as well. There won't be nearly enough money around to make Froch/Kessler in Britain.

I think Allen Green is the easiest fight to make, but I'd like to see Froch unify with Bute or Kessler if possible.

Personnally, I wouldn't be running after Sakio Bika. Froch might just find the antidote to his own appetite, stamina, chin and heart. It woiuldn't be good viewing either.

Jeff Lacy is a nice, stationary, predictable target with residual renown in the States.

I admire Froch's get on with it mo, but surely to go straight from those two punishing wars to Bika or Kessler is too big an ask.

A simpler but significant next bout to build him up alongside Pavlik or Hopkins or Bute etc.

And rest him, after all Froch will make it a slug-a-thon with anyone anyway.

Lacy would fancy it I suspect, Froch gives everyone a chance.

I also wouldn't rule out a Pascal rematch either.

I don't think, David, that there's much point putting Froch in against some lesser lights in the hope of 'resting' him. The guy's defence is so god-awful that he's going to ship punches against anyone who is good enough to get a shot at a title. Of course, they may be able to get someone so god-awful that Froch can finish the job early, but I'm not sure that would progress Froch's case at all. Agains anyone from gatekeeper to fringe world level, Froch is going to get tagged often.

With that in mind, I would want to avoid the heaver hitters in the division. Lacy lookes shot to shreds and seems unwilling to let go with the punch that provided the moniker, so he might be worthwhile, but I would think twice before putting Froch in against someone like Green or Miranda. They might as well get him the mega fights ASAP and give him long rests in between, because people are going to land on that head.

Is there NOTHING they can tell him to keep even his right up??

Carl deserves a hometown fight next up IMO, what's that Inkin maggot upto these days? He's well overdue a good sound Froch-thrashing

You've got more chance of getting a dead man in the ring with him.

Makes sense, good choice, unless Lacy starts getting his shots off and Froch gets pulled into a hard war for little reward

Not Lacy, he looks done to be honest, plus he's never really had that supposed big punch that would give him a chance - Taylor always looked the bigger hitter of those two.

Kessler should wait a bit, he could well de-rail the Froch express before Carl gets to cash in - especially as Carl would have to go over there to get the fight.

Alan Green in Nottingham would be an excellent choice - a tough fight but Carl would likely grind him down in another thriller, and huge figures for ITV.

And Pavlik or Abrahams next year would be X Rated fights of the year.

didn't Lacy almost lose again, the other week, to Otis Griffin?

I'd hate to see it.

good idea, Green scored a spectacular KO on the Froch undercard and may finally be showing his potential.

However, it seems Green is in talks to fight Bute. In Canada. Seems like Green is resigned to fighting away from home. It would be a shame if Hennessy went for Joe, doesn't get fight, leaving froch with no one decent to take on.

Reckon Showtime would do a 4-man tournament to unify WBC and IBF belts. Bute-Green and Froch-Ward/Miranda winner.

I'd hate to see Lacy.

This is the time for Froch to fight Bute or Kessler wherever and prove he's the best for all his mouth.

Does anyone else think Froch would just walk right through Allan Green? I really don't rate Green at all plus his chin is suspect.

Froch KO7.

I think this is the best fight to make, can't see many others that would make sense unless he jumped right in vs Bute or Kessler, which would be a mistake. I hardly think Balzay can be coaxed into a fight either.

absolutely, i don't think he has the intestinal fortitude to last out a tough fight with carl nor does he have the cuteness to outbox him.

Green is a bigger puncher than Taylor though.

i think hes shown he is beatable but can last the 12 rounds and be dangerous a skilled SM would beat him i hope he doesnt go after kessler or hopkins as i think bouth would beat him

well done froch :TU:

Yeah Carl would be favorite alright, but Green has big balls and would give it a great shot I reckon. And going 10 with Miranda means your chin is not bad at all. He's a good puncher, but maybe not as hard as Taylor.

I'd keep Carl clear of Miranda if possible, he'd be favorite, but you really don't want someone like Miranda teeing off on your chin for too long.

Bute would be a great fight if MH can make it, the guys chin is definitely not as good as Carl's and it's a fight Froch can win, even in Canada ( he must be getting a following over there now, they showed the Taylor fight live too )

I reckon all the top guys will fancy Carl after witnessing his defence against Taylor. The thing is, he has a granite chin and can bang so hard they may well be lured into a false sense of security.

Also, Carl is awkward and although he did get caught far too many times, he also rolled a lot of the punches and was simply 'scraped' and not hit cleanly. imo he never really looked hurt or in trouble (even the knockdown). I think Carl is a deceptive fighter - and a deceptive fighter is a dangerous fighter.

Love to see Froch v Kessler - that would carry an 18+ certificate !!!!!!!!
