Dropped at 0.44 of the round remaining and rose at 0.31

If he had survived, i'm sure this minute detail would be under far more scrutiny !

he may well count but he is supposed to count in time with the timekeeper, who is supposed to administer a count in seconds.

taylor was still on the floor at 8, i know in the uk if you are still on the floor at 8 the ref will wave his hands and end the fight. it was 9.5 when taylor was on his feet, the ref gave him every chance. if taylor had taken another count, on one knee, and used up another 9 seconds, he would be champion today..

thats bollocks, the time keeper counts the ref in and the ref picks it up as soon as he has got the other to the neutral corner etc.

the count was long and i saw that before i even read this post

Your right. After the fight I kept thinking to myself "Damn Jermain you shouldve just taken a knee and you would've won". But if he had taken a knee right after the first knockdown there would still be about 20 seconds left, and I'm not sure he could even make it through 5-6 seconds, he was absolutely spent.

I was thinking after the fight that Taylor deserves massive respect the way he fought the fight and his comments about Froch straight after.

Taylor could have conned his way to a points win, as you say he could have taken a knee...............or even came out on his bike in the 11th & 12th rounds and done his best not to engage.......he was happy just to go the distance against Pavlik in their second fight.

So many fighters would have hugged and ran instead he came to fight Froch, maybe he didn't fight the smartest fight but Taylor went out on his sheild like a true warrior!

It's definitely supposed to be a ten count. Ten seconds. That's one of the reasons for a timekeeper being there.

Well said, he showed a lot of class. In fairness he usually does.

Could have slated the ref but gave him his props. I do hope he comes back and does something as super middle because he is a very talented fighter.

Is it bollocks. The ref is supposed to pick up the count from the timekeeper. However, what I will say is that in practice, once they've been started off they'll usually administer it themselves. But to say that it 'doesn't go on seconds' is simply wrong.

Taylor was utterly helpless and seperated from his senses. He was badly hurt. I don't think it's so simple that he could have taken a knee. half a minute or 3/4 of a minute is a long time when you're in deep shit. ask lucian bute, who seemed to be KO'd in the last few secs v andrade

im right though it should go on seconds but doesnt. ive had to do crappy experiments of counting up to 10,30 and 60 along with other students to see how accurate they are i took a min and 9 sec to do 60 seconds everyone counts different you might take 8 seconds to count to 10 or 13 seconds

but it should be easy when there is a bloke with a clock counting the seconds for you outside the ring, thats his job !!!!!

its simply not done that way - ideally it would be but by the time the ref has gone over to the time keeper and told how long the guys been down it could be over and the fighter has only stayed down to catch their breath waiting for the 8 count but then told its been 10 seconds its finished

No offence but have you ever actually been to a fight? The timekeeper stands up (if he needs to) and shows his hand(s) relating to how many seconds have gone. The ref doesn't need to 'go' anywhere - he simply looks over. Most counts start at two or three.

I always thought the timekeeper started the count as soon as the fighter touches the canvas and if the ref decides it is a knockdown he'll pick up the count.

Yes, unfortunately, the ref is only as accurate as the timekeeper.

Ideally, for world title fights, there should be a button which the timekeeper presses and a PA system which starts tolling the count. That way it would be impossible for the referee to misscue the count.

Taylor was too out of it to make a decision like that. Had he taken a knee in any case, the ref may well have stopped it.
