Liverpool Boxer Joe Ainscough has been forced to retire after being stabbed from the behind after splitting up a fight outside a bar a local newspaper has reported. The knife apparently pierced his bladder and rectum, he is recovering in hospital but his boxing career is now over. All the best to him on his road to recovery and I hope they catch the thug that did this.

I don't see it as rough at all really, it's a good place for a drink with alot of sound people although got to admit there are a couple of pubs known for trouble just like anywhere else. The pubs in Kensington and Anfield are rough as anything I'd say.

It said this stabbing took place at 4am and nowhere down county road is open at that time I don't think. :-?

Ainscough hopes for coaching role

Liverpool super-middleweight Joe Ainscough says he is hoping to move into coaching after being told by doctors he will never box again.

The 29-year-old former ABA champion suffered life-threatening injuries after being stabbed during an altercation in Walton 11 days ago.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I know I could train kids to box at amateur level, to a really good standard.

"I also know I could train professionals to a good standard."

Ainscough suffered a punctured bowel, bladder and rectum during the incident in Harlech Street, in the Walton area of Liverpool.

He readily admits his frustration at his promising professional career being brought to a premature end but says he is trying to take the positives from the incident.

"Every time the surgeon saw me in the days after it was 'here he is, the luckiest man in the world', so he was obviously meaning I shouldn't be here.

"The doctor said the fact I was in such good physical condition probably saved my life.

"I'm just happy to be alive and that my family aren't having to arrange a funeral," added the three-time ABA finalist.

Ainscough is still coming to terms with the fact he will never box again but he looks back on his career, particularly as an amateur, with immense pride.

"Wining the ABAs has always been one of the best days of my life. I reached another couple of ABA finals and I boxed some great people over the years, Olympic medallists and Commonwealth champions so I've been in the ring with all the best."

Ainscough who had chalked up a record of six wins and two losses, fighting for a central area title along the way in the professional ranks is adamant he will continue in the sport.

"I've learnt a lot along the way and I have a lot of knowledge to offer."

Now, please tell me why the purpetrator should not be done away with, taken out of the game for good!

This young lad probably had all the desire to progress within Boxing & now his dreams have been shattered, just like that!

There's simply no detterant in this country! It won't change until a detterant which makes people realise they cannot get away with things like this! Its a joke!
