LONDON (Reuters) - Joe Calzaghe said on Tuesday he would not come out of retirement to fight Carl Froch after the English super middleweight demanded an all-British world title showdown.
Froch, 31, was on the verge of defeat in the United States on Saturday but stormed back to stop Jermain Taylor 14 seconds from the end of the first defense of his WBC super middleweight title.
After his win Froch said he wanted 37-year-old Welshman Calzaghe to come out of retirement, saying he would "smash Calzaghe, if he gets his backside out of his armchair."
Calzaghe, who retired in February after an undefeated 46-fight career, said he would not be taunted into a ring return.
"Enough is enough with Carl Froch calling me out, I will tell you categorically that I would not fight the guy even if I did come out of retirement, which I am not going to do," he told Tuesday's South Wales Argus.
"I am sick to death of him drumming up free publicity for himself by using my name, no one who watched the fight with Taylor can believe he is in my class, he's my stalker, nothing more.
"For the first eight rounds against Taylor he was like a goalkeeper with no defense, he was being outclassed and outfought by a middleweight who has seen better days.
"To be honest it would be frightening what I could do to him if we fought, he doesn't seem to realize that holding your hands up and defending yourself is a pretty vital part of boxing.
"I have seen absolutely nothing whatsoever from him that makes me think I should fight him, I couldn't motivate myself knowing how easily I could beat him and possibly hurt him badly.
"I wouldn't fight him even if I did come back, what would be the point?"
If Calzaghe truly believed he could beat Carl so easily he would have shut him up long ago. Carls a dnagerous fighter in his prime, that's why Joe doesn't want any part of him.

Froch should just leave it, fvck Calzaghe and get on with his own career instead of wasting his time.

Carl's not wasting time on JC, he just wants the fight. Froch's career will continue to soar irrespective of Calzaghe

He needs to let it go now though... it's getting a bit irritating. He's on the verge of having a massive career himself, and all this bleating on about JC isn't going to do him any favours - Calzaghe isn't going to come out of retirement to face him.
For me, if he went and beat Bute and Kessler, he's have more meaningful wins than JC anyway.

Calzaghe has fought 1 worldcalss fighter in their prime and that was Kessler. Calzaghe vs Froch would a massive fight and highly competitive.

The only thing that would make Joe Calzaghe consider it is if people seriously started talking about Froch as having achieved more than him and ranking him higher in the all time British P4P. I don't think the thought of that would sit well with Calzaghe if he really believes he'd beat him from pillar to post.

well Joe's said it, he wouldn't even fight Froch if Calzaghe were still fighting.
Another major name that Joe failed to meet.
Add Froch to the list including Glen Johnson, Chad Dawson, Jermain Taylor, Kelly Pavlik and co!
Joe only wants the money for easy fights!

Froch should definatley leave it now, although i think it would be a whitewash to joe .
I want carl to get on and fight the best active fighters out there even if he loses he can say he fought the best active fighters

It does make you wonder though, who would he fight if he came back? Maybe he might feel Reid deserves his rematch in a couple of years.

Looking back at Froch/Magee and seeing all the success Magee was having against him, makes me believe it would be a shutout for Calzaghe who is more skilled, more busy and better chinned than Magee.

Froch is just pissing me off with the whole calzaghe busniess. calzaghe has retired and will stay retired. so froch should just fight other boxers instead of chasing a retired boxer.

Would Froch honestly move up to Ligh Heavy aswell

Carl is like 1 or 2 fights from smashing calzaghes so called legacy, i really do think he believes he needs calzaghe to cement himself in HOF. If he were to Finish kessler in a fight or 2 i would probably say he has done more than joe but i think there is more to this.

what the heck is out of order about calling someone out?
why was calzaghe never obsessed with anyone enough to force good fights?
joe has the big advantage in experience, IS ALL. joe is not a better fighter, he is a more manufactured fighter.
not long ago froch got stick for badgering taylor into a fight

If Froch really wants Calzaghe he could go after Hopkins/Kessler/Dawson to establish himself, but he probably loses to them all

Calzaghe doesn't want to put his 0 on the line - thats what defines him. I think Froch is a genuine KO threat to Calzaghe - he would be in there for 12 rounds throwing that big right hand - Calzaghe isnt immune from the KO - it could happen. The idea of fighting Calzaghe consumes Froch, he would be unbelievably fired up for it, sure he would probably get his ears boxed off but I would pick him for the KO

If Froch fights Calzaghe as stupidly as he fought Taylor.... I know he won but you cant plan to KO the bloke in the 12th can you, realistically.... then he is fcuked.

Nah, i think Froch should continue to call out Calzaghe at every given moment just to piss him off
He lords it as some 'walk on water' figure in boxing, when in reality he fought bums and little people for over a decade before finally going statside to fight two guys in the twilight of their careers with a combined age of 84.
Anyone that rematches a guy he beat in a round deserves ridicule.
There is a myth that he wiped the floor with loads of former champs, when in reality he stopped Richie Woodhall and Byron Mitchell.
I must note that he got floored by Mitchell as well as journeyman Kabary Salem and two old timers - and he was pretty buzzed each time. I've seen Joe's face mashed at the end of several fights, especially Hopkins and Bika.

I agree with everything Joe said. Froch's performance against Pascal and Taylor, indicated that he would be taken apart by Joe.

he couldnt have a better record cause there isnt2/3 people he could beat who are better than the last few people JC has beat
to have a better record he would have to STOP kessler & BHOP cause just beating the same two people joe has already beaten is less of an achievement than what JC did as they were 1)undefeated in Kessler 2) regeining LH champ
after beating them 2 he would then have to beat Dawson to go above him
i honestly cant see an argument in wat ive wrote, but im willing to listen & be convinced
